Is it possible to do mba from.good colleges after gap of 3-4 years? Also, I have not seen anyone beyond the age of 27 years doing the regular pgp (in my friend circle).

^ knew a friend's 'friend from iim rohtak who did his mba after a gap of 5 year....doing mba is never an issue, the problem might /might not arise after entering the sector,,if you are going for a niche market then it can be of some concern, but that too can be tackled by gaining some certifications and skills.(finding the right on campus job will be difficult)

I'm not the right person to answer this dude. But i know a person who had studied for upsc for few years, got 107th( don't remember exactly) rank but was denied service because of some reason. Then he joined IIM and got into a very good company. But he fought the case in court parallely and got reinstated as IAS finally.

Others who know people joining PGP with 3-4 years gap can answer this.

@Lazydreamer@NadigVinayLeft paytm around 2.5 years back to prepare for this exam. Recently for the last 2-3 months, I also was feeling the same way (not finding it worth to remain unemployed), and hence have rejoined the corporate (as any more gap would have made me completely obsolete for corporate scenario). Have decided that will work even harder and give future attempts with job only.

With proper required dedication n determination , i really feel one can clear prelims with job. For mains, i dont know if it's possible to give best attempt with regular job. I quit after the prelims for the only reason that i had decided this year to be my last attempt and wanted to give my best. If your company provides loss of pay leave option for 3 months, that would be great.

Good luck bro?

@nikhilrai0827880how did your mains go this time?

2.6k views

@NadigVinayNow a days agar company mein starting mein apna caliber dikha do, then they easily provide sabbatical to retain you (paytm guys also offered me 3 months sabbatical as another option instead of resigning, but I rejected that), so counting on that if I clear pre this time also.
Hence the plan is that I will take job very seriously till march, and then start preparation for pre from april. If I clear it, will ask for sabbatical (jitni bhi duration ka wo dein).
Obviously all of the above is valid if I am not able to clear this time. Regarding this year's mains, it was my first one. Have completed all the papers, with relevant answers in most of the questions, and not so relevant in some. So, frankly have no idea what to expect.

@John_Titoru cannot allow using the fear of china against us that will allow every country to bully us and use china card to arm twist us and sacrifice our core intrests and influence of china is a reality and our neighbour hood will actively use China for further investments in their countries irrespective of how magnanimous we are so its better we accept that reality and work with china on these fronts and actively try to increase our influence in chinas neighbour hood as a counterbalence.
USA did not follow altruistic diplomacy with pakistan it rather wanted to protect its bases in afganistan and for settlement there of which pakistan has major role.
China is also a major bully in diplomacy but they actively use carrot and stick to further and protect its intrests.
My entire point is fear of repurcusions should not be guiding our policy when it comes to protecting our core intrests as it would show us as a meek country and sometimes show of strenth in different ways is benefitial

Anyone here who knows good bit about Indian Foreign Service or has interacted with an IFS officer? I feel like filing it as my first option many a times but I would like a good cost benefit analysis vis a vis IAS before doing the same.

Yes you can get into an old iim even after a gap of 3-4 years.I m from IIM Kozhikode and had many friends there who came after preparing for a gap of 2-3 years. But for an old iim you will need a percentile above 99.5(I got into at 99.27 as I had no gap but all my friends who had gaps had percentile above 99.5).
Also met people from iim lucknow and indore(for indore u need very good acads in 10th ,12th and boards) and even iim C who had gap and then joined iims but getting into IIMA and B would be a challenge.
Post IIMs they got into decent jobs(not the topmost ones and neither the bottomost ones).
But before joining iim better look into your personality. Some people are just not made for corporate(I did my pgp from K,did a decent job as well but left it there was never a sense of fulfillment) and some are.
So best of luck.....May you clear UPSC CSE-2019 with flying colours..

IFS used to be the first choice till economic reforms of 1991.

Pros n cons you maybe knowing I guess. Rest is your personal choice.

Quality of life is way above IAS because no political pressure, better residence, facilities, status, respect n all.

But if you're like in love with the land n culture of India or your state n all, u wd not survive in that service.

@DreadfulAlso I heard from a 2nd person source that once you get into IFS,to get better postings high level political lobbying goes on and contacts matter for sure in IFS.
Donno how true it is though!

@ManchesterUnited

It's very true.

If you don't have contacts you will end up serving Tanzania, Uganda Rawanda, Burundi n all n will never c US, Britain, France n all.

Please tell. I don't care about the identity of people on internet. What I am concerned about is exchange of ideas and opinions and I feel your perspective would be really valuable here.

@DreadfulYeah I was told the same!
Also UN postings are those, for which most of the lobbying goes on itseems!
Either a high performing officer or a person with high profile links get posted in UN.
