[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

Because of the corona virus issue? If it does not happen then worst affected will be people whose interview is stuck, around 600-700 such people I think are yet to appear for their interview.

@neyawn sir and others, what is your take?

This is the official Thread for discussion of Prelims Postponement, Please do not create new threads for the same.

CSAT was really difficult this time. I think there are two factors that validate this

  1. Number of questions in RCs with multiple statements questions are significantly higher this year compared to previous years. Pick up last year's question papers and you will not find many questions with multiple statements. This time there were questions with 4-5 statements. This must have eaten away a lot of time of aspirants who may not be good at reading fast.
  2. Maths and Reasoning portion have become slightly trickier. It is still very basic but many people tend to make silly mistakes in them. This tendency of making silly mistakes is increasing due to time crunch, slight modification in wording of questions (E.g. this time there was 2-generation family problem in which many have made mistakes, even coachings initially gave wrong answer), some people taking it lightly and not practicing it enough, the afternoon timing where you might not be at your best and also the headache from first paper.

@Equalizer bhai but last year also csat was equally tough. Don't you think so?

No. This year was tougher believe me. I can definitely analyse csat better. Never calculated marks in csat. Got 140 in 2016, 133 in 2017, 126 in 2019. But seeing so mant failing I too calculated my marks this year. Getting only 112. I am not representative but this is case with many of my friends who used to score heavily but getting only 100 this year. This year maths were also tricky. So definitely this year was tougher.

funny. i found maths easy this year. i did find RC options a bit tough

vry true.....nd overall I think CSAT was easier thn last year

May be u r right. But don't u think more people failing this year in csat. How u explain this.

I am noticing since last 6 years tht evry year people says this time more people are failing in csat and in 2016-17 I got 100+ easily tht time also no. of people said csat was very tough..... beleive me there is no. of fake people who jst to shw off says I am clearing in paper 1 but csat ruined it ....less thn 1% people who are passing in 1st papr nd failing in 2nd papr so i think this not a major factor in deciding the cut off.....

One hour in to paper 2, i was just sitting idly.

Invigilator: why are not solving your paper.

Me: I solved enough.

Invigilator: But this is the toughest exam. You shouldn't waste any time.

Solved a few RCs to get her to chill.

RCs were lengthy not difficult. If you attempt RC first, it can mess up your paper.

Hi guys

I have a query.

My GS answer booklet was Set D & CSAT answer booklet was Set A (I.e both do not match) because invigilator distributed it wrongly.

Is this thing need to worry about?

If yes, what is the remedy?

I always start with RC nd keep in mind tht I have to complete this section in 45 mnts....nd I assume that 5 to 10 question will get wrong In any case so rather going into vry deep I jst try to cmplt RC....Ya I agree tht in last two year RC get more difficult in nature but if u already practiced RC of last 2-3 year u'll get an idea tht hw to attempt RC and hw much score it will fetch to u....

again this is myth there is no role of attendance in this exam nd I dont think corona affected upsc aspirants .... People jst want to bring cut off down anyhow but seriously this is like jst "mann behlane wali chij"....I hardly seen more thn 50% attendance in this exam....corona give lot of time to study so by this logic cut off shud go high... I knw no. of stdnts who were praying for postponement of the exam nd they took advantage also by studying 10hrs daily but again this year papr balanced the equation....

I think Insights may have some friend as Section officer.thats why they posted this ...I think and wish this comes true...Result Oct 25-27

Mains markshet declaration has only one conclusion that nobody knows what's happening inside upsc

Jiska accha gaya hai woh bolega cutoff zyada jayega, jiska accha nahin gaya woh bolega cutoff will reduce. The person scoring high wants to believe that he/she is in a good position and that others are out of the race. The person scoring low will want to believe that cutoff will be low and hence he/she will make it through. And then each will try to find out and put forward arguments to prove their beliefs.

Everyone has deep entrenched biases, but sadly won't matter a penny at the end.

@Karen_kv no issues if you bubbled respective booklet in your examination OMR sheet.

@prachimalik1121311 The answer for this question is ' 3 and 4 ' only . Growth rate indeed decreased in rural India. See the Niti aayog doc.
