[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

Because of the corona virus issue? If it does not happen then worst affected will be people whose interview is stuck, around 600-700 such people I think are yet to appear for their interview.

@neyawn sir and others, what is your take?

This is the official Thread for discussion of Prelims Postponement, Please do not create new threads for the same.

If with any key you are getting >85 then stop worrying about CSAT
The passage section is more or less same like Shankar's except where shankar used 2 answers for 8 questions.
Yup fraction wala also wrong there

My Final SPECULATION ABOUT CUTOFF:

Gen Cutoff - 96-98 max

OBC - 94-96 max

EWS - 92-94 max

SC/ST- Below 83

WITH UPSC ANSWER KEY,  not any Coaching Key. Expect atleast 2-3 answer variations in final key from ANY COACHING KEY.

SO anyone scoring above 90 in Gen from any key, above 85 for ews/obc and above 78 for SC/ST... MUST START PREPARING FOR MAINS. Otherwise you may regret one month later.  👍😊❤️

Best Wishes. Ye apun ka first and final official prediction h after watching market trends for 2 3 days.

Please DON'T PM. UPSC UNPREDICTABLE h. It's merely my self assessment cum Speculation.

#HumHongeKamyaabEkDin

#Sharing_is_Caring

Mine

General 92 to 94

OBC 90 to 92

EWS 91 to 93

SC/ST below 82.

Anybody with above 90 should prepare for mains rationally. However humans are anything but rational.

Can't be sure at what settings UPSC sets the software and which software they use

But it can give you little idea

I myself being in zone of uncertainty did the same mistake but the bubble was filled nearly 50 percent starting from outside.

With reference to carbon nanotubes, consider the following statements:
1. They can be used as carriers of drugs and antigens in the human body.
2. They can be made into artificial blood capillaries for an injured part of human body.
3. They can be used in biochemical sensors.
4. Carbon nanotubes are biodegradable.
Which of the statements given above are correct?
a) 1 and 2 only
b) 2, 3 and 4 only
c) 1, 3 and 4 only
d) 1, 2, 3 and 4

Friends, any link, source, reference for using carbon nanotubes as artificial blood capillaries? I got nothing even on searching specifically for it.

@Rangeela  can confirm its use in blood vessels recovery in brain atleast. (Have read research papers on it in college way back in 2017).

Also, from a non-science candidate perspective, the upsc question asks "can be" (a broad perspective). So 100% sure on this one.

Regarding vertical farming, 90% sure it's again ALL of them (10% if UPSC bewafa nikle toh). Vertical farming is criticized for its intensive energy needs but once you replace those energy needs from fossils to renewables it becomes highly favorable (which is why it's being pushed forward these days). Also do look at the "eco-friendly" term that BROADLY subsumes not just energy but water needs and nutrients availability and other stuff etc.

For non-science candidate, upsc mostly takes a broad view in applications question. And obviously this rule DOESN'T apply to all of science questions this time. eg. AI question. (There shouldn't be so much confusion on this one, the question asks "with present state of development" and "effective use", wireless communication is plain wrong ( it would have been correct if question asks possible use of AI in future).. We can keep debating about its efficacy in creating MEANINGFUL songs and movies but we do have examples of failed attempts like "sunspring short film 2016"  and last year I remember that Batman script trained by AI was hilariously incoherent ). So instead of reading between the lines in answer options we have to actually see the question carefully and most importantly the INTENT of the examiner while setting such question. Not going to debate btw on this. People can differ, I understand.

@AbhishekV Thanks for being patient and replying yaar. My only insecurity is that what if there is a very high discrepancy between csat key of CL and upsc but in almost all maths and reasoning qs my answers are correct but the fear of discrepancy in passage is killing me. Still I think that any hig discrepancy can't be more than that of 8-9 marks or is it possible?

Emphasis on point effectively and at the current level of development means all are not correct. If they had asked simply possible use, all may have been possible.

thanks buddy. 2.6 is a lot when on border.
i did read the same thing but it gives the software sellers view. upsc can go strict or easy. cant say. wish some insider/governemt worker could also clarify this. hopefully they are lenient in these matters. so tensed. but considering it wrong anyways.

This is just a humble post requesting everyone to resist themadness

Before I get to the actual point, I agree that the exam shattered the hopes of many honest UPSC aspirants. I think we deserved it since we all are responsible for making it a mindless game. Regarding the question paper, I don't have anything to say, since there is no definite syllabus it will always be unpredictable. But I am concerned about how/what we have become in the process.

Unfortunately, including myself, I found the average aspirant wasn't peaceful in the forums/channels for the last couple of months (or more?).

I think it's time we should realize how we are part of this spectacular comedy by

  • Glorifying the preparation and spending years of our time.

You might be tempted to say that with years of preparation, we become more sane, intellectual, or rational. Maybe that's true but what about the anxiety, fear, and the funny speculations. I don't think these raw emotions ever subside. Pride is pointless to even if it about gaining knowledge. Many of us have to get out of this limbo.

  • Complicating the process by relying on compilations, every topper's gyaan, and too many mocks.
  • Leaving the job.

Remember that you are bound to be tensed and make mistakes when the livelihood/future depends only on one thing i.e., an exam with an unpredictable process which involves prelims demanding smart elimination, mains with manual correction, and interviews which can't be 100% unbiased.

Can we make this journey sweet and breezy? Probably yes, by

  • Not leaving the jobs.
  • Preparing for 2-4hours only but consistently for a year.
  • Not glorifying the preparation process.
  • Realizing that it is just an exam that recruits only 1000 members/year. Attempting other recruiting exams as well if interested.
  • Not forgetting that the final exam also wants you to be cool as a cucumber.

Obviously, the above won't apply if you are an extra-ordinary mind and can stay peaceful even during an apocalypse. This is for average aspirants like me.

Finally, keep it simple silly.

PS: This would be my final post/ranting in the forum. Thanks to all the beautiful souls who have been helping others to be cheerful/peaceful or sharing notes/important-topics/analysis, I sincerely bow to all of them for making this world a better place.

couldn't agree more. Finally some sane words amidst this chaos of cut off, answer keys, marks. And this is exactly what I realised after loosing too much in this random process called upsc exam. I would have been in a better position had i not been this mad after this exam and I should have known that life doesn't depend on one exam. There is so much more to life. Should have known that this exam could have been tackled alongside job. I decided to give it full time. Lost my job, lost my friends, lost social life, lost health, lost confidence and the respect that I had for myself and ultimately lost my mind in this random process. There is so much that this exam can take away from you and give you nothing tangible in return. This year's prelims was an eye opener in many ways and infact this year itself as an eye opener and I totally resonate with what you have said and have decided to recover all what I have lost and not give too much to this exam and I will just do the bare minimum for this exam and this what I think it deserves and not let it destroy my life anymore. I simply can't let some random process to destroy my life.
