CSE 2021: Plan / Strategy / Daily Routine

Hello 2021 aspirants. I thought it would be nice if we can share what we are doing and intend to do with one another here.

This could be a thread for discussing everything prep for 2021.

No one method fits all but to see the plans and progress made by fellow aspirants might help with the finer details of preparation and also keep one on track.

Sorry for not being regular here. Last 10 days were really hectic. Construction work is going on at my place so we had to shift to another house. And I can't even explain in words what sort of scrap a joint family could accumulate over the years. xD
Shifting is such a task!
About the targets,
Last week's targets were-
1. Complete ethics ---->9 videos are still left.
2. Complete society---->half done
3. Maths- Complete 3D--->shree ganesh hi hua tha iska
4. CA classes ---->2 pending hai :'(
Therefore the target for this week will be to complete the pending tasks.

Shhhh it’s not scrap, it’s useful resources for hypothetical scenarios XD

Days have  been like a Schrödinger cat these days, anyway was able to focus after long time.

Failing in mains 2020 in first attempt(joined upsc preparation at age 25)made me questions my choices, but I guess it's ok,the kind of person I have become in last 2 years is best version of me.

Today's work.

The hindu+insights daily .

Test 1 and test 2 environment pt revision

Vision monthly started April (10 pages )

Socio politics and society chapter trying to study but lil distracted.

Walking these days for me is like poetry a temporary solace and the permanent remedy.

Hello gentle friends! I'm very afraid that I will not study for prelims properly so I need all the strength I can get!

I have cleaned my room just to get into a new frame of mind 😂 I hope I can wake up early tomorrow.

July First, Twenty Twenty One

1. Laxmikanth 1/4

2. Polity PT365 1/2

3. Jan 1/2

4. Hobby questions

5. Book

6.  IR news

Good luck everyone :) karke dikhayenge, haan bhai haan.

Done dana dunn :) managed to exceed targets a bit, will try to keep it up so I can get half a day free next week.

I thought Laxmikanth would feel like a stranger after all these months but it welcomed me with open arms. All those irrational highlightings and underlines seem so beautiful to me now :’D

I’m also going to try seriously to write from tomorrow!

@AzadHindFauz the admiration is wholly entirely mutual :) you make a very strong character too :D somehow so wise and still with an unmistakable streak of fun!

@nerdfighter broo i have wanted to be the “cool kid” since I was a kid. Thank you :p

Forum is feeling so nice and warm today! Feels like there’s a scent of fresh baked goods here. Good night you sweet lovely people :)

Beginning again and this time I am here to stay (God, please don't let my filp floppy self go back on this again).

Target To-dos for Day (1/100): 1st of July 2021

  • Indian Polity Topic 1 (Deep Work) (4 Hours) (Highlight)
  • Environment Booklets (1 Hours)
  • Jainism Lecture (2 Hours)
  • Anki Review (1.5 Hours)
  • Indian Express (1 Hour)

--

Go for a walk & listen to audiobook; Fast, Keep your blockers intact all day; Drink Enough Water

All targets done except Express, which I will try to read now. Also Polity was supposed to be 4 Hours of Deep work but half of the work was quite shallow & the mind was scattered. Anki reviews done for 1 Hour 10 minutes & the mind cannot take any more of it.

--

Walked, listened to an audiobook (Newport's Deep Work) (1.5 Hours), Fasted for 22 Hours, Water intake could have been better especially in the second half of the day. Also I was quite happy all day. Not a single low moment.

Also today's Chocolate Coffee was amazingly delicious. I ended up drinking two cups of it.

--

After the morning walk, wrote down some stuff aboutDeep Work vs Pomodoro technique. Give it a read. You may find some useful insights.

Wow, loved this piece of writing. I can relate so much to the second paragraph. In 11th and 12th standard, I would finish 2-3 books in a week. Now it's hard to read even one in 2-3 months. Switched to audiobooks for the sheer reason that I couldn't do "deep reading" Of the books. Felt so frustrating.

It's getting  better now though. Earlier I would not have any answer for why this is happening. But, now I know.. And I can analyse when I am venturing into the "deep masti" Zone.

Need to keep this stupid phone away 😂😂.

  2. Mock test of Optional
  3. One video of Ethics (need to finish this ASAP)
  4. May CA Finsh GS-2 portion

Goodnight friends :)

Today was not so productive had a birthday of cousin sister ( small one ) so evening go there try to do better from Tommorow

Broader targets

√economy lectures

√ world history

√ post independence

These are broader targets which means may take maybe 2 weeks or something but I will try to do as soon as possible.

Edit: try to get up early so to get max output during the first half of the day.

Done with targets for the day. Cheated a little by replacing longer units that I had planned on doing with shorter ones. But that's a problem for future me to deal with. Very satisfying day. Have deleted Reddit from my phone (And it's going to stay that way) so that's a win.

So I did study in the first half but then something happened with my laptop giving me the perfect escape. Didn't do anything hardcore UPSC in the second half, instead I read up random IR articles!

Targets:

  • Real Analysis PYQs (3/4)
  • Newspaper
  • Society Notes/Vision Monthly

I'm confused about when exactly to start prelims preparation. That will decide what I choose between Society and CA tomorrow. How are you all planning the shift to prelims prep?

The curse continues. Laptop is still giving me problems so I'm going to have that checked out soon. Studying on a tablet doesn't feel the same at all.

Same targets as today for tomorrow.

Enough procrastination now! Going to restart meditation and see if that changes things.

I know you said that writing the mock made it worse, but in case the pain just pops up unreasonably early on while writing or otherwise seems unprompted by any activity you did earlier in the day, get yourself checked for vitamin D and calcium deficiencies

I would suggest instead of solely shifting to prelims all together let's change the disposition towards prelims like writing tests and all while continuing for optional and other mains topics

@nerdfighter Great write up bhai. Especially loved the bit of how books taught you to think linearly, logically and meditatively. I've never thought of it this way.
May you blossom on the paths of Deep Work
PS - Deep Work has to be the book that I've readthe most number of times. So glad to find a fellow Cal Newport fan here

This seems like a good idea as well. I'm probably going to start with CA magazines just to get back in touch with CA and then shift to doing 3-4 tests a week from 10th onwards!

Thanks :)

I did some portions of Multiple Integrals (about 20 questions) + 1 ethics case study. The total is small in terms of hours spent. Yet I'm proud of myself because in spite of all the other work I have, I could squeeze out time to study effectively.

By July 4th I'll be back in Delhi. All my current interruptions will hopefully end and I'll be able to spend solid hours studying. So looking forward to then.

@nerdfighter Just went through the article. Appreciate the effort. Both James Clear and Cal Newport make things I know are wrong explicit. That article attached about the types of breaks to take, that is the difference between me studying well a few months back and struggling to now. Do keep writing and sharing, looking forward!
