btw does anyoe feel that in many questions of gs2, the content was simply too less? not just for usvs india rights question but for many others aswell. yet somehow had to open points on the same main point only

I agree 100 %.. I was going through PYQs day before yesterday (for state psc).. UPSC has a weird habit of asking those questions for 15 markers, which can be answered in just  a page..
*Sighs*....

@sjerngal On the surface, Gs 2 might look easy but it was indeed tough.Familiarity with topic is one thing while writing quality answers is another.
Anyways paper always looks easy to one who hasn't attempted it.

How many of you honestly feel that filling up pages has positive impact on the marks

I don't mean writing just anything.. but points atleast remotely related to the topic...

I believe it is this thought process which forces us to fill almost every page of every answer...

PS.. I remember watching Ira Singhal video..where she was strongly against such attitude..

But other toppers recommend it though..

@sjerngal yes very weird
now in aukus question, just look at how its framed, ad i can guarantee (well not guarantee ), people would have faced extensive issues in decoding questions like AUKUS.
firstly it says its a counter to china. theek.
then it says will it supercede existing parterships. theek h this is also different
fir inka pet nai bhara. discuss the strength and impact of aukus in present scenario.

so this is like 5 questions in this.

and you most probably will know 5-6 valid points. but you have to give subheadings which is must and you have to mention points in those.

aise hi maine kai questions me dekha h.

its like intentional misleading of sorts to waste your time and feel inadequate

gs 3 crop "DIVERSIFICATION". challenges is fine.

but next part asks :"emerging techologies for crop diversification".
i really have no idea what this is..

@Declared_Dead wo karna padega. you have to fill pages even if remotely relevant. i can go on why its important.
but all ill say is, toppers ki sari baat dil pe lena sehat ke lie theek nai hai

I think the approach of Ira Singhal was unique. She said that she had read around 30 books for her optional (probably geography). Bt considering time constraint most us cannot do this. Even toppers today r not doing this. Shubham rank 1said that he relied heavily on books of akshat jain nd bhasme (consider these books as notes).

So for gs as well she might had a different strategy which may not work for us. Better we follow the conventional wisdom which has worked for more number of people.

@Capedcrusader1 pls tell why it is important?

@Lbshallofresidence need for writing points (even remotely relevant) to the asked questions:
- questions themselves are not straight and to the point
-they are analytical and requires analysis. analysis of 2 persons cant be same let alone all those giving mains.
-the words discuss and elucidate may have multiple interpretations.
-the examiner unless he has the solutions engrained in his mind , which i dont think is the case, will look at all answers on their own merits.
last but not the least: if you write only (exactly relevant points) for questions, you will waste time on questions because in 7 mins and 11 mins , you cant write (exactly relevant). thus miss many questions in toto.

these all points are my own mann ki baat. puri tarah se galat sabit ho sakta hu. but ill take my chances with this strategy rather than aim for perfection.

@Declared_Dead I don't believe in filling up pages just for the sake of it. There are many questions where you have so many points, but not enough time. So, better spend your time there, instead of filling up empty spaces, hoping to get an extra 0.5 marks.

the desire for those 0.5 marks make us keep filling pages.... like moths flying after sources of light......

N end up losing marks elsewhere

"the global economy has been transformed from one based on materials to one based on knowledge. Where once the main sources of wealth were material assets such as gold mines, wheat fields and oil wells, today the main source of wealth is knowledge. And whereas you can seize oil fields by force, you cannot acquire knowledge that way. The profitability of conquest has declined as a result":

@Philip_Marlowe most of copies of toppers are filled 2 pages in 10 markers and 3 pages in 15 markers.
They are simply answering the questions asked with relevant points.
For that most of them give huge spaces, big fonts and feel their copy give is , yes he/she knows

To know the whole story, one should go back 1.8 million years, to the horn of Africa.

Presently, an autocrat is invading a democracy, simple enough story.

no its not that simple. you dont muscle flex infront of a superpower and then cry foul.

the act of ukrainian adventure doesnt find much appreciation is USA itself.

hopefully, usa and west ukraine remain silent and let the process be over peacefully.

it not iraq. its russia they are meddling with

How did they "flex the muscle"? Can you please elaborate?

I feel Joe Biden has failed to even keep the Rhetoric. When Trump was in office, howsoever senile he may be is rhetorics did work sometimes, but Biden failed in that part too

2008: offering nato membership to ukaine.

ukraine if accepted nato membership would let murica install nuclear missiles right at the gates of russia

latvia estonia lithuania are already nato members

you are basically encircling russia from all sides

ukraine under nato means black sea gone for russia.

last time i checked india is also a informal nato member (of sorts), yes there is such a scheme in nato. ill get you the name in sometime. it was in vision monthly.

so when russia is being encircled like that, then why should it not see these activites of us as a threat. anf its not the earstwhile weak ussr.

economy: i cant mention anything more than nord stream here. europe is largely russian dependent.

ukraine by the way has a large russian supporting population.

please read a bit of current affairs before asking "please elaborate"

if i have an opinion, i have my set of arguments to back it up.

and about history: start from iranian war, iraq war, afghan war, vietnamese war.

about the modus operandi of usa: watch documentaries.
