Now that 1 week is over, it is time to shift focus to Mains. With barely 103 days left there is no time to waste.

I havent skipped a single question plus as far as I know havent written any dummy answers other than cyberdome and optional has gone well.
@ManchesterUnitedsuit silvaoo
@paranthapijjaPrelims discussion was hilarious here!
I was scoring 120-130 from various keys but by looking at analysis here had serious doubts on clearing!

@dr-ahmednaaz8567Yeah even I think that in "Do you agree" kind of questions where the question demands that you take an YES or NO stand... it's better to take a stand and justify it. Maybe at the end we can write a small para about the validity of the opposite stand too just to show that we have thought about the opposing view too.
Guys, take a look at the good copies, and decipher this. I have been seeing this for 10 years now . It was Anay Dwivedi who first put in public domain the idea that people have to write both sides, and ut has actually yielded the results.
By writing balanced answer does not ean taking a middle stand alone. If a do you agree question is asked , you first write why that question is asked , the arguments "why some people think so and so". Then in the second part of the answer, write whatever view you agree to. Makes more sense. I closely watch these things in the Mains exam, and its co-relation in the score, so I can tell this to you with confidence.
Also, people who have followed a Yes/ No approach have written Mains next year and made improvements to the score.

Starting on a cynical note..
One need not be too concerned about line by line accuracy in upsc mains.
It's good to have perspective on what we wrote and what could be done better.. but losing minds over such finer details is not worth it.There are instances in past in my group where people who wrote biodiversity act and Sendai /hyogo (p3 last year , I guess) very accurately ended up getting 80s in that paper . At the same time..people who wrote pretty generic even by standards of GS got good marks.
I'm not encouraging complacency here. A couple of weeks back people started losing their minds after seeing couple of well written answers and things went beserk. All I'm saying is.. it's okay to discuss stuff..but lets not lose faith in what we have written. Let's be optimistic . I guess it's the only way we can be at peace till results.

No that is not unsolicited gyan. That is a good observation. See this.

This is the screenshot of Crazyphoton aka Gaurav Agg shared with me by Prajit Nair. These are old forum members who have secured Rank 1 and 87 or so in CSE, and why it matters is because they were not first timers. They learned through more than one Mains.
This is something that you will learn with a few Mains experience, when you are actively working to improve scores. Since reliable people have put this, we can safely believe them.

@Neyawnthanks for the clarification.. actually the debate was about the GS1 question about the " causes of food processing being more successful in north west india"..How far do you think one who wrote about states like gujarat and maharastra by including them in north west india is going to lose ?
@utkarsh_mishra
If he has also mentioned punjab, haryana raj not much, otherwise would cost him dearly as it would be a factual error, which examiner construe as bluff...
@dr-ahmednaaz8567yeah...that's what i think too.
@utkarsh_mishrajab add hi karna hai to Kashmir bhi add kar do tum log,aur UP,Bihar bhi tanik,aura maja aayega
@sat_009what score u r expecting or hv calculated based on ur experience..
All GS 1,2,3,4
That's what i was trying to explain here when i put my marksheet of2017.KiI attempted average 14-15 questions and got 90s in all papers.
So u don't need to worry line by line each question in mains.
Jo pucha hai wo bata do,points mein likh do,kuch examples daal do aur kuch questions mein intro aur conclusion likh do.Bas.
It all depends on optional and essay.
Notice: I have'nt done any answer writing either in 2017 or in this attempt.Let's see what happens
@HaeckelHaan bhai bata do.Hume bhi kuch idea mile kya number aa sakte hain humare..
Can somebody who has experience of 2017, 2018 and 2019 mains shed some light on comparative levels of difficulty and marking pattern for successive years. What did a good, and an average answer fetch in previous two years? What's the relative difficulty level of GS papers in these years or so.
I had appeared in 2017, found questions of GS2 and GS3 on a slightly difficult level to answer vis-a-vis 2017. It was easier to write a good looking answer in 2017 than 2019, especially in GS2. Don't know about 2018.
Anybody please?@kuttabhai, Have you appeared in 2018 as well ?

points for parliamentarian decline :p..jis to end north east south etc
