Thoughts on the open simulator test? From those who attempted in discipline mode
decent one, but while attempting it felt like something was missing (may be due to no or lesser pressure )
basically a typical mock, where we know most of the answers
UPSC prelims is different game altogether- pressure, expectations, bouncer questions, length of the paper .............
Civils Mains:2017,2018,2020,2021,Forest Mains:2021.
@Archand Found the paper to be on the tougher side compared to UPSC Prelims. The difficulty was primarily because of close options i feel.
My score is nowhere near what I thought it would be while I was attempting the paper. So perhaps it was the close options that made me lose marks. Will only know once solutions are out.
I do hope you're right about it being tougher than prelims though, that would be nice!
Thoughts on the open simulator test? From those who attempted in discipline modeIt did feel very 'UPSC' like. First half seemed very doable. Second half did have 2020 like questions specially in Agriculture.
yes you are right, the second half had some questions with confusing options
Even then, it does feel like that the par score for this would be in the 115-120 range at the very least. Let's see if forum releases a cutoff (they usually do it for other simulators!)

As questions/concepts were a repeat from SFG, I feel that SFG takers had an advantage. Familiarisation with only a few questions makes it easy to navigate through other questions as well. Considering SFG advantage, it was an easy paper.
@Steph_Curry found it slightly on the easier side, scored 120 but I think I marked 4-5 questions wrong due to over-confidence, might well have just left them.
Decision about easier and tougher for Prelims is decided differently. I am not a person with high accuracy, so in mocks I attempt more than 95 always may be 100, same I did in 2019 prelim(97 attempts), scored 122. Also before 2020 prelims in mocks I was scoring 130+ constantly. But the aura of 2020 prelims was such that I attempted 90 only, which is too less for my standards and that in most probability hindered my prelims chances (other factors are there but template change was bigger factor)as I was basically a border line case and the guesses for the remaining 10 questions might have provided me atleast 8-10 marks, but I chose to not attempt them. Also length of the paper was such that if I had 10 more minutes I could have attempted those remaining questions.
Atleast experience of giving this paper was nowhere close to Prelims, scored 133.
Scoring wayyy more than what I score in Vision abhyaas and full length..
Now I am wondering ki kaun pagal bana raha hai?? One paper is tooo difficult for me.. one is a lot easier..
How am I to judge my performance. ?
P.S: I did not shut my door while giving the test and did not even stop my parents or my dog from talking loudly , because I was mentally trying to recreate an atmosphere wherein I will have equally loud invigilators in the room..
I also felt that there were too many polity and Indian economy questions , which is my strong area.. And I don't want to believe that UPSC will ask many questions from these two subjects in 2021 also.. They have already been asking a lot of questions from polity lately.. My pessimistic mind says ki is baar toh kuch alag hi format hoga ... This makes me scared!!
