[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

Because of the corona virus issue? If it does not happen then worst affected will be people whose interview is stuck, around 600-700 such people I think are yet to appear for their interview.

@neyawn sir and others, what is your take?

This is the official Thread for discussion of Prelims Postponement, Please do not create new threads for the same.

My last comment on all this:

Like someone mentioned, Judgment and the SOPs open Pandora's box of discretion for the people at the exam centre. And they are not  The Compassionate UPSC, they are old govt teachers usually with co-morbidites and they don't care about future of aspirants more than themselves. If they feel unsafe with your cough/high temperature, they'll throw you out and you can't fight strongly with them because the directions are ambiguous. Hope I am proven wrong. (In NEET, they did this to a lot of students you have people online telling such stories in detail)

And if it turns out like this and god forbid temperature is high that day, Paracetamol would be the way. We are left with no options. Take it atleast an hour or 1 and half hour before 9:30 and don't be distracted with the sweating that comes along with when the fever subsides.

Paracetamol will help to an extent. In this world there exists a lot and lot of faulty machines, so even if you are not +ve, let's not even discuss that.

BUT I am trying to be positive here and I am pretty sure after this internal directions would be issued by UPSC and they'll suggest exam centres to avoid barring candidates without any conclusive proof of the disease because they would also not want another streak of court cases.

Most probably for 99.99% of candidates, 4th will be a normal exam day and we'll have to be ready for that rather than this extra-ordinary situation that may arise for some 1 in 10k aspirants. So that tells me that, rather than writing this and discussing all this, I need to shut up and study.

What's my opinion on what happened today?

I feel that there's clear lack of empathy on both sides UPSC and SC. But really who cares, what I feel. No one gives a damn about what I feel is right. Let's go into the service and make what we feel count. Let's stay focussed on that.

Did not bid goodbye on that mass signoff day, but I think it had to be like this. Best of luck everyone.<3 (may be back to read @Patootie's post everyday :D)

Yikes! 200+ posts with three days to go for prelims. Seems like the competition is going to be insane this year considering everyone is so well prepared. Looking at the comments, it feels like only the aspirants of Civil Services are facing problems in COVID era. I gave an exam in which nearly 3 lakh applicants appeared and literally nobody was complaining.

UPSC is a considerate body, it will have made sufficient arrangements. These are unprecedented times so all we can do is be careful, take precautions (and paracetamol!), and give the exam to the best of our abilities.

Peace!

Hi guys....sorry to disturb your flow...my friend who was preparing well for exam has turned positive, and this is his last attempt...he is a doctor and from past six months he was struggling day and night treating the patients and even counseling them.

He missed final list last year by a whisker.... although he didn't get much time to prepare this time but still prepared somehow..

So, now would he be able to write exams....he has high fever, cold, throat ache...

In the light of today's judgement, can someone enlighten please

On a side note, I am really saddened at the state of affairs...we,covid warriors are working day and night saving people's lives....but when we fall ill, we are even denied the basic right of appearing for the exam.this is a pandemic, not a normal scenario....such unimaginable circumstances ,there should be some margin, consideration....I wonder what is stopping upsc from giving one additional attempt to those who are unable to write/prepare well this time...

For csat, two attempts two years age relaxation ,but now in a pandemic, nobody cares.....!!!!

What basic right are you talking about?? Right to infect people??

It's a pandemic, i have lost 3 of my relatives to Covid, I don't want to get infected at any cost!! You are saying nobody cares??? Well they care that's why they said that Covid patients won't be allowed.

And think rationally it's for the benefit of all..

I think regarding extra attempts, SC has just 'suggested' Upsc and not directed to it. It will be at the discretion of Upsc and ultimately the government to grant the extra attempt. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I think all of us should carry on with our revision. I get the feeling that a lot of members are thinking too much into the judgement. I suppose this is not the time to dwell too much into it. We should give our best attempt and that's what matters.

Diverting a bit from the discussion and risking of sounding a bit stupid, any suggestions from seniors regarding what would be the best pen for prelims OMR filling?

Any sane person left here, or is everyone on the brink of a nervous breakdown?

Sir,with due courtesy.....I ,being a medical professional myself know that it's infectious...I have seen people suffer , I have even saved few....!!

fine, let covid positive people not write it this year...then how about people like my friend who have their last attempt??

And, speaking in such a low manner about an aspirant and an infected person doesn't suit a future officer.

And one more word.,there have been instances in places like karnataka, where evn covid positive patients were isolated to write exam...

My friend had a genuine doubt whether he can write and if u kno the answer please tell.

Just to elucidate on the pandora box of discretion- Last year, my centre was at The Maurya school, Gurugram. At the time of frisking, the police personnel checking, did not allow anyone to wear analog watch, even though several people protested & showed the upsc directions allowing the use of simple watch.

Instead of engaging in further altercation, most aspirants chose to keep calm, so as not to affect their prelims performance.

I would urge all aspirants to avoid any war of words with the people in charge, as far as possible. Rather, focus on how you can give your best shot amidst the myriad constrains and hurdles.

@Warrior100 even if i get infected tommorow and won't be allowed to write the exam, i would still stand by my words! Even if i prepare all year for this exam, even if it is my last opportunity to make a career in civil services, i have no right to risk someone else's life. Being a professional you must know that even if I would be allowed to sit in a separate hall with other covid patients, then also many people including invigilator would be at risk..

And calling a patient by the term patient can not be called low mannered..

And for your friend, i have full sympathy for him, and i would pray that he gets healthy in next 2 days!! But that's all i can do..

Letting a covid patient write the exam can not be the solution.period!
