@rockhard i wrote about being proactive as well as not doing some things too early as it might be counterproductive …wait for right time…then i focused on importance of favourable conditions , how to identify favourable conditions and whether it is right to wait for favourable conditions always
toh mera pura essay was on doing right things at right time..hahaha

@Kenshein My best wishes to you.I pray it improves this year .A 10 to 20 marks boost in essay matters a lot in the end.

In part A I wrote on " Ships are safe in harbour but that is not ships are built for"

Scientific and romanticism one is also a good topic to bring many arguments n discussion.

Quite impressive. You seems to be experienced candidate. What did you attempt in part A. I attempted  topic 3 history scientific and romanticism.

My score in essay has been consistent on 109 marks (2020, 2021). Hope it improves this year.

same, rationality and romanticism was full of content with no ambiguity in core demand. i defined the 2 terms before itself

Ppl who wrote Scientific man victory over romantic man question ,if possible pls share the dimensions

I wrote on the following lines:

Started with curiosity quote ,defined Scientific and romantic terms

Then started saying how first humans worshipped thunder etc later on became evolved with ideas of fire and wheel in Neolithic revolution and mentioned it as first victory

Continued with ancient period Scientific achievements of charaka , Aryabhatta etc

Then came to Medieval age ,church vs Science Darwin galileo heresy etc as Second victory

Then finally something about Modern age : Industrial revolution, enlightenment

A small para on scientific woman ,how they broke traditional roles

Penultimate para Balancing view by saying EQ is as much important as IQ etc

In conclusion ended with a MLK Jr quote , ethical and sustainable science as way forward

 Major Cons :

underlined over excessively ruining presentation at the end

Structure could have been arranged better'

wrote in headings (dimensions) and thesis (3/4 dimensions) and anti thesis (1 or 2). everything from rrmr, einstein(quote in starting, no anecdote in any essay), buddha, mahabharata (romanticism consequence, losing what remains hatinapur) etc is covered.

why romanticism is needed is written

pre conclusion: panchpran in this essay somewhere was inserted

apada me avasar in next essay was included.

i have to look up what exactly i wrote.

@Street_lamp started with quote of martin luther king junior "our scientific power now has over taken our spiritual power. we have guided missiles and misguided men " (because i planned to invert the topic in the later half and i did)
then began with how thousands years ago we associated lightening and thunder with god's act, cut to 2022 world leaders discussing artificial intelligence.
then gave examples how Indians were obsessed about religion but Europeans due to renaissance had scientific temper and over powered us..then some literal interpretation how battles were won by people had artillery than who fought with bows and swords etc etc.. how then industrial revolution brought changes ....
then i inverted it the topic and highlighted how scientific revolution brought with it atom bombs and inequalities and social upheaval and all...how it is important to not part with romanticism, spiritualism totally..to conclude i wrote about how scientists have also romanticized their scientific victories ..Oppenheimer said about atomic bomb "now i am bcm death , the destroyer of the world" romanticizing the godly power ( bhagavat geeta. )

in 2021 i wrote my first essay on " The process of self-discovery has now been technologically outsourced." in sec A. The essay was in line with the explanations that floated in market by coaching institutes.
My second essay was about "
Hand that rocks the cradle rules the world." where I wrote 10 pages in which I dedicated 1.5 page just to explain my interpretation of the essay. And I didn't even considered the dimension of "role of a mother" in my entire essay( at that time I was wondering that, its not just the role of a mother to rock the cradle, and I might look like a person who is patriarchal ....weird but such thoughts do come when essay papers have all the topics that are just way too unconventional.)
I discussed my second essay with my senior after mains. He said that if there is a quote which is said for a specific purpose and you try to drift away from it, no matter what you write and how brilliantly you try to explain your interpretation, you will be heavily penalised.
My essay score in 2021 was 58
116 in 2019, 120 in 2020
Given that , 2021 was the first time I joined a test series for essay writing, wrote more than 20 essays beforehand, worked on my content, had a group of friends to discuss and improvise my structure...in short I really work hard on my essay in 2021..but still it was 58
So all I can say is that, until and unless you are extremely lucky, and examiner is a person with an open mind, expect poor marks for an essay that's drifts apart from actual interpretation of the quote known to the examiner.
Above that, I much I know, before checking our booklets, examiners are briefed about every topic, marking scheme etc. etc...so they already have a structure in mind and evaluate our essays based on that. SOme might take the pain to understand your view point, but that's rare...so all the best.
And about every section being checked by a different examiner, I never paid attention to the last page in my previous attempt but  a friend of mine said that after every question number, there is a column for marks and signature of the examiner, which proves that different examiners check our copies. Though this time I checked the same but there was no separate column for signature...but I assume it is being checked by different people.

Did anyone choose topic 1 in part A (Forests are the best case studies for economic excellence) and topic 7 in part b (A smile is the chosen vehicle for all ambiguities)?

By the discussion in the thread, it seems like the ship in harbour and step twice in the river topics were quite popular.

@iceblock i wrote on the "forest" topic. Divided my essay into two interpretations- first one was about how a country is utilising and preserving forests, taking care of all the stakeholders in the forests, determine its economic excellence( 5 pages)- wrote about MFP, ecotourism, forest based industries etc, etc
next 5 pages about how economies can learn from forest ecosystems to achieve economic excellence- recycling resources, taking care of every stakeholder..something on that line..a sort of comparison between forest and economy

Introduced with samrat prithviraj approached war as romance leading to destruction of his empire.(first and second battle of tarain) . Contrary to chatrapatti shivaji approach of war as science leading to establishment of maratha empire.

Explained scientific and romanticism term in detail.

Gave example of victory of science over romance( Galileo and church, capitalist vs communism, Ukraine abandoning nuclear weapon- Russia invasion, homi Bhabha vs nehru on nuclear weapon, some more example )

Reverse the topic. Gave example of victory of romance over science.( bhagat singh and revolutionaries, gandhiji, Socrates, some more example)

Martin Luther King junior quote our scientific power has outrun spiritual power. We have guided missile and misguided men ex: fritz habert ( chemical weapon) Dr A Q khan nuclear weapon

Concluded with Einstein quote on religion and science. Romanticism and science not contradictory but complimentary in nature. Pope quote on science. Mutual co existence

I think most of history optional candidate might have chosen this topic. But one needs to exercise caution  before approaching such topic from only historical view point.

@RegistaniOonth I don't know what went wrong with the essay but cant blame entirely on interpretation.
Interpretation can be blamed upon if it's totally unrelated to the topic.
I too wrote Hands that rocked the cradle rule the world.I only mentioned mother once that means 0.5 pages out of 11 .Moreover,my first essay went bad.
Got 119 though its average.
Its a curious case - why they gave 58.

@RegistaniOonth very well put. what you said makes sense and you have had first hand experience as well. In the end we can only hope and pray that our essays get checked with the intention and lens we wrote it with. :)

last time i used 2-3 dimensions based on my optional knowledge. it backfired leaving abysmal score of 108. this time i actively was wary of keeping it as lukewarm as i could

i wrote WW quote of einstein and not mlk quote. too many quotes in an essay seem like escapist mindset. although this quote didnt strike me mind then

So you are suggesting that using concepts of optionals is not a good idea?

So you are suggesting that using concepts of optionals is not a good idea?

Yes that’s one of the cardinal sins I learnt.

examiner may feel like that you are showing off on the wrong day.

Some toppers (Example: Ira Singhal Ma'am) also in the past highlighted this issue where the examiner may give you less marks for showing off your optional knowledge in the essay.
