[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

Because of the corona virus issue? If it does not happen then worst affected will be people whose interview is stuck, around 600-700 such people I think are yet to appear for their interview.

@neyawn sir and others, what is your take?

This is the official Thread for discussion of Prelims Postponement, Please do not create new threads for the same.

NOT CREDIBLE BUT BELIEVABLE SOURCE

prelims date to be announced on 5th june ----prelims to be conducted on 4 OCTOBER 2020.

@TheVillager very true. Mumbai situation is not getting comfortable. Plus, the Education Minister has also asked UGC to not hold final year degree exams. If that doesn't happen, no way any recruitment exam shall be allowed in near future.

@kraantikaari As far as I remember, this date was set for UPSC EPFO exam.
How much do you believe this source?

@Rookie Exactly. And not all aspirants in Mumbai will be able to afford cab services and the government has so far been inefficient with the migrant situation too. So I am not so optimistic about Maharashtra.

@TheVillager very much ....but still considering unpredictability of UPSC , no date could be a surity.

Guys i believe,August should be the ideal period,as UPSC conducted previously.

Oct is sooo farr. No way they will wait so long for one day exams like prelims. Even in Oct things wont be normal in many cities.

If I revise now and if prelims is scheduled around August I would not be able to recollect. If I dont revise now and if Prelims is scheduled in 30days around June 5th, I may not have time to revise then.

Anyone else facing this dilemma?

@Rookie If jee and NEET (which involves more number of students) can be conducted in July itself,  there is no reason why UPSC won’t do the same in July or latest by August

@Messileo  UPSC does not just conduct only prelims

other exams are also due before prelims

@Messileo  i tell you:
1.iit jee mains will take place in around 4-5 days time in multiple shifts so they can deal with the huge numbers . (Not possible in upsc cse)

2. NEET is itself happening in the end of july but the major reason why 2 of these cant be postponed further is that medical and engineering colleges dont have the huge flexibility when it comes to an academic session. They have their academic year planned accordingly and any shift would cause disruption in the whole system for subsequent years ahead.
These are professional courses whose syllabus cant be curtailed unlike graduation courses in the colleges.

UPSC does have this flexibility where even if it conducts the exam in august it wont imapct the academic session due to begin at Lbsnaa next year.

One thing we should consider that UPSC or any competitive examination is currently not a priority for the government and for the public at large so UPSC will conduct exams only when situation normalised in whole country and restrictions are lifted completely. As per current estimate India will have it's peak in July and only after that cases will start to reduce which will take month or two. So UPSC might conduct exams in the month of September.

Peak in July is only a prediction. It can very well be extended to September. Things will not get normalised in near future. So if UPSC waits till things get normalised, it might have to cancel prelims altogether which we know it won’t do. Therefore they might not wait till September and conduct it in the earliest possible date ,probably around 12th July.

@Messileo and those who will be in the home quarantine (as a mandatory 14 day requirement  by some states) on 12th july will give the exam from home ? (Considering many trains are running full and if someone gets reservation towards the end of june)

UPSC is not supposed to wait for things to get normalised! Pockets of infections will keep appearing for months or even years ahead until a large scale vaccination would be done , but instead they will have to wait to get past the peak phase(which most of the countries which saw worst than us like italy have already passed) after which new cases will come down gradually.

@Messileo Yup, 12th July is a real good date if UPSC wants to increase chances of it's aspirants getting infected while also spreading it back to their home states if their centres are in Delhi etc.

Hello all. Let me share with you how things are here in Mumbai. Since Janta Curfew, i.e, from March, there is absolute NO MOVEMENT of Mumbai Local. Ask any Mumbaikar, and s/he will tell you what does it mean to the mobility of this city. My area is a containment zone, and as a result, we are witnessing strict implementation of Lockdown. Two weeks back, we had a positive case in my own housing society, and since then, the main gates of residential complex is sealed. We are allowed only 2 hours in morning for essentials, and after that police volunteers are deployed on my gates to make sure no one goes out. The patrolling vehicle often comes in evening, and they come along with loudspeakers announcing safety measures and other information. And not to mention strict night curfew from 7pm to 7am.

Friends, it's a long battle here in Mumbai. We are loosing unfortunate lifes every day. The hospitals are overburdened with COVID patients. There is extreme shortage of ICU beds, and corona positive patients are loosing valuable time (the initial golden hour) in finding an empty ICU bed. Local administration is completely engaged in Covid- contract tracing, and managing impatient guest workers (aka migrant workers) who just want to go back home.

The city is also far away from community heard immunity. Some say we are still about to witness the peak. Some predict about second wave. I am myself no expert on this. But the situation here is not positive. Even if we have further relaxation in lockdown, the fear of getting infected by the virus will be there. I really can't fathom the fact that how come Delhi mei log bahar aane lag gaye hai. My friends living there say that- "yaha cheeze normal ho rahi h". I mean how come even this is possible? That ugly virus is still there. Khair, it is difficult to predict dates. In this post truth world, every argument looks convincing. Baaki UPSC is supreme, and I hope it will consider the varied impact of this pandemic across the different spectrum of aspirants. Be safe friends. Coz abhi 'jaan hai to jahan hai' superceeds everything.
