Hi,
Ranyo Ashoka, Himalayan nettle, Denisovan - Who would have thought of such random questions?
Creating this thread with the sole purpose of sharing facts that can be relevant for Prelims. While there is always this thought, that there is no end to learning and mugging up facts, but if we observe closely - the options are not very close and elimination is easy. By pooling our resources here, if we give it one reading also, the probability of retaining it on the D day and eliminating options increases exponentially.
I request the aspirants to actively contribute here and let's hope that we strike gold on 31st ;).
Which of the below given statement(s) is)are correct?1. Major ports come under the exclusive jurisdiction of Central Government whereas non major ports under the respective State governments.2. All the 12 major ports are governed under the Indian Ports Act, 1908A. 1 onlyB. 2 onlyC. Both 1 and 2D. Neither 1 nor 2
C. Both are Correct as major port is in union list. So under central govt. And 2nd statement is Correct too.
Counter qn:
Is this statement Correct or wrong? : All the 13 major ports are governed under the major Ports trust Act 1963.
Consider the following statements regarding Kolar Leaf nosed bat1. It is widely distributed in Western Ghats2. It is critically endangered species according to IUCN Red list3. It is protected under schedule 1 of wildlife protection actA 1 and 2 onlyB. 2 onlyC. 1, 2 and 3D . 1 and 3 only
How can we solve this if havnt heard abt the creature in qn?

For me the way is to mug up CR mammals, birds, reptiles, fishes. This is very useful as you can eliminate an option or be sure that this toh is right only.
While I am a little imperfect at recalling everything, mammals I can recall easily. And the list of mammals I mugged up doesnt contain this bat. And I would have made it wrong. This was in news in late 2020. So, current.
Done the same for CR species. I don't remember reading it in vision either. Koi nahi...adding to notes. End end tak 'comprehensive' notes hi banate rehna hai. *Laughs at own helplessness*

1. says its WIDELY distributed in WG and 2. says its critically endangered. The two seem contradictory. I would work with that in exam but I had also read about this species so I knew the answer and maybe feel more confident in attempting it than I would in actual exam.

1. Answer is b . Right?
I read about this species.
Edit : I was about to search the species in my notes and now I am unable to find my notes. So many notes for prelims. Sigh Sigh!!! Dhudna padega.

some creatures are named with the areas & vegetation they live ..
Kolar (i remembered by KGF movie) + western ghats spread over KA
Nilgiri , Gangetic Dolphin
Himalayan Snow Leopard , Himalayan Bears , Kashmiri Stag ..
Gir Lion , Bengal Tigers etc..

That's right.
But you see you don't always find them only in the places mentioned. Prime being bengal tigers.
Similarly Nilgiri tahr - found in kerala, karnataka and Tn as well.
Gir lion - although abhi found in gujrat but there was news about introducing it in MP. So, this trick does not always work.
But its workable most of the times and could be a good way to guess.

I think this is something which will not work always. Like widely saying then probably all won't think it in numerical way rather I would think it as geographically widely distributed which is possible in lot of the CR species.

And thank God for that. Agar tricks 100% kaam karte to padhne wale kaha jaate :p
Since it was recently discovered, I assumed that it is not yet added to Schedule 1 of WLP act..
To be honest, the last time I read about this organism was probably in the newspaper only.. Trust ur instinct... many times we have information back in our subconscious, just dont panic...
