Unable to get over the failure of mains. Somehow it keeps coming back to me and its hard to concentrate on what to do now. The focus always goes towards the years lost specially when there were better choices left behind. I don't know how to get over this vicious cycle of negativity and unproductivity. The moment I get on with something, the anxiety kicks in again. It feels like I dont have the energy to do anything now.

People who have been through this, can someone suggest on how to move ahead?

I wouldn't say I have been through this. I'm going through the exact same struggle as you. What has helped me a bit in the last week has been to keep pushing myself to work.

Just tell yourself that if you want to clear mains, all you have are 30 extra days. After that, everyone will be doing prelims preparation and we won't be able to derive any benefits from this 'failure'. Everyone will study for mains post prelims, these 30 days are all we've got to distinguish us from the others.

All the best. Hope you find peace and happiness soon!

Been there. Failed Mains. Failed after Interview.

If we start accepting the blame of failure, it will help us focus on what's coming next. I never blamed anyone for my failures but myself. So, when I failed, I had questions in my mind. Questions like- What do I do differently for my next attempt?

When we expect too much and are not able to locate the locus of failure, we remain anxious and confused. The only way to move on is when we acknowledge the fault within us and start working towards identifying and ultimately, eliminating it.

This way of thinking has kept me sane and clear-headed.

Thankyou for this clear approach.

I did think about the shortcomings in my efforts for the exam. The thing is I just have one attempt left. I am not able to decide clearly if I should go for it full time once again (27 years right now) or go for other Grade A exams or try to balance both due to the associated uncertainty. Trying to get the clarity of how and where to move ahead.

I would suggest u to take one year break from the preparation or do something else which u really wanted to  do sth apart from CSE

You may just discover some major revelations, some fresh perspectives and some major flaws- not in ur preparation- but the way u plan and think through

Gud luck

  • firstly this subject u can't prepare in a single day or in a week. In this subject u need to give daily time.
  • How to prepare this section:

    • Read and note down current affairs and static GK

5.Govt. Schemes- vision ias magazine or shankar IAS compilation
      6.gk today( YouTube )

Quant strategy:

In most of banking exams this section is having 40-50 questions but In RBI Grade B exam this section is having 30 questions.

There is a line said for this subject “Jitna Pen Ghisoge Utna Dimag Chalega”. Means more practice can make your mind to face any type of problem.

If you are good in it then try to score much by attempting more questions in your fix time for this section and if you’re not good in this subject just try to clear cut-off and score in other subject.

sources: Practice book on quicker math by K.kundan, sarvesh verma ,practice mock and olive board test series, infinitessimal (youtube channel){bold wala part hi bahut hai}

In continuation with RBI series Today i will share my strategy for the rest of the subjects :

Reasoning:

This section has 60 questions for 60 marks and this section is also scoring, only thing u need to do lots of rigorous practice and understanding of language of Questions.

As it has 60 marks try to score more to cross over all cut-off

Inequality, coding decoding, syllogism, input-output, misc. (age, direction, ranking, relations etc.), puzzles, sitting arrangement, analytical reasoning.

where to practice solve as many mocks as possible and choose any book for concepts and understanding of other topics my recommendation -Indu sharma or R.S. Aggarwal or MK Pandey (analytical reasoning)

Prepare all topics even statement assumptions etc. sometimes you may see these questions so “Prepare for worst to give your Best”

ENGLISH:

English is also having 30 questions and 30 marks in this exam sometime this section is game changer in other banking exams but not in RBI. It does not mean you should take it lightly remember you have to clear sectional cut-off too.
grammar, vocabulary, error-spotting, comprehension, sentence rearrangement,

make your habit to read Any English news-paper (The Hindu and The Indian express are best), English magazines, and novels.

If u r good in it then try to score much by attempting many questions, if not try to clear sectional and score in other subjects.

Learn at least 10-15 new words, writing articles and then check grammatical errors, wren and martin book (for concept)

Test series: Olive board and practice mock(both are available online)

People who have been through this, can someone suggest on how to move ahead?

I have been through this many times. This is going to be my first interview in 4 serious attempts at mains. Initially I did not get discouraged by mains results because I saw obvious flaws in my preparation. But in my previous mains, I felt like I had done everything. When mains result came, I could not help but cry.

I took some time to process these feelings. I re-evaluated my choices. Thought hard about whether it would be prudent to continue with preparation now. I tried few other things but came back to UPSC because this is what I felt that I really wanted to do. I resumed preparation. Reflected more and found out more flaws in my system. I tried many things to overcome those. Some did not work but some did. Don't know what the result will be after interview, but I feel that I have grown and progressed.

I agree with what Azadhindfauz said. Focusing on what is in our control and taking responsibility for that, is the only way forward.
