My thoughts on GS prelims 2021

Polity is being intertwined with Post independence (Bharat ratna & 3 assembly seat Qn) just the way Ecology+ Geography got intertwined over the last couple of years

But imo  Concept based geography Questions took a back seat in 2021 and sports filled that vacuum

As usual S&T was more of application oriented but possible to eliminate if well versed with basic science & current affairs

Neither Geography nor Sports is my strong area ,so net zero gain

Yes, this seems true.

@Shinchen_1 you're right because UPSC is based on hard work along with some luck, so this pre exam is not a scale of testing your talent it is like real life situations as in real life every time is not correct or right, sometimes it becomes out of control. So luck plays a role. However I am firmly believe that it is very very easy exam as we have not to get complete 100 questions right. If we seriously study then there is no chance to fail. As one of my friend also from Btech background is confident in gs paper but he is afraid of CSAT . I surprised how a BTech can afraid of CSAT. It means he seriously didn't take up CSAT exam. My bro alternate job or profession is mandatory due to uncertainty these days. My advice is you should took state exams seriously then you may opt UPSC. In india you also know that if yor are talented but fail in getting any profession, you will not be asked even by your close relatives. So one permanent job or profession is mandatory. However I again emphasises that if I or you really work hard with smartness then UPSC is very easy considering the qualifying percentage is very very low. I took many examinations and got success also but I am in government job since the age of 19 and enjoying each and every aspect of life. Whether happiness or sorrow. So take decision considering your future. It is also well known the working professional also clear the civil services exam with top ranks. My best wishes to your journey ahead.

Also, a general question, was CSAT tougher this year? I am not able to judge because last year I was sleep-deprived, panicked after not being able to solve even one on the 1st page, even though I comfortably cleared it. This time things were stable could do around 49. Also if it was tougher can it impact cut off much?

@Gentleman Central water commission seems like a good source.. whether upsc considers it or not, we ( who have kept sutlej as answer ) can atleast try raising the issue ( confusion on which river joins indus directly ) to upsc..

Everyone discussing whether it is chenab Or satluj..

Meanwhile I am the only one who marked jhelum 😂😂😂

So no discrepancy there. I was obviously wrong 😅

@Fulcrum Makes sense now, I assumed the mechanics of the siti to be completely wrong during the exam!

I was confused b/w satluj and jhelum, marked jhelum but now seeing people building consensus over chenab :/

Is anyone planning to start with mains after a day or two considering only 80 days are left?

Sutlej receives the collective drainage of Ravi, Chenab and Jhelum and joins the Indus

Ideally Panjnand river (a confluence of Sutlej and Chenab rivers) is the only thing that joins Indus directly near mithankot

Having said that , I'm team Sutlej

@Fulcrum Regarding pressure cooker question.. as you have mentioned, i too agree on the weight of dead weight ( vent/ siti ) matters, but i don't understand how the weight of lid matters..

I have seen some images and no where it is given vent/siti as "lid".. so i am assuming upsc is asking about "lid"and not the vent in the question..  can you ( or anyone ) please explain if you know how weight of lid matters?

Thanks..

Weight of lid won't matter. It's absurd.

@AureliusM To my current understanding levels.. even i feel weight of lid doesn't matter.. but temperature also doesn't matter to an extent.. so that's why i got doubt whether examiner meant "lid" as "vent" in the question.. also to know if in anyway weight of lid matters..

I have checked many articles.. everywhere it is written that it is the weight of vent that matters..

Even i kept answer taking weight of lid doesn't matter..

@kasanasandy007133 Thank you for your kind words and suggestions. Initially, I thought not to apply for any other public service (govt.) jobs, as consecutive failures have impacted my confidence to the very core. But after consulting with my well wishers, I decided to apply for other central govt. exams. And I'm also considering for other alternatives not restricted to govt sector.
Indeed after full fledged preparation of 2 or 3 years, one should move into other career alternative and try to get a job and simultaneously prepare for it , if one wants.

Why does UPSC not release answer key few days after the exam? Isnt it hypocrisy on their part, that they ask questions regarding transparency and accountability yet refrain from follwing that.
