[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

Because of the corona virus issue? If it does not happen then worst affected will be people whose interview is stuck, around 600-700 such people I think are yet to appear for their interview.

@neyawn sir and others, what is your take?

This is the official Thread for discussion of Prelims Postponement, Please do not create new threads for the same.

+1

I think we can talk in quite some detail after mains. Would love to pick the brains of fellow aspirants on these issues. :)

If everything is so hopeless, why should we even try? I mean, we should just shut away our books, find a job, make some money and live an enjoyable life insulated from the troubles of those whose lives are so different.

You might not be able to save the entire system; the politicians will interfere in your work, you will find obstacles every step of the way. Your life might be at risk. That is why saving the system is work. It is a service. This exam shouldn't be important because of the position you would get to be in. It is important because of the powers you would have to attempt to ameliorate conditions for those much less privileged than you.

To me, saving the system means saving the people who are worst affected by it. When the news came out, the first thought in my mind was "If I were in a position to help, I would've given my best." I might have been successful, I might not have been. But at least there would be a chance if someone was willing to try.  Hathras is only one of the hundreds of such cases happening in India every other day. The others don't make the news. If you can ever use your education, your values and your powers to prevent even one of such incidents from happening, if you can save even one human life, I'd say it's totally worth all the sacrifices.

@Patootie exactly friend. Most of us have gone through NCRB data sometime. Lots of crimes and injustices happen in India (as well as the world) on a daily basis. It's not that things were great earlier and suddenly everything's gone crazy because a case got a lot of media attention.

The solution to these problems (which we should discuss after Prelims) isn't death penalty or outrage/hastags. Rather, such issues require a multi dimensional approach, which civil servants are capable of implementing at a certain level.

When we say the system failed, we musn't forget that it is actually the people inside the system that failed. Their hands were not tied; they chose not to act. It wasn't the system that made them do it. The system had conditioned the errant officers into believing that their inaction and complicity was acceptable.

Of course things are not good. That is why it needs saving.

If we want to stay true to our ideals of helping those whose voices aren't heard, we must also learn to accept that this is just the beginning of our struggles. Our struggles might not be fruitful, but our right is to the struggle. We must have it.

@SergioRamos yesterday late night I was about to post on this but anyhow stopped myself feeling that I must not disturb others in these crucial three days but I am feeling really uneasy, may be exam anxiety but how the officials behaved, how DM HATHRAS behaved, are we going to do the same if so, then I really don't want to be part of this system. So much of hard work and sacrifice just for sake of bootlicking of political masters.

Agreed. There is so much that a civil servant can do in the long term to ensure less of such incidents happen. :)

I've had these thoughts too as I'm sure many others have. The point I keep reminding myself whenever I go down this rabbit hole is that humanity is in a much better situation in almost all aspects today than we were a hundred years ago or even fifty years ago for that matter. My point is that while there are definite instances of the systems we have in place has failed, in the long run it's doing a lot of good as well. This doesn't mean we become complacent and not try to improve the system. This just means that change is a very agonizingly slow process and all we can do is to play our part in the process as diligently as we can. So stay optimistic and do all that you can.

@dragon_rider Absolutely. Most of today's people would be in horror seeing how bad things used to be 400-500 years back, times of wars and invasions. I can't even imagine how it was when guys like Timur, Nadir Shah etc. raided our country and massacred people.
Heck we don't need to go that far. In 1947, our literacy rate was 12%. However flawed we are as a nation, we have made a lot of progress. As I said in a previous comment, there are always positives too in our country as well as in our personal lives. Sometimes it's good to cherish them.

the high opportunity cost of UPSC preparation had started to haunt me at the wrong time... stumbled across this video to remind myself why I am here

have been trying to follow the Phil. of nishkam karmyog and stocism , however, it is humanly impossible to achieve it given how fickle our existence is.

now that I look at my life, in retrospect, I realise that each and every conscious/subconscious decision of my life has forced me to be here (i am sure this must be the same with everyone)..the old adage that everything happens for a reason makes much more sense to me than it ever did. probably it will make more sense on the 4th

All the best guys.....

@Bawra man completely agree with you, I'm glad we have an active squadron of Twitter investigators on every case for this.

Mitron...what’s the plan for using urinals at the Center? How risky or safe is it? Any suggestions to minimise risks?

I m not investigating anything but i dont judge a book by its cover only.....the accused are already declared guilty (even after knowing that even forensic report refutes any rape attempt)

@vikhcu2073 If you have to, why not search for a good place near your centre in the 3hr break? If your centre is not adequately equipped.
Like a mall or a restaurant? Safer strategy IMO!
