Now that 1 week is over, it is time to shift focus to Mains. With barely 103 days left there is no time to waste.

Seeing about move on to next tasks at hand...

i personally feel, this is the only time we have to connect to our social life. While we keep running like a horse with blinders round the year focussing on pre, mains etc, life isn't that way for our non-upsc mates. Knowingly or unknowingly we distance ourselves from people , and many times we fail to realize it.

This is the best time to mend our personal relationships, fill those voids.

Funny thing is three of my friends got dumped by their girl friends , at this point last year. Though they suffered hell initially , on hind sight , they felt grateful for their exes, who did it at a right time, so that they got the time to heal and didnt terribly screw their further attempts☺

May be this is the best time to evaluate our non-upsc life all together

Has anyone shared this ? Vivek Katju agrees with us. I think he has been seen in interview panels too.

I am of the extreme opinion that if we do not address the needs of the question, however eloquent the answer may otherwise be, we get 0 marks. The answers need to be very very specific. If your content isn't rich after addresing the question, you will definitely get some marks if not a whole lot. And after scaling(in case of optionals) who knows how much those few marks will be worth ?

@ChampakI was really shocked to see that question, attempted it in the end because of its sensitivesness, just wrote secularism definition. Not expecting anything from this question. Could've been framed in a better manner. Also it puts secularism in negative light. Vivek katju is on the money in his article.

@Champakwhat I feel is that if we hit the question along with substantiating it with data, arguments etc along with good introduction and conclusion that deserves 55% marks, average answer without data and arguments will get 30-40% marks and namesake answers will just give 10-20% marks. 0 will be awarded in rare case.

@ChampakWriting very specific, very detailed or technical aspects doesnt get rewarded it has been experience of many including gaurav agrawal,
baki aap apne opinion ke liye free hai and i respect your opinion,
but general studies answer should be presented well but with general writing

@hirockyrocks7101Since it asked our culture, I mentioned cultural practices of all religions. HIndus festivities in conflict with environemntal ethical values like noise and water pollution issues, and muslims practices also being in conflict with modern secular humanitarian values (not harming animals). Gave some optimistic conclusion.

@vvvikas0078212Don't get me wrong bhai, but in the name of secularism was asked and ethical and environmental aspects are quite different, it was definitely a tricky question. Even those who've written about sabrimala have deviated as it was famous for gender empowerment and women rights. Triple talaq and namaz ban on roads could've been written but with utmost care since this topic was quite sensitive and any mistake can make a bad impression.

@hirockyrocks7101I know. I did mention those issues too, but not in depth. When we mention secularism, we also broadly talk about constitutional morality. Environmental values are also referred as secular values. baki I addressed few other things also without making answer too much controversial.

@Champakin my opinion we can get 0 fir bad answer and 15 for perfect answer , ab ye depnd krta h kitno m 15 ayga ya 12 ya 11ya 9/8/ or 0/1 and moderation hoti hai fir, koi teacher 15 jyada die hoga to unke highest 150+ gye hnge, and kisi k 110 and thn moderation se uper niche kia jata hai, tbhi log shock bhi hojate h ki acha nhi hua tha itna fir b jyada numbr agye
ye abh maine gs k ppr ka bola,
coz moderation is a rule, its a process for intra paper parity, ek examinr bs 250 se 300 he check kr skta h

Defined equidistant model of Indian secularalism
Art 25(2)-State powers for socio-cultural reforms
Wrote sabarimala,bohra muslim girl genital mutilation,triple talaq--State mending cultural practices on touchstone of human dignity

@vvvikas0078212that's good then.
But when we say that secularism in general and Indian secularism in particular poses a threat to our cultural practices, it certainly is a negative statement. In Western secularism context it could certainly have been asked like threat to Islamic culture.. Burqa or sikh culture.. Turban or even festivals, but Indian secularism is a pure concept and widest of all. Even in paper 2 has made it clear that France can learn a lot from Indian secularism.

plus its highly objectionable if kisi ne 250 words m sari demand puri ki ho n 15 na mile, upsc court cases mein dikhati hai answer copy, n waha use prove krna mushkil hoskta hai, ye to coaching wala highest 120s mein dekh k rule bna lete h ki 7 se uepr nhi dene 15 mein se, and 4/5 best answer k lie 10mein se

so raw marks can be 180/250 ya 150/250 but apne ko moderated dikhte h gs mein

@hirockyrocks7101Yes. In purely that context, answer negative lagta. So I tried to give a little positive spin.

@vvvikas0078212hopefully that will work.

@hirockyrocks7101This time GS1 had too much social issues. Geography optional ka bhi advantage nhi mila.

4.8k views

@vvvikas0078212geography questions were more than social issues’ questions as far as I know.

@vvvikas0078212bhai 100 marks of geography was asked, predominantly human geography. This much weightage wasn't given to geography in 2017 or 2018 as far as I remember. Plus history questions both modern and world history ones were easy as compared to 2018 or 2017.
