CSE 2021: Plan / Strategy / Daily Routine

Hello 2021 aspirants. I thought it would be nice if we can share what we are doing and intend to do with one another here.

This could be a thread for discussing everything prep for 2021.

No one method fits all but to see the plans and progress made by fellow aspirants might help with the finer details of preparation and also keep one on track.

Hi friends happy Diwali! No targets today, just trying to squeeze in study time in the middle of festive fun wherever possible. Have fun you guys, if possible (for those who live in ORN) Agarwal se mithai kha lena :) this bread will feast on ladoo as well 🥳🥳

Managed to write a 1.5 hour test in between. And some random moments of study wherever possible. Barely made any progress today but that’s ok because it was expected

@Bodhisattva

TLDR:You're completely on point. Revise more, to write more factually supported relevant points :)

The IDEAL target would ofcourse be 12-13 points substantiated with facts/examples/case studies. But that's not practical. With more practice and revision, you'll move towards specific relevant points. We would still have relevant points (without facts) and generic points. But the number will be lesser.

For Maths People@Celeborn @MikeWozniak @Archand @Master @Infinitybeyondinfinity and others:

Do visit the Telegram Channels of - Vinayak Narwade and Utkarsh Kumar. A lot of helpful content, along with strategy guidance is there. And they are also trying to personally answer doubts whenever possible.

So Overall Focus is to write as many points.. But the Components of those Points will be mostly of two types: Generic Points without any facts and Points Substantiated by Fact.. With More Reading More Revision the weightage of later [Points with facts] Should Increase?

This should be the mindset Going towards every Topic of mains isn't it?

@Arrokoth @AJ_

Please let me know how a normal day for you was? I mean please highlight on ur daily routine part. Was it studying at a stretch or with some gaps after every hour ? Did u study in the morning or in the night?

Also I saw your total number of hours to be around 3811 hrs in 12 months. Was it distributed evenly across all the months or it had some high and lows?

Also I would like to know if u practised some yoga/gym/ exercise to have more than 10 hrs of study everyday?

Which all apps did u used to focus on ur studies? Were u more of a online person or offline person? Did u made offline or online notes?

I know I have asked a lot of question but please try to answer

For me:

Till 2 months before Pre - 6-8 hours daily with a break on Sunday (meaning 2-3 hours study). 3 slots of 2 or 2.5 hours each

From 2 months before Pre to Mains: 9-14 hours daily (14 is touched a fortnight before Pre and Mains), 3 slots of 3 to 4 hours.

After Mains - 2 to 6 hours daily (6 hours touched about a month before Interview), before that 3-4 is the cozy range.

My slots were : 11-2 pm, 4-7 pm, 9 to 12 am.

14 hour slots were: 9:30 to 2 pm, 2:30 to 7:30 pm, 8:30 to 1 am

My secret to more than 10 hours (in the small intervals outlined above) - was anxiety. Studying was my way to escape doomsday thoughts then.

Focusing was done by: airplane mode + keeping the phone in a different room than I was in. However that was usually not the case as I made my tiny notes-type things on Evernote on my phone itself. All my notifications were off during Pre-Mains, so no distractions.

@Master so, getting a 360 would require you having done your CA well, having atleast some notes ready for major portions of GS papers (not issues wise, but sub-topic wise) and a grip on GS 4.

This maybe done through doing only your CA source well and treating that as value addition, and being able to write okay-ish answers fast enough. So, practice for speed and frameworks I'd say.

@Serendipity QEP notes are good value add, but the teaching by the person leaves much uncovered - atleast this is what I've heard of the program. Have never used any of it. Same is with Insights' program, never heard of it. I think Dipin Sir's classes are usually considered good enough to cover topics. Again, have only heard this, never attended it.

The main point of having mains notes is to be able to use/replicate them in exam. So, whichever method (relying on external note/making own) is more aligned with this - you can do. Since time is less, I'd say go with the second approach. Maybe@AJ_ can put in another perspective.

@leftfaithinmyself with a 68 you may require help in both approach, framing, and answering tactics in Ethics. If you have time, I'd say get some external help in form of crash course + test series. Atleast will put you on a baseline vis-a-vis GS 4.

Thank you @Arrokoth for the detailed response and also for being there and guiding us in crucial times.

Had a very bad day today. I am not habituated to high pollution, and Delhi is choking me (having throat irritation and watering eyes). I am also going through headaches from yesterday evening. Cound not focus at all. Also, I missed today's AWFG.

Delhiites, please suggest how to tackle this. Does air purifying plants help?

Not a delhite, but I've stayed there for 5 years and I know what this gas chamber feels like.

Some of my delhite friends use air purifiers, they say it works but then when AQI is already 500-600+ , so idk how much it will help.  But something is better than nothing...

On a side note Use Hankerchief soaked in water and put it on ur eyes and nose when u lie down..

Headache is also bcz of the smoke, it will go eventually...

Target for 5/11/21

  • Complete revision of gs-1

Good day today..

Deliberately kept such a massive target for myself so that I push myself to do it..

Goals achieved today

  • World history revision done
  • Modern history revision done
  • Geography partly done

Fairly satisfied as notes and first iterations are ready for the other topics left.. Just need to revise and revise them..

Safe to move on to gs-2 now..

Goodnight guys..

@Vishnugupta Completed only 80 % of the target despite not having to read any newspaper today. Will have to slow down for next few days given not so good health.
Targets for 6th Nov
PSIR 1A : Th of Equality, Rights
2A: Globalization
Ethics: 3 remaining case studies of 2013
Newspaper
Don't think I can do more than this given the severe cold I am suffering from. But will to see if I can squeeze some time for some Internal Security related topics if my health supports.

Thanks for the advice, will try it out.
As you have stayed long enough in Delhi, can you tell, is this temporary Diwali effect, or will it stay during the whole winter?

Edit - I was talking about indoor plants, not planning to invest on a purifier for just 2 months:blush:
