Mains 2019 Preparation and Discussion Thread
Now that 1 week is over, it is time to shift focus to Mains. With barely 103 days left there is no time to waste.

@sat_009That's some good score. hopefully you will enter the elite 300+ club. Wishing you all the best. Your GS answers are really good (read them yesterday). You will definitely be among the high scorers.
@zombielandno missed by 3 marks, less score in essay and gs 1 led to such thing happening

Today I want to share about MY CONFIDENCE, MY PERFORMANCE IN MAINS AND MY EXPECTATIONS -
But firstly let's discuss about cutoff .....my belief is that cutoff will be between 730 to 750 because of difficulty level of GS1, GS2, GS3 and GS4 and difficult optionals ( either one or both papers )
MY PERFORMANCE-
in GS1 I just attempted 200 marks questions and didn't write anything in question 8,9,10,20( regret ) it means 45 marks but my confidence is that I will get nearly 100-105. In paper 1 I have not written any irrelevant and made total 9 figure,map, hub spoke )
In GS 2 I have not attempted question 2,4,15, 17 which is equal to 50 marks, my confidence is that I will get 95-100. I have not written any irrelevant stuff in any questions but handled to the point questions like FRENCH secularism, UNESCO and I.R. questions.
in GS 3 I have written all the questions but in question number 15 i.e. about Traditional knowledge I wrote just 1 page. In GS 3 I have made 15 figures map, pie chart in GST, inflation trend , GDP TREND, coastal minning, cyberdome. JAM trinity yojna figure, map of hazard zones etc.
In GS 3 I guessed Visesvaraya ( due to key word ) and cyberdome ( wrote about ethical hackers to identify and prevent the cyber threat ). So expecting 120 plus in GS3
In GS 4 I have not attempted official secret act and last case study it means left 30 marks. But rest of the case studies and answers were written with good examples, ARC, Mahabharata's values. Made total 8 figure, values tree ( figure ), hub spoke in citizen charter, and we'll explained Quote based questions.
I am expecting 105 to 110 in ethics ( very confident due to rich content but u can say it over confidence )
So total in GS 100+95+120+105= 420
In essay first one was best with nearly 15 dimensions ( individual good not good for society ) in second essay my topic was south asia culture dimensions were nearly 9 to 10 and wrote about present context also. So in essay I am expecting 80+65= 145
In optional( socio) I left 30 marks in paper 1 and left 20 marks in paper 2 so again I left 50 marks I optional. But in socio 1 I am expecting 145 and and in socio 2 I am expecting 150. I wrote all the pages in optional in all the questions and made nearly 10 to 12 map, figure totally
So my final marks 420+145+295 = 860/ 1750
*I have not attempted 200 marks questions totally so my expectations are that I will get 860 in 1550.
Before u guys start criticising I want to share my final expectations at least
In interview I am hoping 185 plus so my final score would be 860+185 = 1045
So with 1045 I am hoping to get rank upto 50
Why I am confident ?
BECAUSE I FEEL I HAVE WRITTEN ONLY RELEVANT STUFF, which was asked in question paper, also wrote IBC format in all the question and I have written EXAMPLES in every question and made figure, map, . I had various example in mind because I have been reading THE HINDU since last 10 years and I hv notes of THE HINDU of last 5 years.
*I had started reading THE HINDU to learn English in 2009 because I am a HINDI MEDIUM STUDENT ( till 12th) that's why I couldn't complete question paper as I started writing english more than 2 pages during UPSC prepration. Till 12th I had mug up one application of "Leave" and two essay topics ( diwali festival and wonders of science )
My achievement is that I have written two UPSC mains in ENGLISH MEDIUM, today I am master to write answer of any question, I consider myself as MASTER OF SOCIOLOGY, today I am making content in prominent IAS institute and also evaluating mains test copies of aspirants in another institute ( * I was imprisoned in a room for last five years with same chair and same books and ofcourse with my girlfriend (THE HINDU ) which made me human.
still I am hopeful to get top 50 rank, Guys u can criticise, evaluate .....all the stuff written above are true
Still I feel I have written best answers in GS , optional and essay. Only regret is that I should have completed the paper but I feel I would have written half heartedly all the answers.

It may be brother .....I was HONEST with myself during prepration, avoided suggestions of friends, seniors. And worked where I was lacking with dedication. In my first prelims test of UPSC at CL I got minus 6 marks I GS paper1 in 2014, but with hardwork im 2016 I got 153 marks in UPSC prelims GS1. ( not saying anything for accolades )

And secondly, what exactly you wrote for interlinking river projects, demonetisation types of questions in sociology paper 2?
