[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

Because of the corona virus issue? If it does not happen then worst affected will be people whose interview is stuck, around 600-700 such people I think are yet to appear for their interview.

@neyawn sir and others, what is your take?

This is the official Thread for discussion of Prelims Postponement, Please do not create new threads for the same.

Abhyaas scores make it seem like the cutoff will definitely increase this year. Too small a sample space to make any estimate though.

@exman True. But I think veterans got lot of time this time. Scores are very high.

What should have been a good score in this Vision Abhyaas? Seems like everyone is scoring too high!! I feel like giving up at this moment :(

They had provided an additional test. Rest happens as scheduled.

The scores actually have increased. I had the same percentile (around 95%) in 1st abhyaas and my marks were 91. Today with the same percentile my marks are 116.

But number of students this time is half of the first test. So not sure. 😬

Plus I felt like a lot of questions were directly from other vision FLTs, that may have increased the score.

I think anything above 80-85 means that you're in the competition. The rest is decided by how calm your nerves are on the D-Day.

@extraid1 I did horribly in Abhyaas 1. Got only 70. Got 120.8 this time. Things have improved in the meantime I guess.

Astronomical predictions (either but not both) to come true:

1. Due to Yarkovsky effect, the gravitational pull of Earth will change the trajectory of orbit of Apollo asteroid 2010FR. At about 3:30 PM IST on 6th Sept, 2020 earth is fucked.

2. Emergency imposed in lieu of Indo-China war before 4th Oct.

Success Ratio 100%

Prelim Fucked 100%

Subject to market risk. No need to read documents car

I hope you're right. It doesn't really matter a lot if the top 0.1% increase their marks by a big number. UPSC will still have to select N no of candidates. But no reliable way to know what happens to the rest.

@rafael it's not just for free tests. Even paid online tests have scores that are very high.
For ex - In insights test series, there are people scoring 200/200. Some 5-10 students 190+

That's the problem in online tests. How do we assess our rank here then?

@Darvey78 dont bother much. See the solutions and make sure you don't do the same kind of mistake again. Prelims is all about the D-day. People can actually score very high in mocks but upsc is no more running on the same pattern as before 2018. Plus vision this year has gone a little overboard I feel, tests are just not meant to score well.

I guess marks would be a good indicator if we have given the test honestly. Forum members and veterans can opine what would be a good score in this Abyaash. Like@hashtag2020 has said 80-85.

@rafael it's okay to feel bad now instead of 4th. I personally feel cheating gives a false sense of satisfaction, we start over estimating ourselves + do not go through solutions properly.
Scoring low in mocks is okay unless you are doing blunder in the easy direct questions. Upsc always have questions like those and they are the ones to be targeted!

This is absolutely the last thing you want to see just before sleeping. Vision tests used to be a bit absurd till last year(90-95 decent score), this year they were more relevant & higher scoring(100-105) (FLTs).

And now I'm seeing people talk about getting a score of 116 and yet bordering on 92nd percentile. Has the competition improved that much, and am I keeping up with it. The worst thing that can happen now is that you score 110 in prelims and still miss the bus for mains.😵
