Mains 2019 Preparation and Discussion Thread

Is it just me or is there a general consensus that UPSC is turning tables on mains in a manner similar to what it did with prelims. Making the paper more ambiguous, people are unable to even come to a conclusion with regards to what the answer would be.

@Kira0705last year mera kharab gaya tha as I was giving at least 4 other exams (including PO ones). Jo bhi hai iss baar de diya hai. No more exams...so Dinn mein 3-4 baar analysis chaal raha hai

@K_9so kuch bhi ho sakta Hai. I recalled 'development processes' of GS2 syllabus and wrote NGO, shgs, donors and coop with govt, PRIs etc for development.

@nikhilit20112751 Nahi yaar. Mains ke questions mei copy paste nahi hota. NGOs provide services but "service sector" is universal. Moreover the link I shared mentions a direct statement from central minister talking about cooperation in services sector - IT/Tourism etc. Ab dekhte hain upsc kya interpretation leti hai. Collaboration and Team spirit are the key words.
SHG,NGO,PRI,CSO,Pressure groups etc are to be highlighted asfaik!

@Kira0705Clearly states "cooperation between various sectors". Whenever "service sector" is mentioned jointly it means the same as in economy. Be it GS 1 2 3 or 4.

This is what I was also wondering. In any case this years mains was an example of how UPSC is attempting to make coaching irrelevant, a couple of my geography optional friends were also telling me how their paper was coaching and topper funda proof@Shubz

@Kira0705Much as I hate to admit it, this proof is conclusive. The lines are directly lifted from the book. It happens all the time in PubAd as PubAd aspirants will agree. I myself divide along social service sectors like health and education but that seems wrong. The only ray of hope is that in optionals, while copying directly from books, the lines are enclosed in quotes. This has not been done in this case.

I am of the opinion that in such questions, wrong interpretation brings nil marks. I hope for my own sake that I am wrong though. I agree that UPSC allowed two interpretaions in the gender endangerment essay but it might have been a one-time card rather than the norm.

Representations in the regard can help. Progressive measure by UPSC. We should actively utilize the link. SOmeone can open a separete thread to discuss against which questions and on what grounds representations can be submitted.
