[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

Because of the corona virus issue? If it does not happen then worst affected will be people whose interview is stuck, around 600-700 such people I think are yet to appear for their interview.

@neyawn sir and others, what is your take?

This is the official Thread for discussion of Prelims Postponement, Please do not create new threads for the same.

Matlab agar kisi ne parts me jara bhi dhyaan nahi diya hoga laxmi padte time .. to ??

ye question frame karne waala mahaan aadmi hai.

aur us se bhi mahaan .. 1lac rs waale. I loved that question. M1, m2, m3 ke calculation ka old NCERT me maine sawal kiya tha.  Same to same. That was a really nice question.

I want to tell u all, coachings have no relevance at all. save that money to maintain yourself, to buy books, to buy chicken or for the sake of saving. Newspaper, books would suffice.  No test series. Actually test series may ruin you.

How is MSP or waiving off loans not an investment? Not every investment has to be good.... Anyone?

Public investment is a term used when some corresponding “Assets” are created. That’s why.

Getting 96 acc to forum keys and 98.6 acc to Shankar. Don't know whether to slog for mains or not?? This situation is the worst where u don't know for sure whether u are in or out..

@Challenger_Deep I can vouch for that. It was similar for me in 2018. Just couldn't study well till results were out.

Nonetheless, my advice would be to forget results and start studying for Mains. In case you clear, you'll only have 1.5-2 months.

About the AI question - I read somewhere that AI is of 2 types - Strong AI and Weak AI. Strong AI is capable of writing “meaningful” stories while Weak AI cannot write meaningful stories. Currently we are at the stage of Weak AI. Hence I eliminated that option.

Any Vishesh Tippani on this issue?

MPLADS answer in Forum Key is probably wrong. I read yesterday after exam in GoI Rules - that District Authority must inspect at least 10% of the works.

I did those questions with very less time at hands and made 6 silly mistakes i shouldn't have. Shouldn't have spent so much time thinking and worrying about first 70 questions. Had c set unfortunately, all the easy questions at the end. This was a disaster.

Guys, the question on AI applications. I feel the answer should be "1, 3 and 4". Because:

(1)the question asks applications at "present state of development".

(2)wireless transmission of electricity utilizes RFID/magnetic field coils which itself is a nascent technology and AI has no bearing on it at present.

(3)AI can write formulaic stories at present which can help for news reporting. Experts predict only by "2060" it would be able to write "bestsellers".

@Challenger_Deep Slog like you have never slogged before. I cleared pre 2019 by the skin of my teeth(got 98 exactly from official upsc key). But wasted so much time in speculation and indecisiveness which ultimately culminated in the disaster that was my mains 2019. I am only getting 84 this time so will now engage in some guilt free speculation before I start for 2021 again.

If you have attempted almost all questions and have left out doubtful questions for calculation of marks, I say go for it.

The best "evidence" of whether an exam was easy or tough is available in that 3 hour gap between paper 1 and paper 2. People already had an expectation of the difficulty levels of order of 2018 and 2019. Now, that's not exactly what you can call "easy". So people were mentally prepared already for a 2019 esque question. And even after that they were feeling burned and bummed by this years prelims.

Exactly shows how *easy* it was.

Cutoffs will be 93 esque. Jiska 95se upar hain, lag jao.  Ek toh ghatiya paper, upar se ghatiya turnout thanks to.covid.

Upsc will call round 10000 for mains anyhow.

@Witcher exactly, unnecessary glorification and social media limelight is the real culprit. The are other exams too, they don't get this much attention. Thanks to this internet revolution and thus, rise of social media (youtube is a market place now everybody is selling something). This need for validation and tags (IAS, IPS) is driving people insane that they are willing to let go of the best and most crucial years of life chasing these society defined so called prestigious jobs. People don't even realise how much they loose in this random process. I don't want to sound like a narcissist here bcoz i'm myself an aspirant. But I have learnt an important lesson this time, that is, don't loose too much in this process that you are not able to recover from that.

Carbon nanotubes conduct electricity. There is speculation that they can be used in heart, bones and even neurons or any nerve tissue used for signaling but not capillaries. But at the same time they are very stable and no conclusive data on them being biodegradable. What is the answer. Shankar key says all.

@KratosOfPUBG  bhai it is carbon based. biodegradable.

next time they may ask basics and facts found in books. This is UPSC. never forget that.

They did go basics in 2013 and cutoff soared that year. 2016 was easy too but not conventional basics
