Just a small request to@Ankit_sahu @Sadhika -Stop preaching on the required traits for a CSE aspirant. For every Aruna Roy, Harsh Mander,Shah Faesal, etc. on one side of the spectrum, there is Sanjay Dixit, D Roopa, Hardeep Puri, Aparajita Sarangi, etc. on other side of the spectrum. You can be right or wrong according to your beliefs but nobody gives you a damn right to judge others.
and thats the irony..there is no singular reality.
Indeed. But this is a universalistic notion. From the prism of individualism or communitarianism, there is always a reality. We can contest realities but without getting into a game of labelling and mud sludging. Also NN Taleb has been very consistent with his thoughts and I agree- It the most intolerant who wins the argument in the game of establishing narratives.
sad. i skipped this attempt to get some kind of a job , but corona has shown that even the best of plans can go to the dogs !! coincidentally, i read a novel The Joke just before corona and now life has replied - Jokes on you. only if it were a meme i could have quipped - No You.is there any possibility of upsc reopening the application form for cse 2020?Not a chance.that process is over.they would have already prepared candidate list for each centre in each district in each state. Just go for 2021 .
Bhai ghabrana nahi hai. I joined purana wala forum around 2016 I guess when I was still in 2nd year of my college.@Yo_Yo_Choti_Singh was the hero back then there. Today in 2020,sir is still a entertaining chap but has achieved what he wanted to despite all the circumstantial difficulties.Hausla rakhna hai.
Since there is no information on centre change, should we assume that they won't give that option?
Jan 1st week mains in delhi is going to be a task :( Sept sochke delhi rakha tha mains ka center
Exactly that's what i was thinking. I remember i had a tough time going to office in January this year. This years winter was very harsh. It was bone chilling cold and writing mains with those shaky hands will be a challenge for Delhi people.
Delhi walon(I too was till Oct 2019)- Delhi Mei sardi nahi moderate sardi hoti hai
Basically, looking at the number of days left, I can pick up only 1 monthly compilation.
So, can anyone give analysis ofVisionvs.Insightvs.IASBaba (monthly + babapedia)vs.Drishti
If you can share your experience, it will be easier for me and other fresh aspirants to make an informed decision and stick to 1 source till the exam.
My 2 cents. Go with Drishti. Daily News and Analysis if possible. Why-
1. Unlike Insights, it does not merely copy pastes stuff and makes the analysis readable and understandable. I followed Insights from July- November. Since December, I have been exclusively following Drishti.
2. Vision too is good. I followed Monthlies during 2018-19 attempt. But I always have a feeling that in their pursuit to put more content in less number of pages, they sometime bombard too much of content.
3. Drishti has decent horizontal as well as vertical coverage. Give it a try. You probably will like it.
4. And for Mains GS,there is nothing as good as Insights Secure Initiative, though it takes a good amount of time.
Please do not do insights secure at all. I have suffered from it for 2 years as I actually thought that doing it will help. It is trues that you come up with many types of questions. But if I have cleared Mains in my fourth attempt only because for 2 years i was busy doing secure bogged down the huge bulk and volume of it.
You will feel all good while seeing the compilation, but in the end there will be so much duplication of content that you will end up with khichdi. You will not be able to write consistent matter on any question, becuas every time a new type of answer will be given. It is true that we need perspectives, but it was only this year for my Mains I realised that you dont need to write 100 answers on same topic. I did forum current affairs and faculty did one single document of 2-3 pages on each issue. That is what you need in the end before Mains. If you have 100 pages on Covid 19 before Mains, you are screwed. You will get max of 1 question each in all four papers.
At the end of the year you will have thousands of questions and no coherence, and you will be forced to join some classes at the last moment - after doing secure for 2 years. And I am not saying from my own experience, but from experience of entire group of people who followed secure religiously.
Main thing is nobody is there to tell and we dont know until we pay for by wasting 1-2 years. So save yourself a year or two, dont waste time over secure.
