[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

Because of the corona virus issue? If it does not happen then worst affected will be people whose interview is stuck, around 600-700 such people I think are yet to appear for their interview.

@neyawn sir and others, what is your take?

This is the official Thread for discussion of Prelims Postponement, Please do not create new threads for the same.

Today’s Shankarias test was amazing. Felt like final paper. Lengthy, factual, application

@TONYSTARK90011 Am I the only one who gets terrified by the thought of exam getting delayed? Or do most serious aspirants want some kind of delay too?

I am certain the exam is going to happen, but the thought of waiting even further for prelims scares me.

Hey.

I am taking much time even in mock tests. Any (practical) suggestions to read through fast.

And, does doing paper in rounds gets implemented in actual exam properly, I was not able to follow it.

Do not over-analyze and even then if the paper feels lengthy, then it will be lengthy for everyone.

Gave  abhyas 4 of vision  ...very tough...vision IAS should get award in setting such stupid paper....almost 80% of questions were complex ..in upsc it is 20% that are very tough...they have turned the upsc pattern upside  down..what they want to prove with such tough paper. God knows....waste of time and energy..

Time management is a big problem in my case, last year I didn't mark even after 80 mins because still 20 questions were left for my round 1 to finish and only when invigilator told me when will you mark in OMR, I panicked and started marking answers which I was sure of. But, I completely messed up in last 20 questions, skipping few questions which were very logical and also making mess in those que which I left for round 2. In fact, round 2 never actually came for me, I was just randomly flipping pages in last 20-25 mins to search for que so that I can maximise my score because I knew I have messed up heavily. I got so panicked that my mind was not even processing very easy eliminations in questions. I felt so dejected after the paper that I messed up my paper 2 also, thinking about paper 1. So, this time I am making some amends so as to not repeat the last year's debacle.

@Akkku I gave close to 40 mocks at the Centre in my first attempt (2019). I followed R-1, R-2 and R-3 strategy in each of those mocks and usually finished paper 10-15 minutes in advance. On the D-day, I finished R-1 (40 - 45 questions) in 1 hour. It was then I figured out that that R-3 is not possible. So I kept on attempting questions as they came. Eventually managed to attempt all that I wanted and scored reasonably well ~120.(Usually attempt 90+, managed same in exam).
My learning was that no matter how well you have devised a strategy, it can go for a toss depending on the kind of paper UPSC makes. Be ready to adapt in the examination hall. Don't be fixated on R - 1, 2, 3 strategy. Try to follow it but always keep am eye on the watch. Divide your time into 4 slots of 30 minutes. Don't leave too much for last slot as panic would set in. A reasonably well prepared friend couldn't mark some questions on OMR last year. Avoid such stupid mistakes.

Agreed..I found it the toughest among the recent three Abhyaas with no scope of elimination in most of the questions

Guys, are there any ABHYAS tests left? Or the last one has been conducted?

Today was the last one thankfully. Couldn't have taken the torture for another week. :/

messed up my last attempt because of this. finished round1 in 70 minutes and could mark only 35 questions in that. Then panick got the best of my nerves and marked some questions wrongly. There were 3 such questions where I had eliminated a certain statement of the question but while choosing the correct option chose the one which contained that eliminated option.
Made amends this time. I now try to attempt most of the questions in the first go itself. It includes the questions for which I know I would have to certainly attempt. All the elimination is done as fas as possible. Only the questions for which I have no idea or I think are too risky to attempt are left for the next round. Then on the basis of number of questions attempted and with help of different jugaads I mark the rest of the questions.
Been working for me this far. Let's see how it goes on the D-day.
