How was your paper? How did you approach the paper?
@Capedcrusader1 Har side ka apna challenge hai but it's true that after certain level, marks ki surity rehti hai technical optional me.
haan yar
im thinking changing my optional now
2 technical optional le sakte hain kya? taki assurity zaada ho jaye
@RaGa In engineering/maths ,if u have worked very very hard for years and if u have a good day on exam, u may get 300+ or even 320sIf you have a very bad day still 250+.However, most people grossly underestimate the effort required and get very poor marks. The good thing about these optionals is that the rules of the game is very clear. If u have capacity to study madly and have concepts, the game is yours. The game is in your control not UPSC.More hard work often leads to more marks. However, this is not the case with humanities optionals, hard work may not lead to marks and then one falls in a trap of marks around 240s and doesn't know how to increase it.I will always choose an optional where hard work translates into marks. The challenge in technical optionals is very clear-Jigre me dam to hai lo and reward leke jao.😅
Totally agree with this. Atleast with respect to maths.
I have two friends, who took mathematics optional (who gave 5 mains). Their feedback is , while it takes time to complete the optional, as attempt count increased, your marks remain stable.
There is certainity in life, like good performance translates to good marks.
Their scores remained in range of 280-310 in last 3 mains. But, optional requires much hardwork than humanities and it won't help anyways in gs and essay.
Im from anthro, and my marks fluctuated so badly , I've seen high 280s and low 210s.
I have a friend with anthro. He got 260 in 2019, which is a above average score that year. In 2020, his score is 166(83+83). Post exam also, he told he wrote the paper decently..But shit like that can happen in humanities. The probability of a moron screwing your life is higher in humanities. While in maths, you will be your biggest villian.
But , on other side humanities have advantage, like you can prepare while working. From past few attempts, i was preparing along with a hectic private job.
I was able to prepare confidently, because my optional is humanities. With maths, prep would have been very difficult with job.
Are you still preparing with job?how many hours are you able to give to prep?

🤣🤣🤣
I have given mains with both humanities and engineering optional. I can for certain say that the amount of hardwork required for engineering is too much, compared to that humanities takes lesser time. Also the 3 months gap one has to spend time to get their calculation strategies in order to compensate for the time alloted for prelims this takes a toll on gs.
But it is also true that science optional have clear direction in which the work has to be put in, humanities one is not sure of what to study
muje lagta hai ki humaity optional me starting me bada interest aata hai lekin baad me jab hardwork karne ka samay aata hai tab log backout kar jate hain
maine khud experience kia hai ye
its very very difficult to go extra mile for value addition which can take me from average to above average
but one thing i know, ye value add ko 10 baar bhi kar lun toh bhi technical optional se kam time and effort lagega
Mathematics optional main bhi bohot ratta maarna hai. Agar jm kr ratta nhi lga paaye toh gs ka paper khatm hote hote poora mathematics bhool jate log. Fir marks lower extreme pe aa jayega.
Main toh 4 attempt anthro se de chuka hoon. Mathematics se chota syllabus hai. Tb bhi bhoool jaate. Darr hi lga rehta hai. Bt marks har bar badh rhe hain. Bas iss baar bhagwaan thoda aur badha dain.
Mathematics main marks ki assurity toh hai bt mere liye niche wala extreme ka assurity hai.
@Capedcrusader1 welcome to ifos, dono technical rhega
iska prelims nikaalne ke lie seedha brahma ka haath mere sir pe hona chaiye
@Forumite tumhare kitne marks rahe bhai last time m. Mera toh 256 se 246 ho gya bc. Last time socha acche se prepare Kiya h ,dono papers m 10-10 bhi increase ho toh 276 ho jayega. 😠Ulta 10 km ho gya
Absolute terms me mt dekho marks...2019 ka 260 is 2020 ka 240

No.. currently I'm not preparing.I wrote mains and stopped studying. I won't appear in future also. If i clear this mains by luck..i'll study for interview. Else that's it.
During mains i took leave for 20 days. Normal working days 3-4 hrs per day.
@Capedcrusader1 science valo m mann nhi krta ek saturation point k baad bhai
usme kya h na ki maja bhot aata h sawal lagane me
books kafi ho jati hain
topper notes kam hain
mere optional me topper notes bhot hain lagta h books bekar hi padh rah hu
yehi kar leta hu aur value add jaise rank 1 ne kia

@Duryodhan Maine 2018 me diya thaTab preparation kam thi 258 the us waqt.P1 me just 111 reh gaye the.Tab 20 30 marks jyaada bhi milte the.Is baar better aane chahiye mere.Sahi keh raha mujhe bahut dar lagta hai history geography optional se.Effort badhane ke baad marks kam hone lagna ye to mujhe sleepless nights de dega.Apna atleast ye achha hai ki pata hai kaise marks laane hain.
Best of luck Bhai. Acche aayenge tumhare
Mere paper 2 m nhi badh rhe h . Wahi imp. H to get around 280 atleast.
