[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

Because of the corona virus issue? If it does not happen then worst affected will be people whose interview is stuck, around 600-700 such people I think are yet to appear for their interview.

@neyawn sir and others, what is your take?

This is the official Thread for discussion of Prelims Postponement, Please do not create new threads for the same.

@Ahem_Brahmasmi He is a former Jt Secretary for UPSC. I don't think he ever claimed to be a chairman. Just a common misconception among the aspirants with the surname.

Which month seems to be the most probable one for conducting Pre? Any random or informed guess?
July,August,September or never?

From the Notice released by UPSC, it looks they're as eager as ever to conduct prelims. They mentioned the easing if restrictions as a positive development, which indicates that they are just waiting for restrictions to ease down so that the exam can be conducted. Even if they pandemic isn't controlled by then, they'll still go through with the exam by taking stricter precautionary measures. Boards Neet JEE may not be a deciding factor for this, I guess. So July Maan ke chalo, baaki 2 weeks main hopefully revised dates pata chal jayegi

It would be extremely difficult for UPSC to conduct the examination having candidates to the tune of 5 lakh (who actually appears) in July or August.

If they conduct, the invigilators, candidates, their relatives and the community members, all are at risk of contracting COVID-19.

If a candidate who appears in Prelims, unfortunately gets infected and then treated and quarantined for 28+ days during the infection period, is grossly unjust to him or her with regard to the intervening preparation for Mains. The spirit of competitive exam would be compromised.

It's not one day event exam (IIT JEE, NEET etc) in which after exam, even if you get infected, will not be troubling the student much. Exams are already over for them, but this is not the case for CSE Aspirants.

This is highly likely in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and other districts seeing a spike in number of cases.

Unless these cities witness substantial decline in number of active cases and in rate of per day cases, conducting a pan-India exam doesn't seem to be a prudent and practical idea.

If still it is conducted in July or August (covid cases to peak in these months as per epidemiologists), risks of infection will increase manifold. As candidates will be required to travel by Train, Bus, Auto, e-rickshaw etc. They are the perfect place for increasing the spread of infection, given the type of seating they do. Social Distancing see it's burial in these modes.

Studies must continue, though, even in times of uncertainty.

More time =>more effort =>more chances to succeed in one go.

All the Best !

Embrace the Uncertainty.

Over to this! doesnt matter how eager upsc is to conduct the exams if the public transport doesnt get back to the normal operational level (ie.of pre corona phase) , it will be a difficult task for upsc to conduct the exams.

On any normal day indian railways was operating 13000 trains, but now its reduced to a even less than a quater of it. From June 1st 200 more trains will ply across india which is no way close to normal operational level. Even if we consider that the railways will subsequently increase the number, but we cant say it with certainty how long will it take. As on 5th of june when the decision will be taken, its highly unlikely that railways would have resumed full operation.

secondly, only 30 days advanced booking facility is available for trains as of now, and more to that, today odisha announced compulsory home quarantine of 14 days for people returning to the state. ( 7 day institutional quarantine for rural). Considering most of the trains are running at full capacity, and if one gets a journey date of say anywhere in the later part of june, he can no way appear for exam.

Being CS aspirants we sometimes tend to forget , it is not just the only  exam upsc has to conduct, ies mains is also pending and so are the interviews. At the end of the day its the sole decision of UPSC which will prevail but looking at the present conditions , its highly unlikely UPSC would want to take a risk by conducting prelims.

We should also keep Mumbai in mind regarding the Prelims situation because it's not going to start local trains anytime soon because almost 80% of the population depends on it for commute.

This year could be a washout considering situation of Mumbai and the likes. Don't see the cases peaking and contained to 0 in the city even by aug Sept so no exam till then in way. I feel they might even postpone all national recruitment exams to next year and club both year vacancies.
