I think if you have covered the demand of question with sufficient no. of points for all the parts of question and provided a relevant intro and conclusion, you can assume it to be excellent.. But then, its still an assumption, we might be wrong.

@CaesarIn a way, everyone lives in the same muddle. To have a clear conscience is truly a wonderful thing. If you still turn a blind eye to wrongs just to keep your conscience clear, doesn't really serve the purpose does it?

Interesting. It's like letting a particular bad happen as you can do good in some other areas(utilitarian perspective). While some are deontological in their approach.

@azam-imame434yes, even upsc has realised this, and now the practise of public disclosure of marks has been started so that private compaines find great talents from upsc aspirants

@CaesarYeah. Imagine the tough choices one makes in service on a regular basis. The final outcome that we usually hear about, is always a sum total of all these decisions one takes, courageous, timid or otherwise.

@CaesarI am working under district Collector directly in state services and believe me what we learn in ethics nothing is applicable here or can say initially every officer tries to be honest but when they realize how system works every one falls in line or they get sidelined. and one more thing if one is not corrupt directly, in the name of protocol they enjoy all the luxuries from there subordinates. This is also a form of corruption. But it is every where.

@sat_009Yeah my statement was a rhetoric, not a question. Clean conscience coupled with conscious decisions and concerted efforts will lead to something meaningful. Not sucking upto political powers for patronage and privilege will have their consequences of course. Totally depends on an individual how to take it forward.

@sat_009I feel what is good and what is excellent or exceptional is just in our respective minds. For me - Excellent would be addressing questions with 5-6 points under different parts of question, a crisp introduction and a positive best practice/committee recommendation type of conclusion. I tried to do this in more than 14-15 questions per paper I feel but are they all excellent? I don’t think so. So coming up with a formulae for different years is mere generalisation according to me and might not depict true picture. Yes, I also understand that it fits the kind of experience and marks you got.
