Non-engineering ke liye csat ka 23% karna hai toh engineers ke liye gs ka 70 kar do. Common But Differentiated Responsibility :grin:

@dravidpujara I have often come across this argument. The assumption here, as far as I understood, is that humanities students have an advantage in UPSC GS unlike the ones having Engineering background. But how is this true?
I did BA hons in geography. But I have never felt any advantage of being a humanities student. Even in geography questions, my college knowledge rarely benefits me. And if it does benefit me, one could then also say that Engineering students might have an upper hand in S&T questions, or the students having history optional might benefit in history questions. So ultimately, no one has an exclusive advantage.
Similarly, one of my friends said that since he is an engineer he dislikes all humanities subjects (and is therefore at a disadvantage) and on the other hand I being a geography student, am much "closer" to all the other subjects like polity history etc. But even if I like geography, I have no interest in studying other subjects. I don't like polity, history or art & culture at all. So both of us, here also, are equally positioned.

Now let's come to CSAT. He has been since 10th class solving maths or CSAT questions. and even he found the paper to be tough.
On the other end of the spectrum are all 'non-maths' students. Normally I can solve maths question in CSAT through the given options. But this time, there was no way this could work and everyone knows why. On the top of it, reasoning questions were almost non-existent.

So how could it be that the Engineering students getting relaxation in GS is equivalent to humanities students getting relaxation in CSAT 2023?

@MoorkhDuryodhan It was just said in jest in pity for my own situation and I am sure many are in a similar boat. Let's cut each other some slack.

@dravidpujara I think that post came across ruder than I intended. Bhai, I was not complaining or attacking you, I was just really curious to hear some counterviews on the topic! It's all good!

@MoorkhDuryodhan No worries bro!
Sorry for the fact that it came across as rude. I am pretty certain if CSAT levels come down, I am out. Hence, couldn't structure the message well. Not that if it stays at 66, I would be certain. I will probably have a higher chance. That's all.
As far as counterviews go: Engineers are not automatically good at S&T. We are never taught about AI, Blockchain, Biotech etc. I learnt about these things for the 1st time during preparation.
Cheers!

Does it mean petitioners lost? BTW this comment is from yesterday and 52% is not too bad. People were saying >75%.

@MoorkhDuryodhan its true to certain extent that csat is advantage to engineers/people with maths background. but when it comes to 2023 csat paper it felt like it was designed to fail the guys who solve only quant/reasoning questions.it forced everyone to attempt atleast 4 to 5 comprehensions and it finally boiled down to these additional comprehension questions that would probably help to cross the cutoff.Guys who rely on only maths without even looking at comprehension question have higher chances of failing in this year paper than people relying on comprehension.having said that the paper definetly crossed the limits of syallabus