You have a point. Since I didn't qualify for Mains in 2018-19 mains, so not a person to comment on real exam situations. But it did help me in Mains TS. This is how I do-
1. I skip for GS4 part.
2. Avoid repetitive themes. I jot down in Q-A Format on plain sheets.
3.1 Page(both sides)- 4 Q-A.
4. Since I have been doing this since past >1.5 years, it takes me around 15 plain sheets to cover GS1-3.This is around 60 questions out of around 300+ in a month for GS 1-3
Again I must confess that this may prove disastrous and you may be absolutely right. But I believe UPSC is a game of trial and errors in many senses. What may seem a right strategy today might be wrong in 2021 for the same person.
Suggestions are welcome.
are jee aspirants appealing in the court?....i mean 17/18 saal ke bacche kya he appeal karenge....aur parents to bolenge beta padh lo tu iss faltu appeal ke chakkar me mat pado....
aur rahi baat upsc aspirants ki....i think many will / already has appealed may be coz many are lawyers themselves and also all know where and how to appeal....bada pechida mamla hoga lagta hai.....
koi subramanya swami ko pata lo case lene mai....vo kuch kar lenge😂😂.... nahi to oppn rahul gandhi/tharoor to le he lenge case (🤔)
If I am not mistaken, AM Singhvi and Alakh Alok Srivsatava are appearing on the behalf of students against UGC.These two are prominent lawyers and UGC case probably should end up in favour of students. Also JEE and NEET are still more than a month away, so someone will be filing a plea to postpone the exam in next few days. Also S. Swamy would have filed a PIL incase it would have helped him gain some attention. It is not the case with the demand for postponing the exams. Also situation is scary. We cannot really decide as to how UPSC proceeds from here. It should(and will most probably will) decide what deems best to its wisdom.
@mightyraju looking at the recent trends such as SC judgement or lack of judgment on migrants issue. Plus the anuradha judgement SC will most likely wont intervene in executive matters or give any binding orders.
I think that SC judgments have been based on some merit. It has intervened to order PermanentCommission in Army. As far as Anuradha Bhasin case was concerned, I believe the aspect of GOI not placing the orders before the bench was a big reason for SC's inconclusive order. As someone who is from the same region which was directly impacted by the order in this case,I believe there are certain security reasons for government for being reluctant on allowing 4 G network resumption(2G has resumed few months back though).
*Also I will suggest you to google a keyword- Ghulam Fai and Ved Bhasin(*Ved Bhasin-was father of Anuradha Bhasin)
This is something I wanted to say since a last few days-
The thread began as a speculating thread vis a vis UPSC Prelims 2020. It has on quite many occasions turned out to be a really nice thread where people speculate and counter-speculate. But since the lasts few days, it has turned nothing short of a propaganda war machinery. It is quite comparable to a reddit thread where chaps are trying to push a certain narrative. A narrative which is not even even remotely gonna help us in UPSC preparation. I am acknowledging this fact that at times, many of us(including me) have somehow made a comment that was irrelevant to the required discussion(*The comment by me on Bhasin Case shouldn’t heave been made by me. On realising, I decided not to proceed with the comment made by some friend on that comment). But I am taking names now- The account @redemption has in the last few days has made comments in the section which were laced with a certain malaise to satiate his ideological cravings. He needs to realise that putting someone down by commenting on typo errors doesn’t make him look cool. He may have been(or is) a Nanny Communist and he has every right to follow his ideological leanings, but this platform is not the place to do this. All the good folks over here might have been fascinated by his defence of China or Venezuela or pushing CIA conspiracy theories, but anybody who has been to liberal institutions(and is somewhat able to see the things in a neutral manner) can vouch for the fact that he is recycling and putting all those arguments that are put forward by students activists of a certain ideological space in elite institutions. Let sanity be renewed here on the thread and let us refrain from turning it into a Reddit or a Twitter battle. Peace Out.
* To anybody who wants to come after me for making this comment- “The propagandist’s purpose is to make one set of people forget that certain other sets of people are human”- A. Huxley.
@mightyraju wao even 26 rank..really upsc is not luck based exam
I guess he even started out late this time since he didn't get into IAS and was allotted IRS.all
@mightyraju You are talking about which college? DSE or Ramjas?
Ramjas bhai.Aapka bhi same kya?
Exam on 4th October seems to be real possibility now. The way KCET has been held, it's very much possible that Upsc will be conducting examination on time with necessary precautions.
Probably everything will play around the actualisation of Federalism. Any All-India Exam will require active coordination with States. Lets see how it pans out.

