CSE 2021: Plan / Strategy / Daily Routine

Hello 2021 aspirants. I thought it would be nice if we can share what we are doing and intend to do with one another here.

This could be a thread for discussing everything prep for 2021.

No one method fits all but to see the plans and progress made by fellow aspirants might help with the finer details of preparation and also keep one on track.

@dusrath123 is it due to covid or something else? if it's due to covid, it seems like a bit of an overreaction at this stage

@oopsie not due to covid is what I heard. They decided to give an extra attempt to last year guys or something like that.

Guys, don't waste your precious time hoping exam gets postponed. See the election commission news on UP polls. Centre told poll bound States to ramp up vaccinations etc and all parties have told the commission they want it to be held on time.

@oopsie The official notification on mpsc.gov.in reads:

In the backdrop of the Corona virus and due to the non-publication of advertisements for direct service in the government, some candidates have missed the opportunity to appear for the examination since they have crossed the age limit. In view of the implementation of the decision taken by the government, the commission is postponing the State Services Pre examination scheduled on January 02, 2022. The revised examination date will be announced shortly.

So it's sort of both... Rest omicron is no joke either... Maroge nahi but bed rest usmein B chaiye... Lucky will be guys who get it before exam rather than during... 🤣😅... Baki empathy, compassion gs4 mein hi acha lagta... Nahi upsc mein nah service mein...

It's actually a tricky situation, exams will go on for 9 days.. People will have to travel to and stay in different cities. UPSC will have to take  decision very soon, no idea whether they are even considering postponement or no. So we should just focus on studying right now.. agar postpone hua toh pata chal hi jayega.

More so for someone planning to go to delhi with parents or having comorbidities. Officially it's 1300 for delhi, unofficially it must be 3-4 times that

@D503 Exactly, and what if anyone gets the virus during these 10 days, firstly it will hamper his/her performance in the exam..secondly he/she will spread the virus to other students as well and lastly and most importantly he will end up infecting his parents/family..kind of a super spreader.

There is a slim Chance of postponement simply because,

1. The infection isn't severe enough in majority.

2. Low hospitalisation rate.

3. In other countries cases have begun to come down without much damage eg south Africa

Now the point isn't if it's as bad as second wave, as pointed out what if a student sitting next to me gets it, then what happens of me? It's like being left to a chance in a hope that nothing serious would happen. Personally I wouldn't have been edgy if it were prelims because exam deke kitna beemar rehna hai reh lenge lekin kal parso next week papers hai, what if?? That the issue

And above all there are too many exams scheduled for Feb end and  March like board exams and all, so if it is postponed then we will suffer even more than now with no certainty that things are better. It would be good if UPSc atleast gives a one line ticker on site that it's going on as usual so as to put to rest all the speculations.

It would be highly unwise of UPSC if it still goes ahead with the exam(majority of mains centres are showing 40% growth on daily basis). Please don't assume the illness to be mild, there is no guarantee that Omicron won't mutate further while ripping through population of 1.4 billion(same happened with delta and we came to know about it after all damage was already done.) Even Covid in its initial days was being dismissed as flu like illness.

Though there is no guarantee of postponement, this exam can surely wait for few weeks till we come out of exponential phase. Still if UPSC doesn't relent, it would be disappointing to see that how constitutional body is putting 8-9k students' (and their families) health at risk when it is completely avoidable.

Note:- You may label me as over anxious about this. But having seen deaths of even young adults as covid warrior, I am bound to value health more than any exam. After all 'prevention is always better than cure."

@Maddy39 completely agree... I am a Covid warrior too who saw deaths very closely early this year.. a friend lost his mother grand dad and grand mother within a week... His dad barely survived... The whole family was finished.... Plus, say a person like me i have to travel to a city 300 km away from home .. so will have to stay there for 2 weeks in a hotel .. what if one catches Covid like that... Will one be allowed to take exam if positive?

@leftfaithinmyself i feel the UPSC should themselves decide to take a call on this. Not writing any mail.

@Levi Lets send MASS MAILS to UPSC requesting them to consider postponement of exam

Here are the arguments supporting the need to postpone the exam:

1. Mains is not a single day exam but a 9 day one and so increases the chances of infection, when students stay at exam center cities in hotels.

2. Loss of opportunity if a candidate gets infected on any day in the exam center.

3. There are travel restrictions imposed at state and even at district level
For example:
Dehradun Administration had made it mandatory to show negative report to enter the diatrict. This will not allow candidates having corona to appear for exam.

4. What if a person is trapped in a containment zone.

5. What if a candidate gets infected with corona.

Having equal opportunitity to join civil services is a right guaranteed under constitution. Equal opportunity requires equal and fair access to examination.
Please do note that there is a difference in other disease outbreaks like dengue, malaria. In such cases there is no restriction on movement. Also chances of student getting caught to such diseases in the exam centers is also negligible.

We request you to consider postponement of UPSC mains exam.

Ques. Corona cases are again on the rise in metropolitan cities. Comment in the context of postponement of CSE Mains Examination.

Ans.

After the devastating second wave of corona which has claimed more than 3 lakh lives across the country, a new variant of the virus by the name of Omicron has emerged and cases pertaining to same is on the rise with a jump of around 50% in a single day in Delhi and Mumbai

Need of Postponement of Exam

1. Being a 9 day exam, chances of getting infected for aspirants appearing at centre like Delhi is quite high

2. Any infected aspirant can infect his/her family members thereby setting a chain reaction

3. Chances of clearing the exam will further dampen in case of getting infected as aspirants will experience acute physiological as well as Psychological fatigue

Pros of Postponement

1. Each and every aspirant will get equal opportunity to write the exam in a much more conducive environment rather than in an anxious one

2. Countless more lives can be save

3. Credibility of UPSC as a constitutional institution will get further strengthened

4. Some aspirants will get more time to make their preparation even more tight

Cons of Postponement

1. No matter how much more time is provided, aspirant will always feel that had there been 1 week more I would have surely got through

2. Logistic nightmare for UPSC as whole calendar will get disturbed

3. UPSC has already conducted 2020 prelims amidst 70000 daily cases

4. With so much of desperation and unemployment, not a single candidate will leave the exam if UPSC decides to go with it

5. With ECI hinting on going with the election, postponing an exam makes no sense at all

6. If UP can conduct Panchayat elections which was the primary reason for spike in corona numbers in the state during second wave and still get away with it then its simply a cakewalk for UPSC

Way Forward

1. Increase the number of centres

2. UPSC must do a proper vulnerability mapping and discuss with administration of severely effected cities before taking a call

However, my personal take; if the number of cases are going to go above 40k a day before the 7th then I'll not take the exam as me being a single child I cannot die because of this and leave my parents alone or worse infect them. Having lost very dear ones to corona while they were conducting panchayat elections (bought my father back from the death's den), I have minimal faith in the power hungry state therefore I'll take my own call. (THIS IS WHERE I HAVE DEVIATED FROM THE DEMAND OF THE QUESTION AND honestly, it is bound to happen to those who have lost someone to CORONA)
