[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

Because of the corona virus issue? If it does not happen then worst affected will be people whose interview is stuck, around 600-700 such people I think are yet to appear for their interview.

@neyawn sir and others, what is your take?

This is the official Thread for discussion of Prelims Postponement, Please do not create new threads for the same.

Yup

The thing I like about Insights' mocks is (though they are far from UPSC style of questions setting) the random questions which I don't have idea are relatively higher than other mocks which prepares atleast me for the question paper like cse'19.

Basically the smart guesses without easy eliminations is the thing these Insights' mocks prepares me for.  And yes when I score decently in them, boosts my confidence.

Am I the only one here who thinks that his preparation is completely messed up. Read everything multiple times. But dont know what to revise, what to leave. Now studying just for the sake of studying. In the back of mind I know this attempt is doomed. Sorry don't want to spread negativity. But this is what it is.

Similar situation buddy. I am not sure if it’s just exam jitters or a real issue. But my rational mind tells me it’s probably the former. I would suggest that you try giving a mock super quickly - not one of the ridiculous vision ones, but a relatively easy one. There’s no need to even spend a lot of time analysing solutions at this point. If nothing else it will calm your nerves and show you any gaps in your preparation, and just give you a clear list to focus on for the next four days. (Like I realised I needed to read reports & indices ONE more time, that sort of thing). I am doing one of the Pragyan tests from OnlyIAS (as@Sherkhan1428 had suggested sometime ago in another thread). I know mock tests are a questionable choice at this time, but if the nerves and negativity are not letting you study anyway it’s worth it to reorient yourself. But just make sure it’s not a draining, difficult one. That would be counterproductive. Just make it a quick break.  I’ve realised that there are a lot of things that I feel I am reading for the first time when I open a source I have revised 236253623 times, but those same things when asked on a test, I’m able to answer correctly. Can’t be doing with low self-confidence at this time. Just four more days and this will all be over. Hang in there.

Disclaimer: first attempt. Please correct if I’m wrong.

@Challenger_Deep CivilS is one of the most unpredictable exams in India. You never know things might turn out in your favour on D Day.
Since you've read everything multiple times, you certainly have a chance. Don't feel defeated already because if you go with that attitude, you won't do well for sure, whereas confidence and mental calmness can help you sail through.
As a famous Hindi saying goes
'Mann ke haare har hai, Mann ke jeete jeet'

Can someone tell me the planning on what and how to revise on these last 5 days?

Revising just the things that I know I keep forgetting in every subject. Making sure I cover every source I have read at least thrice already. Going subject-wise. Economy and art & culture today, environment stuff tomorrow, polity on Thursday, modern history on Friday (subjects in order of how my memory works). Saturday is to revise lightly - assortment of data that needs to be read the previous day to stand any chance of staying in my head.

I did vision monthlies, so finishing the last of them today. I can feel my brain scream out of saturation when I so much as touch one. So not touching those until Saturday - will look over quickly if I get time.

I am pretty much following the same. Someone suggested keepting PT/Any current affairs source for last 2 days for better retention, i am confused between doing PTs of some important current subjects that day or to keep hotspot topics(Repeats in PYQs often+ i Keep forgetting) for those 2 days? Any suggestions on that?

I had the same dilemma but decided to go with the latter, because I realised my retention of CA that I’ve been reading long-term is good enough to answer most questions, but not as good for those few topics that I’m not able to remember no matter what I do, like tribal revolts, INC sessions, Buddhism Jainism etc.   So I think you should decide based on your own assessment of what is more likely to be forgotten on D-Day - depends completely on how each of our minds work.

Can relate. Have gone through sources multiple times now doing 1-2 subjects a day. Relied on monthlies + my own notes for CA so no PTs. Having a hard time revising CA though I've reviewed them twice over last 20 days. This week I've planned to review at least 3 months CA per day (not sure how efficient would that be though). For the last day, I would be reviewing my one notebook which has tables, trivia etc from across subjects - acts, revolts, maps, newspapers, etc, that's all. Not entirely satisfied with preparation on some fronts - couldn't revise tests as properly as I'd ideally like to do; maybe could have tried to be more EFFICIENT one month ago; but now is not the time for all that.

1st attempt. Kinda nervous. Its just weird when realising how hours of prep spread across months will culminate into that 2 hour window.

@whatonly

Same for me, I may remember CA which I have read 2 times, but for some static topics nothing works. So pretty clear what I need to do on the last 2 days. Thanks. :)

Any idea about CSE 2019 marks??

If you guys have read everything properly and applied your brain while reading it, it's only a matter of execution on the day. Even now when I read a topic I've read a gazillion times before, it feels like I don't know it. But in questions, I can mostly solve them. Do not keep reading whatever you believe you already know. Revise the worthwhile mocks you've taken. Identify the gaps and focus on those.  Make sure your basics are strong, you cannot afford many blunders on Sunday. You shouldnt get anything wrong which most others would get right. That will eventually be the difference. So, nothing fancy. Keep it simple af.

My 2 cents: Focus on high yielding areas like Banking, External Sector, Agriculture, Federalism, FRs, Constitutional Amendments, Forests, Waste Management, Pollution, International Organisations, upcoming technologies like 5G, 3D printing, diagnostic tools and methods, stem cell research, Space Technology, Defence. Be thorough with your basic concepts in Economics. Do Constitutional Development in colonial times properly. Read on Gandhi, things that happened approximately 100 years ago such as Mappila Revolt. Do keep an eye out for political organizations and their founders.

Also take a chill pill. It's going to be fine.

That really is the weirdest scariest thing. My life since May last year has been leading up to this. Calming down by reminding myself that irrespective of the result, I have grown and learnt so much in this process. That’s something that can’t be taken away by any exam. But I do hope I do well :p

Monthlies twice in last 20 days sounds like an amazing feat! I’m sure everything you have read is all there - the feeling of being not perfectly prepared I suppose is just evidence that we’re doing it right. No one can be perfectly prepared. Good luck for this week :) and the trivia book sounds like a great way to spend the last day.
