How was your paper? How did you approach the paper?
@Bubba_gump might not be true for you but for him it was. Eventually he did get an amazing score. So 🤷🏻♂️
Okay.. going by same logic..
I know a friend who revised maths for 2 days n scored 280+..n he got ample time for gs revision.
So should we assume that maths requires only 2 days of revision..
Please don't make extreme statement here..
All subjects are almost on equal platform..
Btw.. geography optional is pretty vast.. that I can say from my personal experience..
@RaGa In engineering/maths ,if u have worked very very hard for years and if u have a good day on exam, u may get 300+ or even 320sIf you have a very bad day still 250+.However, most people grossly underestimate the effort required and get very poor marks. The good thing about these optionals is that the rules of the game is very clear. If u have capacity to study madly and have concepts, the game is yours. The game is in your control not UPSC.More hard work often leads to more marks. However, this is not the case with humanities optionals, hard work may not lead to marks and then one falls in a trap of marks around 240s and doesn't know how to increase it.I will always choose an optional where hard work translates into marks. The challenge in technical optionals is very clear-Jigre me dam to hai lo and reward leke jao.😅
ab koi difference nai reh gaya hai
humanities me scores dekh lo ap
koi advantage nai hai technical optionals ko
Every subject is tough in a different way.
In humanities subjects one doesn't know what is the sure shot way to get 280s 300.
.Imagine in GS one can score 380-400 with hard work but how to get 430 440 450,one doesn't know with surity
Its so tough when you don't know what will work and what will not.Every now and then ,their will be breaks on your hard work because may be that effort is going into waste. One has to always self introspect in these subjects.
On the other hand,in technical subjects, there is clarity of demand.
But that demand is too much hard work and concepts. Its easy to say I will work very hard but not everyone has tenacity to actually work hard.It needs tonnes of perseverance.
So type of toughness is different but every subject has its own puzzle.

Totally agree with this. Atleast with respect to maths.
I have two friends, who took mathematics optional (who gave 5 mains). Their feedback is , while it takes time to complete the optional, as attempt count increased, your marks remain stable.
There is certainity in life, like good performance translates to good marks.
Their scores remained in range of 280-310 in last 3 mains. But, optional requires much hardwork than humanities and it won't help anyways in gs and essay.
Im from anthro, and my marks fluctuated so badly , I've seen high 280s and low 210s.
I have a friend with anthro. He got 260 in 2019, which is a above average score that year. In 2020, his score is 166(83+83). Post exam also, he told he wrote the paper decently..But shit like that can happen in humanities. The probability of a moron screwing your life is higher in humanities. While in maths, you will be your biggest villian.
But , on other side humanities have advantage, like you can prepare while working. From past few attempts, i was preparing along with a hectic private job.
I was able to prepare confidently, because my optional is humanities. With maths, prep would have been very difficult with job.
Also, if you are preparing for other backup exams too(state PSC etc).. having a humanities optional can be less stressful.
Lastly, in humanities (atleast anthro), you can get away writing relevant nonsense. If you are lucky, you are rewarded . Bluffing works. A friend wrote fake case studies in anthro paper 2 and scored really good marks. He joked that, he even used our names in some case studies 😂.
Technical optionals, one should be spot on, i believe.
@Capedcrusader1 Bhai top scores to similar hain but 260 280 aa jaate hain achhi preparation ke sath in tech optonals.Humanities me effort is lesser but guarentee nahi hai ki 250 bhi aayenge.
nai aisa kuch nai hai.
@Bubba_gump Bhai humanities optionals me preparation me time lagta hoga revision me nahi.In Maths and Engineering, even if u study optional for 12 hrs daily,it will still take atleast 30-35 days for one round revision. So that means, it takes 400 hours of study just for one round of revision despite of the fact that u have studied it for years.I have studied civil engineering for years but still i had to give 6 7 hours daily to civil engineering just to revise it 1.5-2 times in this mains. That means i had to give 600 hours just to optional.I m not aware of any humanities optional where you need that amount of hours.Kindly enlighten us if that's the case.
Ye bhai ekdum sahi bol rha h. History toh 2 hrs m revise ho jaati h.
Nd ek bar thik se syllabus cover ho gya toh life set h ,upsc wale ghar se uthaake lekar jayenge selection k liye. Trust me bro.
@Duryodhan U have to revise 5 6 max 10 books. We have to revise 30 thick books.30 Upinder Singh karloge revise 2 hrs me ?Genius ho aap.
Bade bhaiya,49 chapters h history m . Revise krte time end tk jaate jaate shuru ka bhulne lgte h.
