CSE 2021: Plan / Strategy / Daily Routine

Hello 2021 aspirants. I thought it would be nice if we can share what we are doing and intend to do with one another here.

This could be a thread for discussing everything prep for 2021.

No one method fits all but to see the plans and progress made by fellow aspirants might help with the finer details of preparation and also keep one on track.

@sstarrr  thanks, I'm finding civilsdaily website useful for getting subtopics. U can see insights secure compilation too.

Check this link for gs3

https://www.civilsdaily.com/gspaper/paper3/

So I make a list for the coming week and try to finish as much as possible. U can Add/delete the topics depending upon current needs. This is my list for the week and I finished only some 12 topics.

My suggestion for knowing what to cover from each subject/paper is to go through the previous year questions. Categorize them according to which paper it is and under which sub-heading it would come from. Do this yourself instead of relying on compilations by various institutes. This way you'll start to have some ideas on what are the kind of questions that are being asked and what the demands of the questions are. Once you do this, when you start to see various editorials, articles etc. you'll start to slowly see what kind of points to take from them and what kind of editorials you need to read and which ones you need to ignore. Also be sure to be Mains ready this time. That is, finish your optional completely, and do GS 1, 2 and 3 (the static portions and the basic fodder notes). Also practice answer writing. I think it's more crucial to be mains ready this time than the previous years since there is only around 2.5 months between Prelims and Mains. That's 1 whole month less than usual. That 1 month difference will feel like a 6 month difference at that time if you don't compensate for that now itself.

i have seen mrunal long time back for conceptual clarity and nt following these days. my advice si take notes even if its simple 3-4 lines in ur own words & examples from mrunal videos. Follow a single book either ramesh singh(selective topics) or shankar ganesh(it uses simple language). most important for economy is eco survey&budget, current affairs and good understanding of concepts.

I have also heard that Shankar Ganesh is very nice for conceptual clarity and making a good base for Economy. And I concur with you here too that Economic Survey and current developments in Economic sector are most important for our exam particularly Mains. The articles of Yojana magazine are very much relevant, too.

So if I shall have to re-strategise, seeing mrunal videos for understanding and scribbling along and then following a book ,either selectively or completely shall help.

I guess this can be done and I was also thinking to follow a book but on a shortage of time.

Next task is to choose a book,

So, Ramesh Singh as@Gaurav has said is a good one. And so are 1. Sanjeev Verma 2. Shanker Ganesh 3. Vivek Singh and Sriram'S IAS economy printed notes.

If you have come across these books, can you please help me with the choice? I want a book with easy to understand language, I think Sriram'S has not that easy language and Ramesh Singh is a bulky book (people say if you don't have economics as optional, then go for other options).

I think you are writing this to@Vinay12, aren't you? Anyway, if asking me- Yes, you are correct Ramesh Singh is a bit vast, Sriram's language is not that simple (concluded from the little portion for which I referred to it), Sanjeev Verma is not sufficient alone being very thin book and so is Shankar Ganesh which is largely recommended as a basic book I mean not an advanced one. hmm Let Vinay tell which one he will recommend. :) Meanwhile, just have a look at the below mentioned book which I don't think would be bad in all probability and which I feel will serve the purpose well. Not recommending but just asking you to explore it a bit.

Indian Economy by Nitin Singhania

@adivasi  i read ramesh singh book in my first attempt. i too felt it was bulky and nt able to revise in the last minute. but it was worth the effort. nw i dont actually read it bcoz my concepts are clear and i read shankar ganesh to revise the concepts.  and i havent read other books so no opinion on that. For a first timer (given the time period october )and to be a civil servant, my personal opinion is u hve to go beyond shankar ganesh book.

if u r gng to cover public finance in a day - see mrunal videos and read the chapter from ramesh singh -it will take time but still do it. (take a day to see wat works for u).  or read a chapter from any of those books to decide.

Mrunal/Ramesh singh/shankar ganesh is only foundation part, u have to read CA, eco survey subsequently for sure. hope it helps.

@gaurav its she

@Vinay12 this does help. Thank you. I am glad that this platform is there to discuss such things in details.

Also, Since you have ben preparing for Economy sub topic wise, I will recommend a to watch a Mains strategy Video (21 minutes) by Vivek singh. He has discussed subtopics too. In the description of the video, there is a link for the same pdf which he has used in the video. It may be of help to you.
