How much of variation did you see in actual marksheet from your expected conservative marks?

What/How are you improving on since then?

All the best

I have written 5 mains so far..

GS1 and GS4 are always less than expected for me. GS2 and GS3 are usually as expected.

Essay ..my first attempt (2017), i expected 150 , as i believed i wrote  really good essays on agriculture and women(good old days , where no mandatory philosophical topics are there). I got 110, while top score that year is 175. There after my essays got stagnant in range of 125-130, which are more or less on expected lines.

With respect to improvement, my GS and essay scores are almost similar from my 2nd attempt, irrespective of all the value additions, answer writing practice etc etc. Average marks in GS2 and GS3, below average in GS1 and GS4 .

If my optional clicks..i used to get interview call or if it tanks i couldn't clear mains. And i could never predict my optional score since it's humanities. It fell down from 280(2018) to 210 (2019) to 250(2020)

With increasing attempts the variation between your expectations and actual scores reduce, atleast for GS. Optional tho.. Only God knows .πŸ˜‚

Tina dabi mam scored 145 in essays in that paper matlab logo ko mile he achche number essay me agar achcha essay likha he to.

all I'm saying is essay screw karoge to 45 number bhi mil sakte he 250 me se koi sympathy marks are grace marks nahi milte, it's purely on basis of your content quality that's it.

@GOT8 thank you so much for your comment. But it is okay. I have already started preparing for 2022.. and by keeping my hopes low, I will be better able to cope up the failure. And by god's grace if I qualify then I will  be overjoyed!

Scores usually varies depend on scaling in that year..hence i can't put a number as it's going to be misleading.

For me.

Average =( general trends of scores in  top 200 people )- 10 marks.. For example...in 2020.
Eg: gs2 last year, many selected people got in range of 105-120,  i got 98 or 99, then it's average.

Below average = ( general trends of scores in  top 200 people )- 20 marks.
Eg: My ethics in 2019 is 118, where as most of selected folks got in 140s.its below average.

It's purely subjective. Others may have different opinions.
I just pitched in this Gyan..as I'm also bored waiting for results πŸ˜€ so take it lite.

Regarding optional, it depends on how one manages time, his mental health between pre and mains , how much value he wants to add etc etc. I mean if one is preparing full-time, 3-4 months are decent enough to add value for optional notes.

right right

thanks for analysis

how did you find this year papers of gs 2 and 3 specifically?

did you attempt all questions ?

and what is your take on checking pattern if upsc. are they liberal and exercise some forbearance in questions which are clearly unknown to majority?

asking this because you have given so many mains so this situation must have arisen at some point. by looking at your marks later on you must reached at some conclusion as far as checking is concerned.
