@Kira0705bhai.. TS waala mentor mujhe bolta ki internization of intro-body-conclusion format is the reason first timers ace this exam.. at the time of every copy evaluation and discussion, this point was repeated 10 times, "Where is I-B-C in this question?".. Bc! iss baar paper mein aadha time toh ye hi khaa gya.. ek toh GS 2 mein questn samjh nhi aa rhe the aur upar se I-B-C ka pressure

@Kira0705Intro body conclusion is a broad format. Sometimes people try to rigidly stick to their own set formats instead of answering what the question specifically asks.

For example - In one of ethics case study this year, there was a question on consequences of politicization of bureaucracy. Only the consequences were asked. Not the reasons, not the "way forward or solutions". Still many candidates try to be innovative, solution oriented by putting in a way forward. Address the question. Nothing more. Nothing less.

250-270 marks in History is not Average. Even the Rank 40, I read on insights, scored around 245.

So that's a bit on higher level.

I guess I need to change my optional.
In last three attempt, I am Scoring really well in GS and Essay but History is pulling me down. I ain't able to score above 230.

Thinking to take Sociology.

@Jayson_Bournehow much you've scored in last year's history paper?

2.3k views

@K_9yes you right , what i meant was like in in IBC format it is said that in intro you define/present data etc and keep it short
but what if the question itself starts with "define xyz. and discuss the implications"
Now I think it is better to define the term in first para itself ache se because that is what question demands , rather than giving a short intro and then redefining it again in body somehow forcing answer into a structure

@STyr it worked for previous years , now this time upsc changed things a bit , woh bi pak gaye honge har saal ~10K copies same type ka format dekh dekh , essay mein wahi ghise pite stories se shuru hota hue dekh k .

Har cheez ka limit hota h?

@Jayson_BourneGave my first mains with history optional this year. Found questions quite straight forward compared to previous years. Not sure how this will impact the score. Might lower down a bit.?

Anyone from anthropology ?

yr upsc bhi candidates answer format dekh ke pata laga leta hoga ki answers upsc test series ki assembly line se nikle hain...
thoda bht self innovation mangte hai answers.

@abhishek_pPaper 2 Section A was easy but writing an Optional level answer and not a GS one would be key. But Section B in both papers were tough- Sanskrit in Mughal period, European style and painting, Greek war of independence, etc.
Others like industrialization which is a continuous process, impact of varna on women were a bit difficult to prepare for beforehand. Also some 10 markers were asked as 15-20 markers and viceversa. Reprieve was a very easy map section. What did you find to be easy?

Par hum log bhi kya kare

GS main bas 7 min per question main kaise diversity leke aaye
Iss bar toh question hi samaj main nahi aaye, nayi style main likhna possible hi nahi lagta

I think there is nothing wrong in discussing way forward or solutions. But they should be limited to 20-25% of the answer. The rest 80% must be dedicated to what was asked.

@Vikain ancient I found everything from U Singh, just wrote down exact language of textbook( Q 3 and Q4). In medieval, sanskrit ques (could not remember text but had rough idea from ignou that sanskrit was limited to translations of old text and nothing new was written) , zainul(exact text from satish chandra) european impact( bit of ncert and ignou- halo behind jahangir, choice of colour and tones, objects in paintings),capitalism( ignou stuff, had hard time compiling everything). Modern I found quite straight forward(I think p2p Was source of most of the questions) . In world attempted q 5 and 6 (was able to write relevant stuff but no idea how it will be examined ) was my first attempt, history sucks hell to of time and my GS prep suffered cuz of my optional. Not sure to continue with history or take anthro which is known to have a short syllabus (people say so) and is more awarding(atleast 270 marks )unlike history

@abhishek_pSame dilemma here. B'coz I have invested so much time in History don't want to leave it. But revising it is very very tough.

@Vikaeven at the exam centre, some senior players told me that history is a dhokhebaz subject.?
That students from engineering background must go for anthro, PCM or their graduation stream. History is least rewarding optional. And all this was said a day before optional paper.
Will be focusing on RPSC Aen mains for few months. Dont want myself to get struck in this cycle of upsc without a backup!

@abhishek_pThe only thing is that I can study it even after a very long day and even with mental fatigue. It is very interesting.

@Yes_I_am_inpaper went fine,
In paper 1, have written quality answers on 10 markers except only facial reconstruction there i might get 4 or 5, rest were comprehensive.
20 markers - race one was above average with standard answer unesco ashley montangu classification non morphological criteria debunking.
Turner geertz was good with corelation comparision and criticism.
Indigenous community with globalization was not that great answer wrote pointwise but could not write more case studies and answer was more pointwise only in three parts acceptance assimilation and refusal and protest.

15 matkers religion apptoach mentioned all but criticism wrote only 3 points.
Polymorphism drew graph and compared both with examples like sca thalasemia etc

High altitude wrote good answer with oxygen dissociation curve and others eg eskimo sherpa etc.
Growth methods drew graphs and wrote advantage demerit

Applied genetics drew diagrams for vntr rflp gene mapping gemome etc.

Participant observation very less time remained so had to write wrote imp in fieldwork types of participation benefits limitation and malinowski.

Last time had 141, paper went slightly better than last time.
Hoping atleast 150 this time.
