@ShubzSame here. I attempt 15 markers pehle. How much time do you usually give it? I aimed at finishing them in 1 hour 50 minutes but it overshot almost every time by few minutes.

@paranthapijjamy target was 1 hr 40 mins and it almost everytime took 1 hr 50 mins?
Going by my marks of 2018 i think that they give around 4 mrks for very low quality ans,5-6 mrks for avg quality,7-7.5 mrks for good quality.

@ShubzSticking to 1 hour 50 minutes is optimum if one can do it. Marks wise too the allocation to 15 markers comes around 1 hour 48 minutes.

@Shubz
For very poor quality they give 1 to 2 marks and for good quality 9 to 10 marks.

@dr-ahmednaaz8567More like 4 for very poor answers and 9-10 for very good answers.

@ShubzRelevance of answers to what is asked is more important than quality of write up, sometime people write good stuff but most of that is not relevant or has not been asked.
Sometime we feel toppers answers are general or not to that level becoz we have been encultured to such external unnecesary standards and expectations,
quality of write up will help only in case of relevance.
so in my opinion, relevance and addressing all parts of question will fetch highest marks.

@sat_009yup...bt in gs it becomes very difficult to write top quality answers considering the nature of questions and the time limit in which we have to gather all the info...so on an avg i consider 8 mrks.... however in optional our prep lvl is high and the chances are more to encounter a ques similar to the one we have already prepared. Thus it becomes easier to get a 9 in optional thn GS...on the whole the checking pattern of upsc is liberal than that what we encounter in the mocks...

@paranthapijja
True...

But I followed approach Jo question ache se aate the ...10 or 15 markers dono....use phle attempt kiya with maintaining quality and good hand writing..... Rest phir attempt kiya....

Aur jahan bahut content ni aa RHA tha to unnecessary elaborate ni kiya....so could focus more on known question

Anyone who has experience of attempting all the questions in a GS paper and leaving 1-2 in other GS paper, how much difference did it really make?

@Deltahaan milte hain 80 percent marks optional me varna 350 tak ka score kaise hi karte log even in humanities optional !!

@TeddyWestsideyes bro, especially anthro?

@Deltaif u hve left 1 question in entire mains test..but completed rest .it would hardly matter....but if one is leaving 1-2 questions in each test (say 10 marker)-->6× 10= 60...(inc optional) then it can pull down score a bit.... but again ut depend on how one has dealt with other questions

2.8k views

@Deltathe problem is that we can't compare as 2017 and 18 marking pattern were poles apart, even after leaving 2 questions and 2 substandard answers i got 113 in gs paper 3(2017) but even after writing decent answers and leaving only 1 question that too was able to define and write 3-4 points for a 10 marker,
was able to get 103 marks.
So comparision becomes difficult.

@DeltaIn my opinion there are 3 scenarios.

  1. Solving questions which you know better and leaving others.
    Implication - base will be narrow and hence even after good score in questions you attempted, overall score will be insufficient.
  2. Completing paper at any cost even lowering the quality of presentation or write up in questions we know better.
    Implication - base will be wide but score won't increase.
  3. Solving questions which we know better first and in good presentation style and quality and then completing rest paper without beating around bush directly writing points relevant or what we know even some bakar will help.
    Implication - base will be wide plus good attempt will fetch high plus even average or below average marks in 5-6 questions will increase the score.

@sat_009were u able to complete all questions in all papers?

2.8k views

@ranyo_asokaIn gs paper 1 (yes).
In gs paper 2 (i wrote only 3 lines for us israel question as time was running out, rest completed).
In gs paper 3 (yes except cyberdome, in cyverdome i wrote need for cyber security in 21st century 2 lines plus 5 generic functions of cyberdome without mentioning anything specific i wrote cyberstalking, stakeholder participation, implementation of IT act, will result in national cyber security policy implementation and help cert in which was very far fetched and i am counting it as zero attempt).
In gs paper 4 - was able to complete but the quality of content and handwriting in last quote of kalam is doubtful.
