Hi@Thinker
Q35 Test 9
There is misalignment of options as answer should be B and explanation is also correct but answer option is given wrong as A
Also the 3rd statement clearly says that president appoints SAT members yet, the option is termed as correct.
Please clear this out. Thank you
It seems there may have been a typing error. In any case, Both statements 1 and 2 will be correct and 3rd will be incorrect.
@Thinker Q32 in today's paper-
Both Anugraha Narayan Sinha and J B Kripalani were teachers, not just the latter.Marks should be awarded for both options or the question should be cancelled.
All the mentioned options acted as a teacher sometimes down their life but the question is asking for the profession as a teacher and most appropriate option is J B Kriplani. Always tick the most appropriate answers that the thumb rule of UPSC.
Mahadayi river flows through 3 states Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka but in explanation sheet of test 7 question no 41 it is written only 2 Goa and Karnataka . Tribunal also shared water between these 3 states not 2.

Test 11 Q37
Dadabhai Naoroji
Statement 1 :-
He propounded the theory of Drain of wealth for the first time in his book Poverty and Un British rule in India .
( Why this statement is wrong???)
He propounded this theory for the first time in 1867. The book was published later I guess around 1901. So the statements stands incorrect. Because He did not propound the theory in his book for the first time.

W.r.t Q26 Test 13Was the poona pact signed between Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Ambedkar where Madan Malviya signed it on behalf of Gandhiji or Was it directly between Madan Mohan Malviya and Dr. B R Ambedkar?
The Poona Pact was in fact signed by Madan Mohan Malviya and B.R Ambedkar.Madan Mohan Malviyarepresented upper-caste Hindus and Ambedkar represented the Depressed classes. They both signed the Poona Pact. Gandhiji more or less acted as an intermediary between them.
Q4 test 13
How is Jinnah associated with khilafat?
Even according to Wikipedia the answer should be A and not C.
The question asks about ''associated''. Jinnah reluctantly agreed to the program and even attended a few Khilafat meetings. Hence I guess this counts as being associated with it.
@Disciple but then 2nd option is directed associated with khilafat movement.. then the answer should have been 1234.. which in not an option. And as per your explanation, I have found no particular source of Jinnah being associated with khilafat.
But the options were changed in the classroom itself before the beginning of the test. and Option C was changed to ''1,2, 3 AND 4''.
@ForumIAS-Academy In the updated schedule of SFG-2 few topics are repeated. Is that intentional?
They have updated it again. I just got an email. Recheck it.
Test 15, Question 5:
-Calcutta Madarsa was established by Warren Hastings
-Fort William college was also set up by Wellesley in 1800.

This is a previous year's UPSC Question. Fort William College was founded by Richard Wellesly and not by Arthur Wellesly.
SFG 2--Test-16- Q.39
Statement-2 should be correct.
•The Govt.passed the Sikh Gurudwara Act,1922 to pacify the Akalis.
Ans.must be (C)-Both 1& 2
Even I had read this. But when I researched, the Gurdwara Act of 1922 was officially called The Gurdwara and Shrines Act, 1922. This Act was later repealed by theGurdwara Act of 1925. So the statement stands wrong. Had the statement said, only an act( without mentioning the name) was passed in 1922 to pacify the Akalis, then the statement would have been correct.