I don't know if the states can stop it, it won't be conducted only when there will be logistical issues. Given what happened in KCET. Also for jee less than a month remaining and not even a word by govt only that parents n students demanding postponement till situation is under control.Plus NDA too looks like a green signal.
The lawyers fighting from the side of students have sent a plea to MHRD 2-3 days back to postpone NEET and JEE. I think MHRD may give a green signal but the Court may not. Also Mr. Nishank has been more of an indecisive kid. On this count, Dr Jitendra Singh is comparatively more pro-active. Aagey ham sub to predict hi kar sakte hai. Faisla to hmare hukmarano ko hi lena hai. Jaan or Jahan- their choice.
@mightyraju nahi bhai....ek jaane wala ka hai....kya hota hai....surity hoti hai ??
Kam surety hoti hai except for pehle much rank wale. Aage hope for the best. Bhagwan Kare unka selection ho jay after coming so close.
Sharing a personal story(especially for those who consider themselves immune to the virus if they have prepared well)-
My maternal family is a joint family with 11 members. One mistake and 6 of them have tested positive. 3 others have also started to show symptoms(They might have caught the virus while taking the infected members to hospital and testing centres). One of them is a kid not even 3 years old yet. So much has been the scare that my parents are also maintaining isolation with me as well as amongst themselves due to the fact that we also got together at my mother's maternal place on 3rd August. The life has almost come to a standstill. As a consequence, even I have suffered huge levels of anxiety in the past few days.
I don't know what the government intends to achieve by opening schools in September(I hope this 'source based news' turns out to be false). There are schools just next to Covid testing centres(The centre where I got tested had this scenario). It is always better to lose 1 year of schooling than to jeopardise lives. I know it is a brutish world where even our parents will risk their children's lives for the sake of some competitive exam(My parents ain't any different from others in this respect). I sincerely hope that good sense dawns on our administrative and political masters and they decide to abstain from being adventurous till the risk subsides significantly.
Offtopic - For prelims, I am thinking of Vision monthly + News in shorts at the end of vision . Does PT 365 have something extra? I also have some notes of daily insights CA. Are these enough apart from the static part?
If you have followed Daily CA of any Coaching, you can stick only to that. If you still want to be extra sure, do check the Index for PT365 for something extra.
Though I am in support of postponing exams(especially due to the factor that many in my family were infected with corona), I don't get this mudslinging against BJP(and this so called recently coined term bhakts). After all, it was the Communist government of Kerala which was the first to conduct competitive exams during this pandemic. Also since this issue has now deflected to a battle of egos, I don't see any reason as to why BJP will be willing to cow down from its earlier position.
So I have landed in a situation similar to my previous attempt. I am scoring 96.67 as per Forum Calculator(59 C and 32 W). Last year around too, I was somewhere getting around 98-99 from so called reliable Answer Keys. I prepared for Mains last year during this period and also joined Test Series for GS,Optional as well as Essay. When Prelims List was out, I couldn't find my roll no. I am in same range of scepticism this time around too. Can good folks suggest over here. Ek Baar aisa ho to theek lagta hai, but I seriously don't wanna be second time unlucky this time around.
Typical Forum Ias discussions. Those who somehow are on the borderline are intimidated by the high cutoff predictions by some wicked souls. In the process, many miss preparing nicely for Mains.
Dropping a spoiler(may be absolutely wrong)-Those predicting higher cutoffs are either,
1. Those who haven't even appeared ,or
2.Those who are far from cutoff and are trying to make sure that they spoil the game of others ,or
3. Those who are infact scoring very high but are poorly prepared for Mains.
Beware of these 3 types of aspirants.
*I missed last year's cutoff by a whisker(was getting around 100 in various keys). This year around, I am in the range of 95-99, so again in that zone. I may be biased towards low cutoff due to my situational crisis but that doesn't take away the fact that I stand by the observations made above.
@Biradar Who is this Amar Dombe Patil? I remember a guy with same name peer reviewing my answers when I used to post my Answers on Insights.*He used to write brilliant answers.

Bohot bara feku tha. He's a legendary turner of the ball. Much more than warne or muralitharan. 😎😎😎😎
Tab to mera kaata hai use bande ne phir. I used to plead before him in order to get my answer reviewed from him
@mightyrajudo you have his latest lectures, from shubra mam institute ?
