Mains 2019 Preparation and Discussion Thread

How have people attempted all questions in paper 2??

@nikhilit20112751 I think I am in minority here but I felt paper 3 was more challenging than paper 2. Especially the 10 markers in paper 3 were extremely pin pointed.

I left them for the end and realised that it was probably a mistake@paranthapijja

@paranthapijjayeah some were pin point questions like integrated farming system and cyber dome, but the thing is they were 10 markers; the 15 markers were quite manageable in paper 3 unlike paper 2 and in the end you dont have to write 20 excellent answers you have to write 6-7 excellent rest avg and in 2-3 which are pin pointed and you dont know much about you can beat around the bush and squeeze out something and I was able to do this in paper 3 but paper 2 was a nightmare for me!!

@nikhilit20112751 we got 7-8 minutes extra in paper 3 due to power outage at our centre. Otherwise, mere toh 1-2 question pakka chhoot jaate.

@DKTBro,if you are writing test series with any hope that vision/forum will churn out a question which upsc will repeat then its not the fault of upsc/coaching institutes!
Test series is a costly way of boosting our ego that we can finish papers and score well in those papers and nothing else

@nikhilit20112751 gs 2 required thinking and thinking requires time..which unfortunately is less...nevertheless it was hard for most..so lets see

@ManchesterUnitedbro.. Optional Paper 2 left me in jitters and not happy with GS-1. Just finished all the papers !

GS was all about completion of papers somehow.

Guys! I have completed all GS papers. On the contrary, I felt that GS2 was best for me and underperformed in GS3.
GS4 few case studies were really tough for me but I still managed them with limited 2nd ARC, probity in governance knowledge I had in 3.5 pages to give an impression that I have sufficient content even faster hard time.
Sociology Paper2 I misread one question instead of democratic profile, read Demographic profile and wrote a detailed answer about population dynamics.

Really don’t know what to expect and what not to expect because in the end it will be relative performance of subjective papers.