sirQ 31Answer should be option A
What is wrong with the second statement? Karnataka has the highest overall rank and is the most innovativeMajorstate. I think it is correct. Correct me if I am wrong.
SFG-2, Test 17
Question 6 and 22 have been incorrectly explained. Please Correct them.
Q6- Lepakshi Paintings DO NOT follow a religious theme.
Q22- Indus script is Right to Left ( Boustrophedonic )
Q.6) Lepakshi paintings do follow a religious theme. The statement you are quoting is probably from the OLD edition of Nitin Singhania. But it has been updated in the subsequent version which says that Lepakshi paintings do follow a religious theme. Also, you can go through the images in the temple. they do follow a religious theme.
Q.22) As you said, the Indus Script is a Boustrophedonic script. Right to left in one line and left to right in another. So what is the confusion? The second statement is obviously wrong.
sirQ 31Answer should be option A
I think they picked the question from this link. Just check if you wish.
https://pib.gov.in/newsite/PrintRelease.aspx?relid=193852
Yes, I checked it. and it clearly says that Karnataka is the most innovative major state in India. What is wrong with it?
Few bloopers in today's discussion. See these corrections and point out if I'm wrong.
04:28-"Yellow and red light will scatter more and the sun will appear reddish".Wrong. During sunrise and sunset, it is the shorter wavelength that is scattered away as solar radiation being oblique traverses greater distance and what reaches us are the longer wavelength i.e Yellow, Orange, and Red.
10:03-"Without an ITCZ, strong wind shear will not be possible".Gives a sense that wind shear is necessary for cyclone formation which is clearly wrong.
23:10-"Nigeria is in Northern Africa".Wrong. Nigeria is in Western Africa. The same mistake was in the test 21 discussion video too!
No doubt Nigeria is in the west, but if you divide Africa into 2 rough halves, it is in the northern part. Maybe by that, he meant that Nigeria is north of the Equator.
Q 42. Pliz have a look.... I find Duars formation is common in foothills of both sikkim, darjeeling himalayas and of arunachal himalayas..... Correct me if m wrong... How preference is given to sikkim darjeeling himalayas?
The NCERT mentions about arunachal himalayas due to roughed topography the inter-valley transportation linkages are notional so, most interactions are through duar region along arunachal assam border. Pg no 14
We are supposed to find the best suitable option. If such a question comes in UPSC, we cannot fight with them. The answer will be Sikkim and Darjeeling Himalayas in this ase.
TEST 25 Q 13
Answer is A as per the explanation and otherwise but the correct answer given is C
The boundary line separating one drainage basin from the other is known as Water divide
There is nothing wrong with the second statement, The boundary line separating one drainage basin from the other is known as the watershed. A drainage divide, water divide, divide, ridgeline, watershed, water parting or height of land is elevated terrain that separates neighboring drainage basins. The answer will be c only. They must have been trying to elaborate on the second statement's explanation.

Hi,
For Ques no 21, Why are you sending and pasting a link from 2018? It is 2 years old. Update your information and Please cross-verify your information from authentic sources.
The Indian Standard IS 10500: 2012 for Drinking Water specification has specified the maximum acceptable limits for radioactive residues as alpha and beta emitters, values in excess of which render the water not suitable. These requirements take into account all radioactive elements including uranium. No individual radioactive elements have been specifically identified.

