Mains 2019 Preparation and Discussion Thread

last year only 33 aspirants had 870 plus marks in written and all papers were moderate

if i go with ur method then last year aspirants got 110 plus marks per paper but i think per paper difficulty consideration is good instead of overall marks .....btw its my own analysis ...it may hv validity error

Am I the only one who found implementing intro body wf conclusion format really tough to implement in this year’s gs questions??

@abhishek_pbhai mujhe cutoff 750+ around hi lag rhi hain General ki.. considering level of competition.

@abhishek_pYes, it wasn't easy as keywords (Examine, CE etc.) were hardly used. Also, I personally think UPSC just evolved. Too many toppers/institutions had ad nauseam been telling how it was necessary to break questions into sub-parts and then have this format of intro, body, conclusion. In the previous years, the nature of the questions facilitated it but not this year (at least on the whole). It was neither easy to break the questions into sub-parts.

@DKTbro, just look at marks of top 200 candidates 820ish is the base in Mains.. Factor in EWS this time and with another 10% gone, 110 around per paper this year would be base considering difficulty level.40% seatshi bachi bas General ke liye and competition is INSANE..

I might be absolutely wrong in what i think. Please bash me lightly.

dekho yar mujhe jo laga logical vo maine bola

agar aap GS 1 dekho etna easy nahi tha, GS2 me 4-5 questions to aise the ki question ki demand hi nahi samajh nahi aai hai logo ko, GS 3 me bhi question diffrently punchha upsc ne, GS 4 me 3 case study( last case study aur 2 case study polics vs civil servant ) difficult thi
jabki last year questions expected line me the, kai logo ne GS3me 145-150 tak score kiya

maine 20-25 logo se baat kiya jisne mains diya ....sabhi ka GS average hai aur optional me PAPER 2 sabhi ka disturb hai

baaki UPSC ki marking pattern aur answer ke CONTENT pe depend karta hai

i would say if one is getting 700 plus then should be postive .......

15 december tak result aa jaiga mains ka .....tab tak we should focus on P.I.

@DKTye paper 2 konse optional ka? I found geography Paper 1 difficult.

i meant one of the optional paper of every optionals was TEDHA

@Yes_I_am_inbhai.. mera itna sahi nhi gaya.. mujhe optional 2 aur GS1 ki tension khaaye jaa rhi hain.. 2 din se office mein wahi ghoom rha tha dinaag mein.. aaj bhi..

@DKThaan bhai i agree with you 100%.. but bhai mujhe pata nhi ye feeling rehti hain ki bache padhte bohott hain aur competition
and cutoff kamm nhi hone dete..

last year in forum chat ..mains ke baad most the students were confident .... . but this year bahut se log sadme me hai .....

i may be wrong but sharing my feelings about cutoff on the basis of difficulty level of paper

This is my last attempt...paper 2 of optional achha nhi hua ...phir bhi ...I think ....life me positive Rehna chahiye.
UPSC is a phase of life and not the end.

700 to na jaane ki cutoff ( with similar level of marking)

i am reading interview of toppers in murnal, and watching videos.....u can do the same

I frankly don't understand this obsession with Intro,body,conclusion. It is nothing more than a mental block in your answers. Where did this gyan come from? I am sure some genius coaching instructor or some reverant "previous year topper".

But your answers should be organic. Moulded on the spot as per the needs of the question. If you have to deliberately structure the answer in that format rather than the format coming to your thoughts and answer effortlessly, you are doing something wrong! And that confused mental process will result in an unstructured and unappealing answer.

Just my thoughts.

If in their test series you do not write intro and conclusion
They deduct marks hence people start to believe that this is format upsc adhere to. But this time with define and discuss type of keywords I felt much more comfortable in writing as per my wish not necessarily mounding into a rigid format
