What are your Post Mains Plans like? What do you plan to do till December?

So now that the Mains is over, how do you plan to spend ( or waste or utilise ) your days? Is it travel, gym studies, or plain browsing until the results come?

Thanks sir for this initiative.

I have decided to have -

1. Revise and improve upon my optional-Geography through test series.

2. Do DAF analysis and also prepare Current Issues.

Although currently doing things with less vigour but striving to improve momentum and efficiency.

Thanks Sir.

That sounds great! Do read the newspaper meanwhile. And may be RSTV debates. That should help!

Hello Neyawn Sir, I have heard a lot about telegram group by forumIas for CSE interview preparation. Could you please provide the link here?

Read Animal Farm, and currently halfway through Argumentative Indian. The spark and sense of independence post-mains has slowly waned away. Travelled rural Bihar(thanks to BPSC), met old friends, used social media like anything.

Now back on my study table, plan to improve on optional first, then move to GS. Still unsure on how to go with GS3. Please help on this.

Make a list of topics. Read content from Businessline and Livmint on it and make notes. That is all. Can you share a list of topics based on GS Paper 3?

Could not correlate the study material and questions asked in GS-3. For static, read standard notes(env, eco). But everytime, halfway through felt like all this reading is futile.

For CA, nothing came much handy. Made notes for Food pro, Land reforms, subsidies(helped a bit).

Even GS3 of ForumIAS sim test(which most found easy) blew my mind away.

I think I need to read more extensively. Starting with NITI doc along with BusinessLine & Livemint.

You just begin with Niti aayog and economic survey(s). You will know the challenges before Indian Economy.

Also read it not from an aspirants perspective but from leisure reading. Makes a lot of difference.

Bringing this old thread up again! So what are your post Mains plans like?

@Neyawn state psc mains. Hoping it will cover the state part for interview (if at all I qualify)! Also the newspapers!

If I cover state part now, will I be able to do the remaining part after results (assuming I clear mains)?

I am thinking to skip this year's attempt and work on my answer writing structure and short notes of my optional ....@Neyawn  can u please suggest if this is a wise choice as there is too little time to prepare for mains for this attempt?

I took a break in 2019 for same reason. It can help if you keep moving in the right direction with resolve. Productivity goes down a little but come next Mains you’ll have solid notes and would have covered a lot of new ground.

I am planning to switch my optional.

Anthropology earlier. Got 263(2017), 281(2018), 217(2019).

My last attempt totally went down the drain due to anthro despite having decent gs+ essay scores. I didn't expect this low score in anthro and worst part is I got to know it 1 year post mains. This year also p1 is like too tough. I am feeling outlook for anthropology very gloomy, due to fact that every second person is taking it , upsc is hell bent on butchering it.

Since notification is around, and have very less time. Is it good decision to give up optional. In case, is there any optional that can be covered in this gap till next attempt. I'm thinking PSIR or Sociology???

I shared this in a family group on whatsapp and there was an uproar about why should one be restless about what one wants to achieve.

I think that at least on one”s 20s and 30s one should be restless. Nahin to aage kaise badhenge?

Have you spoken to someone like mitochondria on the old forum.

I can bet it was he who popularised the optional before the guy who picked it up from him next year got Rank 1 and made it famous.

As of now Anthro stays a popular choice. Have you met Vaid Sir by any chance ?

@Neyawn Yes.. Long back in 2017, when I was giving my first mains.
It's a popular choice now thanks to good results and inflated scores of 2017s and 2018s.

Anthropology is a good optional. And I spent good number of attempts on it. This year's result is not out yet.. But as you know..  By the time results are out, we don't have much scope to make changes. So I need to take a call now.

Yes.. I need to find a senior like mitochondria, who can shed some light

@Neyawn completely agree with the point but I think there comes a point in one's life when one has to and one should take some break from daily chores else there is lack of new perspective especially in preparation, in thinking and in outlook towards life. When one suffers from the inner dissonance that one has wasted enough days like 10-20 days in preparation, the time he/she restarts it, he will then never stop.

But yes i will cutdown my next 10 days break into 5 days and then get restless for this exam.

I've completely withdrawn from all things UPSC for a while. No question paper discussions or cut off speculation, haven't replied to a number of DMs on Forum also (not on purpose, but simply because I log on to the forum for such a short time)! I've been playing some music on my Ukulele. Learning how to play Hedwig's theme as of now! Other than that, I watched TV shows, went cycling with the love, went for a small trip to the place where my college is, reminisced with friends, you get the gist. I've been reading the newspaper because I enjoy doing that with coffee in the morning! Been spending time on the Kindle as well, since I enjoy reading non-fiction. Before mains, I was thinking about the exam so intensely. I plan on withdrawing to the same extent for a full reset, and to that end, will be visiting a few friends in Bangalore during the next week. Once I come back, I plan on slowly working on interview and optional prep for say 6 hours a day or so till the results come.

An idle mind is a devil's workshop, and I gotta say, the devil's holding a disco in there. The serial chiller in me hath long been suppressed. He tells me that this is the window he gets to roam free with no guilt whatsoever. Therefore, for now, he runs around in my mind, in all his naked glory, screaming "FREEEEDOOOMMM!" Would be too cruel to deprive him of it. :P