@Thinker today's test, question 26_- UP is largest producer of sugarcane as per recent data and not Maharashtra
I hope they change the answer accordingly.
Wind energy causes noise pollution Q 18
UP is the largest producer of sugarcane.
Q.18) Isn't wind energy pollution-free? How does wind energy cause noise pollution? The turbines may cause it. Just asking for my clarification. Also, this is a verbatim statement from the NCERT. You can check that when you read it.
And for UP, I hope they change the answer.
@Thinker Test 28 Question 18
Statement 2 : 2. Wind Energy is a pollution free energy resource.
Isn't windmills cause noise pollution?
Windmills may cause noise pollution, but how does your explanation help negating the statement that wind energy is pollution-free. Also, this is a statement from the NCERT.
Test 30, Ques 36, Statement 1: It refers to the physical position and functional role of a species within the community.
Instead of 'community', it should be 'ecological system' as a niche includes food habits, habitats, etc.
Hi,
This statement is verbatim from the NCERT. An ecological niche is a physical position and functional role of a species within the community. Also, he focus area of the term "Ecological Niche" is - the physical position and functional role of a species within the community of organisms it is a part of. The mere use of the word "community" in place of "ecosystem" (as is used in the standard definition) does not make the statement 1 incorrect.
T30 q24 transfer of energy is always unidirectional from one trophic level to another .
You are right in saying that in a food chain, energy flows from lower trophic levels to the higher trophic levels.
Thus, in a food chain, there is only one direction of energy flow. However, since a Food Chain is a simplistic model of reality.
In reality, an organism can be a part of multiple food chains. Hence in nature, energy flow is occurring not just along "one"
food chain, but along many different food chains. It is in this context, is the word "unidirectional" is used for explaining
energy flow in afood chain and the phrase "all directions" is used for explaining energy flow in a food web.
In Question 24, Statement 1 is -
"In the food web, energy transfer is possible in all directions whereasin the food chain it is unidirectional."
We need to read the whole statement together to understand that the words "all directions" does notimply " energy flow in a single food chain".
It isnotimplying that energy flow can occur from higher trophic levels to lower trophic levels.
Rather, it is used to imply the existence of energy flow along different food chains a single organism is a part of.
SFG batch 2 test 30
Question number 17
Ephernerals are free from any xerophilous adaptations. Also, the species which survive dry season are called rain perennials ajd not Ephernerals.
That is what is written in the explanation. The ephemerals are delicate species without any special (xerophilous) adaptations.Xerophile or xerophilous meansdry-loving or drought-loving organisms, such as plants being characterized by various ecologic adaptations to desert life, such as excessively long roots, fleshy stems (cacti) or thin leaves (acacia). But ephemeralsappear soon after the rains, grow and bloom with flowers and fruits for a very short period. They die out as soon as the soil moisture dries up.
In this quen ans given at various online platform is d.. I have confusion in gypsum statement.. I think this is correct but ans given is c....@Disciple @Thinker
Which of the following practices can help in water conservation in agriculture? 1. Reduced or zero tillage of the land
2. Applying gypsum before irrigating the field
3. Allowing crop residue to remain in the field
Select the correct answer using the code given below.
Rather than searching previous year questions in various platforms, please follow the official website. This is a 2017 question, for a person preparing UPSC, all the previous year papers should be downloaded or printed. Also the answer provided in the official key is C.
see this.It incorporates both grazing as well as detritus food chains as its sub-components. Doesn't it seem to be multidirectional? Moreover it was to be referenced w.r.t comparative unidirectional aspects of food chain as a concept.
Sir in this article , no where it is mentioned that foodweb has multidirection energy flow.
Energy (as a concept ) flows in the direction from lower trophic level to higher trophic level ( in both detritus and grazing food chain)
food web is to depict interconnection of different food chainsand not “multidirection” energy flow . Even in food web energy flow from lower to higher trophic level only
The multi-directional used in the question statement was not pertaining to trophic levels according to me. It was in the other context. "In the food web, energy transfer is possible in all directions whereas in the food chain it is unidirectional." We need to read the whole statement together to understand that the words "all directions" does not imply " energy flow in a single food chain". It is not implying that energy flow can occur from higher trophic levels to lower trophic levels. Rather, it is used to imply the existence of energy flow along different food chains a single organism is a part of.
Mosquitoes sucking human blood is an example of parasitism.
How this is wrong. In explanation it talks about female mosquito but here its not clear.
Pls explain@Disciple
Mosquitoes are not a parasite. They belong to phylum Arthropoda hence they are insects. Parasites are living creatures that need a host for its life cycle. Parasites solely depend upon the host for their survival and live in the body or on the body of the host. Mosquitoes do not drink blood because of their nutritional requirements. If they did so, then male mosquitoes cannot. But only the female ones drinks the blood. Nutritional requirements of mosquito are fulfilled by plant sources. They are not actually parasites because female mosquitoes only need blood to lay eggs. Both the males and females feed on nectar and plant juices and do not rely on blood as a food source.
@Disciple Sir, how should we go about chapter 11 of Shankar on various animals in different schedules of WPA,1972 ... What would we the efficient way to go through this list or should we try to go in it.s entirety ?
Anyone else who has any suggestion regarding this..
For the schedules, you should know what is the exact purpose of the schedule. For example, animals in Schedule I are the most protected animals, so by that logic you can eliminate the options. Plus Schedule VI only contains a list of 6 plants, you need to remember that. I personally do not think it is possible for me to learn all the animals in the schedules, it will be a waste of time.
@Thinker Test 32 Q33. Snow Leopards are not endemic to India.
Yes, you are right. They will probably change the answer because Snow leopards are found in 12 countries—including China, Bhutan, Nepal, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Russia, and Mongolia.
Test 32, Ques 33: Statement 1 says endemic to those places. Doesn't it mean that it is not found anywhere else which is not the case as it is found in central Asia as well.
Or is the statement talking only about regions in India where its population is found. Can you please clarify?
They will probably change the answer. Even I marked it B. Because they are found in other countries as well.
Test 33, Ques 4: as per upsc answer key, statement 3 is wrong
I just checked that the question was from 2012 UPSC Prelims. But the recent studies and journals, particularly from 2013, support the statement. Q.3) They probably will consider it while making the rank list.
Test 34 Question 21:
Consider the following statements regarding the Money Bill:
1. The Speaker of the Lok Sabha is authorised to decide whether the Bill is a Money Bill or not.
2. It has to be introduced in the Lok Sabha as per Article 110 of the Constitution.
What does the second statement mean in this context?
A-110 does not contain the procedure to introduce the money bill but what constitutes a money bill. It does create a doubt whether it talks aboutArticle 109 i.e: special procedures to introduce a money bill
It probably means that it has to be introduced in the Lok Sabha as per the provisions of Article 110. I understand what you are saying, but the statement indicates otherwise. As in, A Money Bill can be introduced in the Lok Sabha if it contains the provisions of the imposition, abolition, remission, alteration or regulation of any tax;( this second part is as per article 110).

