How many of you believe in the argument that UPSC deliberately keeps the exams lengthy to ensure that candidates are forced to write from their subconscious and what they have internalised. Or is it one of the narratives peddled by UPSC apologists to justify anything and everything that the holy cow does.

1.UPSC deliberately keeps the exams lengthy to select the ones who can handle pressure cooker situations.

2. Though It wants that candidates write the answer in their own language with subconscious knowledge, the no. of questions and sub-questions are so many that in that much limited time bookish language always has an advantage bcz one can't frame a proper logically coherent answer in those situations which resembles a glorified writing speed test.

3. UPSC is a holy cow. No matter what examiners do with the students, it's the students which are always at the receiving end. No one questions the paper setter.

Writing under pressure and using analysis has become a joke

So many questions are pure knowledge in which case all these talks about speed and pressure handling goes out of the window. Reason being everyone can handle that pressure who’s giving mains

@paranthapijja i believe. Dont give time, you will get impulse answers that come from within.

It is well established HR practice.

Baki UPSC is holy cow, prelims ko gamble bana rakha h

essay is a really underestimated paper... i was checking out the marksheets of previous year.. there is 40-50 marks difference as well.. what i want to say is... after optional essay is the biggest difference maker.. we should prepare more thoroughly for essay next year if at all we give the exam next year i mean.

Anyone found correlation between FLT mains mocks and actual exam scores?

For me, it's +/-10 variation between mock FL tests and actual exams based on my experience in 2021 mains

No corelation. Some times mocks are generous in awarding marks in the end for boosting candidate's confidence. Experiences of previous toppers like 2018 reflect different picture of mocks.

Moreover it is scaled marks. If you have noticed that in history paper the score are fixed at certain numbers like 150,144,128,133,114etc.The marks are relative which is not so in mock test.

For me, actual marks are less than mocks. (Few exception are always there.)

I was searching for ways to evaluate my  performance in Mains22, realised it's pointless exercise and best is to watch discussion videos and note if any important points missed

You will be judged relatively with other 399 candidate's surrounding your roll no. The best one can do is cover all points of question holistically and leave rest to upsc as we have no control over scaling.

@Street_lamp  I have been part of debate in which candidates were suggesting to write mains from north east or cental india as competition was less there and scaling aids in achieving good marks.

I don't agree with this thinking.(north east people have same intellect as compared to other regions). Have you come across this thinking to choose mains centre which is good for allocating mark?. As per me it is quiet weird. But I have heard candidates doing this. Do this exercise  even has potential to achieve desire result?

Have you come across this theory?
