What will happen with Pre2021..I know serious ones should not think about this... But uncertainty is painful both psychologically and for study plans.. Need some vibes from senior players

If situation continues to be grim,then,i think prelims 2021 will get postponed

Pre is postponed for sure. No way upsc would conduct pre before declaring results. Further interviews can't be wrapped up in a hurry as they would have to increase panels for that which is unlikely. Expect a postponement henceforth

Expected postponement of how many days? What will be the best strategy in meantime considering 2021 pre and mains? Any one can shed some light on it?

In the event pre is postponed and assuming many other factors(like this 2nd wave is short run only, etc), going by UPSC calendar https://www.upsc.gov.in/sites/default/files/Rev-ExamCal-2021-Engl-090321R.pdf, next available free slots are on

1. 04-07-2021(possibly ruled out as its only one week from original date),

2. 29-08-2021

3. 12-09-2021.

PS: The postponed prelims-2020 was also conducted on one such free/RT slot(Oct 4) in 2020 original calendar https://www.upsc.gov.in/sites/default/files/ExamCal-2020-Engl-030619.pdf

It is postponed I feel.

The logic--->

UPSC in its notice says that new dates will be given with a notice of 15 days period. Going by this, Even if they come up with the dates by 25th April(Which is highly unlikely), they cannot start the interviews before 10th May.

The previous interview schedule had the last interview on 18th June. There is no way they can start on 10th May and end interviews on 18th June.

Reason-->

The previous dates were 26th April to 18th June, i.e.- 53 days. If the same timeline is applied, It takes us to 3 July for interview dates.

Coming to the question of what if results after prelims. Highly unlikely since the exam is a limited attempt based on one and a person's result very much determines him/her taking or skipping the next attempt. Results post prelims will hamper the decision making in this crucial aspect.

Now the question of dates--

The next available free slots are on

1. 04-07-2021(most probably interviews will be going on),

2. 29-08-2021

3. 12-10-2021.

Maybe 2nd or 3rd date.

Or, UPSC may completely throw a bouncer at us and conduct interviews Swiftly and prelims be on 27th or max to max 04th of July.

@SergioRamos Thats called a diplomatic answer:) And yes Pre cannot be scheduled before result because then All India Services Toppers would have appeared for Pre exam and it will dilute equality of opportunity

Somewhere in one of the previous threads, I have commented something similar in 2020 April itself. Life is funny! XDD

Any idea about the gap between prelims and mains if prelims is postponed by 2-3 weeks? I hope they don't reduce it further from 80days

 Also, anyone planning to resume their mains prep? I've physics optional and can't really sit back and keep on preparing for prelims till the final date is published. Did the same last year and paid the price of low mains practice. Any inputs?

It'll be my second attempt.

I am also planning to start mains, but don't know wht if pre is not postponing

@Curious_souls it must be before CSE 2021 prelims. Last year also UPSC pushed EPFO for CSE 2020 prelims (4th oct'20). High chances of scheduling  It in middle of interview dates or when situation will be little bit better.
(Expecting it in mid June-early July dates)

🤞

Is there any possibility that prelims is not postponed? I wasn't looking at any of this until the UPSC itself pushed out the notification!! Why the heck they couldn't be more clear in it regarding prelims!! What the heck is other recruitment tests!!

Mostly a silent reader but this reminded me of April-May 2020 discussions here about prelims being postponed, the trends happening, so many speculations etc . Had never thought that they will make a comeback :)