RBI issues and exchanges or destroys currency and coins not fit for circulation
Does RBI have the power to issue coins?
Same doubt
As perthe Coinage Act, 1906,the Government of India has the sole right to mint coins and the responsibilityfor coinage vests with the Government. But, The coins areissued for circulation only through the Reserve Bankin terms of the RBI Act.
Functions of RBI
The issuer of the currency:
Issues and exchanges or destroys currency and coins not fit for circulation.
Objective: to give the public an adequate quantity of supplies of currency notes and coins and in good quality.
These statements are taken verbatim from the RBI Website.
Test 37, Ques 49: Statement 1 says RBI but wasn't BPSS created for the purpose of regulation and supervision of payment systems.
Can someone confirm this?
The PSS Act, 2007 provides for the regulation and supervision of payment systems in India and designates the Reserve Bank of India (Reserve Bank) as the authority for that purpose and all related matters. The Reserve Bank is authorized under the Act to constitute a Committee of its Central Board known as the Board for Regulation and Supervision of Payment and Settlement Systems (BPSS), to exercise its powers and perform its functions and discharge its duties under this statute. The Act also provides the legal basis for “netting” and “settlement finality”. This is of great importance, as in India, other than the Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) system all other payment systems function on a net settlement basis.

By that logic, labour market regulationis not a component in EoDB report. There are only 10 components, I don't know from where did Forum come up with 11 factors. They are giving same explanation since past 2 tests, which is wrong. I am attaching official ranking screen-shot.
Also, question is askingwhat factors are taken into accountnot what aresub-indices (which are components of EoDB)
Bhai Read the question! It asks about the Ease of Doing Business Report not index. They are different.
Regulations affecting11 areas of the life of a business are covered:
starting a business, dealing with construction permits, getting electricity, registering property, getting credit, protecting minority investors, paying taxes, trading across borders, enforcing contracts, resolving insolvency andlabor market regulation. The labor market regulation data are not included in this year’s ranking on the ease of doing business.