I have but from the time he used to teach in his own institute(Orient Ias).
@mightyraju I have some basic understanding, still will follow his lectures.. written mains but always gets less marks in ethics.
Want to do practice forcase studies.

@mightyrajuare they sufficient ?
More than enough.

can u provide his last 5 lecture??
I joined his classes in nov. 2018 bt smhw i could nt finish his classes.
Search on Telegram bhai. Even I missed his last 2 classes due to fever.
Admin logon@root uda daalo iss thread ko. Naa bachega baans naa bajegi bansuri. Kabhi kabar mann batak jaata hai aur iss thread par land ho jaata hoon. Phir mann pehle se bhi zyaada batak jaata hai.
Out. Was getting 94-96.67 from various keys. Here's the pdf-
@mightyraju ditto bro. Only differences are - got 96 in 2019, not pursuing law😔, not only these simple questions but others also.
Our trajectory is akin to a parallel curve to X axis of a graph. Par hum honge kamyaab ek din. Probably taking an year off will give me an outsider perspective in this year Prelims. One thing is for sure- I am aiming for Forest cutoff from 2022 attempt. When we aim low, we achieve low.
This was my 5th attempt. I flunked this year. I am an IITian. Friends told me prepare for RBI SEBI more technical things which hv certainty., dont go for uncertain arts. I did not listen. I pursued. Wanted to solve crime and see people get justice. Ah!! my idealism. Bloody Crime Patrol. And here I am after 5 years, with no job, and Body mass index crossing all acceptable limits and tons of failures. Qualified pre every time but Never crossed mains barrier. People here are talking about Plan B. Brother, There is no energy left in me to pursue anything. Parents have given up hope and friends are expanding population. I am just lonely loser sitting in this one empty room.
People try to cheer me up by saying I am an inspiration for them. I know what they mean. They mean to say "Look look!! that what happens when you get overambitious." Pair utni failao jitni chadar ho jisko samajh nahi aata uska iss larke jaisa halat hota hai.
I will probably not come again ever on social media bcz then I start comparing myself . So before my last adieu I want to speak my mind. Also bcz no one knows me here and their judgement will not affect me , I am taking this route. Otherwise in real world No matter what I say , I will be judged. No one will listen ki "Maine har saal mehnat kiya tha , har saal nind sacrifice kii thi, har baar evalute and re-evaluate kiya, har saal fight kiya". No one will believe. Infact my father doesnt believe in my efforts What can I say about others. All will say You did not give your best effort. You know what, the pain of failure doesn't hurt that much. What hurts most is that people do not acknowledge your sacrifices. Power of specs has increased, face has become like a squeezed tomato , male pattern baldness has set in, social circle is non-existent since 5 years. No one even recognizes it.
And to top it, Coaching teachers have some hurtful comments. One teacher says, one who doesnt qualify is definitely not preparing and wasting his time, Second teacher says if u do not get single-double digit rank then ur efforts were useless , u shud have joined a PSU instead. Third teacher says, if u are not in till 4th attempt then quit and do something else- tumse na ho paega -its beyond your caliber. I Hear these insults and humiliations on daily basis. But still I push myself. Manate hain dil ko , push karte hain khud ko. But no one will see it, All are going to say " 5 years since college and no jobs, Nalayak larka hai. useless kid. ".
I cant even remember when was the last time I went on a vacation. I cant even imagine What is the feeling of being stress free, the feeling of being relaxed, feeling of security.
I used to believe in God. But now I think if it existed then atleast once in these years it would have heard my prayers. People say God helps those who help themselves. They say as if I was swiping faces on tinder all these years.
Sometimes I think of quitting and reducing my carbon footprint once and for all. It will be less painful than daily dose of pain I bear.I dont even know why I am posting this on social media. Maybe I am looking for one teeny tiny ray of hope. Maybe some enlightened soul can help. Maybe I want to live and enjoy like others so I am writing all my ramblings. But there seems no hope. I am living example of demographic disaster. God please help me. I wish I had someone to talk to.
Bhai I know that no piece of advice or motivational conjectures will be enough to grasp your pain. Par sab theek ho jayeega. The one who is omniscient must have decided something very good for you bhai.
