LIVE Session onStrategic Mistakes and Handling Tricky Questions
LIVE Session for filling up DAF 2 | CSE 2020
Hello All,
So the last time I create a TG for Interview prep we saw some good discussions. However, the group has little archival value, by which I means discussions that happen are not archived on the Internet forever - which is something we need for Civils prep - or at least for the community.
This thread is created by ME circa 2021 to be "The Interview Group"
I am also working on a guide for Interview Preparation - which is kinda here
And a very interesting hobby discussion thread here

@Neyawn How does “ watching contemporary movies” as a hobby look in your opinion?
@Neyawn How does “ watching contemporary movies” as a hobby look in your opinion?
Fairly good. As long as you have watched at least a dozen movies.

@Neyawn it would be of great help if you could tell how much specific one should get while writing hobbies.. for instance, writing ' 'cooking' vis a vis 'cooking different types of rice/snacks' or 'Cooking Chinese cuisine'.
Cooking is fine. Cooking Chinese cuisine is good too. Do watch videos on Chinese food. Also prepare a bit on the food culture. For instance, if someone has visited China for like a week and had meals there, what would be the first things he would ask. Guess them and prepare your answers.
If you can’t, prepare questions asked in mocks that you take.

@Neyawn thank you. Will definitely research a little. However, is it that mentioning a cuisine is fine but one shouldn't mention any specific type of dish that they keep experimenting with (in my case rice/snacks)?
Keep it simple, stupid.
Follow the principle when in doubt.

I have also the same happy
Thankyou! I must have watched more than a dozen movies, was only thinking what if the members would start asking about movies of their era and stuff. How to prepare in that case?
I read the prelims thread and comments by@Neyawn and others. I am afraid and almost want to start preparing for the next prelims already. :/

Look, you can’t prepare everything. Interview preparation is an incremental , best effort basis thing. Do not be over ambitious and try to do everything.
So be incremental. Prepare things as they come.
We always overestimate what we can achieve in a day and under estimate what we can achieve in a Week or month.

Sure, thanks for the patient reply:) I'll try to make a realistic plan keeping in mind the incremental approach you suggested. Rest is bhagwan ke upar, let's see :-D
@Neyawn 1)I'm national player in wrestling and love watching it's videos too. Should I put it too in hobby, or should I think of something else as it might present over-tilted personality towards one dimension only? Olympic wrestling btw not wwe.
2) I once won 2nd prize in state level blog writing competition but I don't have any certificate of same I lost it during travel, should I mention it or not?
Thanks
@Neyawn Sir, I would
be grateful if you will share your views on the following points:
1. In the
column for prizes/ scholarships, does it make sense to write about
intra-university level prizes in debates, quizzes, etc or even school level
prizes?
2. I have
done two foreign internships during my engineering. But that was almost 4-5 years
ago. Would it make sense to fill it in the scholarship column or would it sound
out of place?
3. In the
sports column, should I just mention the name of the sport or also the level at
which I have participated? Say, zonal level swimming or just swimming?
4. The 4thcolumn mentions extra-curricular activities along with hobbies. Would it be
okay to fill in extra-curricular activities in which I participated during
college (but not after) like debating or quizzing here?
5. I write short
poems and prose in English and Hindi that I publish on a social media handle. It’s
nothing major but I have been doing it for the last 4 years. Do you think I can
write it under the hobbies column as “writing poems”?