w.r.t Test 38 Q 4 When Crowding out effect kicks in there is less money in the economy and hence the money lending institutions increase the lending rate resulting in higher interest payment by the private sector due to which there expenditure increases and thus their investment decreases.
The correct answer is option c which means there expenditure decreases.
So how is there expenditure reducing?
Crowding out effect - The crowding-out effect is an economic theory arguing that rising public sector spending drives down or even eliminates private sector spending.
You are confusing the way government functions from the way private sector functions. The government can borrow money for expenditure as well as investment, on the other hand the private sector can undertake borrowing only for further investment.
A private entity can not be sustainable if its income is not higher than its expenditure. Thus when the private sector borrows money, it uses that money to expand its production capacity to generate further income only.
However, since crowding out effect leads to an increase in interest rates, the private sector will find it more difficult to undertake further investment decisions. Thus they would not indulge in the expansion of their production capacity, thereby reducing the private sector's expenditure which would have taken place had the interest rates been lower.

Question number 24. Statement 1.
Bimbisara was not a disciple of Buddhism. "Bimbisara was contemporary to both Mahavira and gautam buddha. Both religions claim him as their supporters and devotee."
Quoted from TN board book
How did you come to this conclusion from one single statement? This is history, you need to refer to other sources. One single Google search or if you had read other NCERTs then it would have been easier for you.
King Bimbisara met the Buddha for the first time prior to the Buddha's enlightenment and later became an important disciple. Kings like Prasanajit of Kosala, Bimbisar, and Ajatshatru of Magadh accepted his Doctrines and became his disciples.
Test 45, Q47
Could someone elaborate on the statement that 'the founders of Buddhism and Jainism came from Republican states.' ?
The statement means that both Mahavira and Buddha belonged to the Mahajanpads/Jandapadas that were a republic. To break it down for you, Mahavira was from Vaishali ( Vajji/Vrajji Mahajanpada) and Buddha was born in a Shakya Kshatriya family in Lumbini near Kapilavastu. Shakyas of Kapilavastu was a tribal Republican territory.

Please get your facts right. You have got misinformations.
I have rechecked for the above facts from three soruces- R. S. Sharma, Old Ncert(Makhan Lal) and S. K. Pandey.
All of them have unanimously metioned Neolithic period as domestication of animals. And please look for the time scales too.
Same is true for the other questions too.
only contentious fact is the place of confluence of Sone and Ganga. You may simply check it on google earth. Though Son River used flow south of Patna in the past but now river Punpun flows there in it's minor paleo-channels.
I am quoting the NEW NCERT here,
Domestication was a gradual process that took place in many parts of the world. It began about 12,000 years ago.Virtually all the plant and animal products that we use as food today is a result of domestication. Some of the earliest plants to be domesticated were wheat and barley. The earliest domesticated animals include sheep and goats. The period when we find environmental changes, beginning about 12,000 years ago till about 10,000 years ago is called the Mesolithic (middle stone).

It was his 16th expedition in which he plundered Somnath Temple (not the last). The last was against the jats.
The first two statements are quite obvious. I guess they are from the ''About us'' section of the organizations. As far as the third statement is concerned, it is a topic in news since the last few months. I found a link of a recent article

"Parliament may by law provide for the abolition of the Legislative Council of a Stateeven withoutthe consent of the State Legislative Assembly."
How is this correct?
Article 169: Parliament may by law provide for the abolition...,IF Legislative Assembly passes a resolution to that effect ...
Hi,
This was clarified in the class by Sir. According to Article 169, Parliament may by law provide for the abolition of the Legislative Council of a State having such a Council or for the creation of such a Council in a State having no such Council, if the Legislative Assembly of the State passes a resolution to that effect by a majority of the total membership of the Assembly and by a majority of not less than two-thirds of the members of the Assembly present and voting.
Parliament cannot do this on its own.
