Ye maths Wale to 130 ke neeche baat hi nahi karte.. aur yaha apna 130 top notch mana jata hai 😬

Also it's binary. Either you will be around 300 score or will simply lurk around 120-150 marks including both the paper.

@Bubba_gump Bhai humanities optionals me preparation me time lagta hoga revision me nahi.
In Maths and Engineering, even if u study optional for 12 hrs daily,it will still take atleast 30-35 days for one round revision.
So that means, it takes  400 hours of study just for one round of revision despite of the fact that u have studied it for years.
I have studied civil engineering for years but still  i had to give  6 7 hours daily to civil engineering just to revise it 1.5-2 times in this mains. That means i had to give 600 hours just to optional.
I m not aware of any humanities optional where you need that amount of hours.Kindly enlighten us if that's the case.

@Minato bhai ..for god's sake don't say ki .geo optional me samay kam lgta h 🙏

My friend had geography optional. We are discussing how much time is required for optional revision. He said 3-4 days at max. This was it's answer post his first attempt. While it takes weeks in maths/physics optionals.

@Bubba_gump might not be true for you but for him it was. Eventually he did get an amazing score. So 🤷🏻‍♂️

Geography ka to pata nahi lekin history to revise kare nahi hota.

Aur nayi cheeze aur perspective ate hai wo alag.

Waise science subjects are different in many ways, takes time too. But if one has taken good effort does it guarantee great score?? History me I know a few ppl who are languishing in average score of 230-240 despite doing what is required. I think this is where difference lies.

But why do ppl like engineers still take humanities subjects? Mostly coz they can't below a certain number( it's very difficult to get really low score of 120-130s in history for both papers combined), so it acts like a safety net while science ppl can't take that for granted.

There's another factor. Pretty much no one takes their branch seriously in engineering colleges. We're scared of anything that's remotely related to calculation. So humanities becomes the obvious choice :P

@RaGa In engineering/maths ,if u have worked very very hard for years and if u have a good day on exam, u may get 300+ or even 320s
If you have a very bad day still 250+.
However, most people grossly underestimate the effort required and get very poor marks.

The good thing about these optionals is that the rules of the game is very clear. If u have capacity to study madly and have concepts, the game is yours. The game is in your control not UPSC.More hard work often leads to more marks.

However, this is not the case with humanities optionals, hard work may not lead to marks and then one falls in a trap of marks around 240s and doesn't know how to increase it.
I will always choose an optional where hard work translates into marks.
The challenge in technical optionals is very clear-Jigre me dam to hai lo and reward leke jao.😅

From perspective of an average candidate ( not Kaniskha kataria iit rank in top 50)

One should maths or engg optional only if he is extremely good at it. If one gets average number in maths optional say 240 to 250 then it is very difficult to make it into the list (general category).

This is so becoz of their very high demanding nature the marks in other papers suffer. Moreover knowledge of optional is of no use in other papers.

Better choice for such candidates in humanities optional

@zombieland Very true. One should avoid these subjects unless he she is extremely good as well as extremely hard working.

@Shubz Unfortunately, mains aur pre ke beech me hours hi rehte hain ages nahi😂😂
Anyways, history jaise optional me one doesnt know ki 300 kaise laayein.Clarity kam hai aise optonals me upar se UPSC kuch bhi absurd pooch leti hai jo Upinder Singh me bhi naa ho.
That is another type of toughness which is not even in your hands.
Isiliye the good thing about tech optional is that its extremely demanding but game aapke hath me hai not UPSC.Questions ki absurdity relatively kam hai humanities se.
