Hello 2021 aspirants. I thought it would be nice if we can share what we are doing and intend to do with one another here.
This could be a thread for discussing everything prep for 2021.
No one method fits all but to see the plans and progress made by fellow aspirants might help with the finer details of preparation and also keep one on track.

It's being increasingly difficult for me to study in isolation. Also I feel if I am unable to control my frequent login on Forum as also visiting various thread, is it really feasible for me to study in isolation which demands even stricter self control? To successfully execute the latter which requires higher self discipline I must learn first to successfully practice the former. Is my analogy right? Can anyone here help me in subsiding my confusion?@Vinay12 @Mauraisles @Luna Lovegood and others as well
Start small. Get busy with your daily targets. Have a weekly and monthly vision.
I use Save my time and Digital detox app.
21 days challenge helps...in making a new habbit.
Talk to your family and friends...complete isolation is not effective in long run.
And you can actually make a timeline of what you do in a day, these days. And then make a plan for yourself modifying your schedule that suit your targets, a few days later.
Your aim is to maximize your studying efficiency and hrs. So, dont think about not using this platform per se rather focus on your targets and you will do fine.
You can try reading Great by choice book by Jim Collins in your breaks.
@IamThat Thanks bro, now it's clear. The essence is that focus should be shifted from Forum and this can be successfully done by making some other habits as predominant. And after succeeding in it for some days what can be done is operating Forum once or twice a day for a short pre-decided time. Thank you so much. :)
@Mauraisles No no, you have made your points very clear. I got the essence. It's about developing preventive ways + some external forms of self-control. For example, replacing internet surfing with some other stuffs in the short breaks and using some specific Apps which help exercise self control. Thanks a lot. :)
@Vinay12 Isolation is my case is whatever you can think of by it. No Facebook, no WhatsApp, no Telegram, no smartphone, not a single friend, and not even a study circle. But yes, these all because I have made a deliberate choice about it to keep all my sources of distractions at bay. No doubt it helps, but at times it haunts too. Anyway, your idea of studying those subjects which could keep internet sidelined is really nice. Thanks :)
@Luna Lovegood Yes, you are right in your statement that complete isolation is not effective in long run. I too feel it. It works miraculously for some short period of time but not otherwise. Maybe because we aren't machine but social animals having emotions and mood swings. And aim should be to maximize study hours rather than minimize time spent on Forum. Right you are. Thank you very much. :)

Hi, I am not writing mains this year, I couldn't clear prelims so I don't know if I am the right person to advise you. But I can share whatever I have gathered till now:
- If you can afford it, join Rankers coaching. It is currently the best in the market and will help you finish your syllabus in a time bound manner.
- If you cannot afford it, buy Rankers notes and start studying from them. For each subject, use 1 book and ranker's notes.
- Take a look at PYQs. The first few pages of each book has PYQs chapter wise. Let them be your guide.
- Join a test series after Prelims next year.
- Take a look at other people's strategies. Just go to rankers website, you will find a list of people who have cleared with this optional. Google each one of them with strategy and you will get a fair idea of how to begin.
Feel free to ask more specific doubts. I will help you the best I can.

Hi everyone. I don't know this is the right place to ask this question but I'm stuck. I really can't understand the syllabus (as many people know it topic wise) Recently I've almost completed all ncert for economics but I'm confused about what next! Should I go for standard book or should I complete other ncert first? I'm a beginner and tbh doing my level best to understand this whole syllabus.. People say that go through past year papers and find what to study Nd what to not..but if I can't comprehend the syllabus, how can I comprehend what topics are frequently asked? Please help me out.. I'll be really really really thankful 🙏🏻
But the UPSC has already elucidated the syllabus in quite a detailed manner. For example, out of the 20 sub-topics which relate to GS-III, the first 10 clearly belong to the Indian Economy. Isn't it? I guess you are asking from Prelims perspective! Am I right?
@Gaurav sir I'm asking for both the mains and prelims. If you could help me out with this I'd be really thankful 🙏🏻 I'm stuck and confused.
For Mains, I have already told you that out of the 20 sub-topics which GS-III comprises, the first 10 belong to Economy. And as regards Economy (Prelims) static portion, the following may help you.
1) Indian Economy- An introduction
2) Economic Planning, Growth and Development
3) Poverty, Inequality and Unemployment
4) Inflation
5) RBI and Monetary Policy
6) Money, Banking and Financial Markets
7) Public Finance in India
8) Indian Agriculture
9) Indian Industries
10) External Sectors of India
11) International Economic Organizations
12) Government Budgeting and Taxation
13) Inclusive Growth
PS- The topic listed above are only inclusive meaning thereby they are not exhaustive.
