[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

Because of the corona virus issue? If it does not happen then worst affected will be people whose interview is stuck, around 600-700 such people I think are yet to appear for their interview.

@neyawn sir and others, what is your take?

This is the official Thread for discussion of Prelims Postponement, Please do not create new threads for the same.

Last year I failed prelims (94 as per UPSC answer key). So I decided to quit.

Later joined a job.

Today just for fun downloaded the question paper and solved. Getting around 97.33.

This is what stress free approach does. Time to dust off and fight again, maybe. \m/

Last year's SC cut-off was 82, previous year's was 84, vs gen cat cut-off of 98 in both years. It's not unreasonable to expect the SC cut-off to drop a a couple points assuming the general cut-off drops (which definitely seems likely).

SC/ST cut-offs tend  to be more sensitive to unconventional, interpretation-heavy papers like this one was.

Upsc hasn't released the cutoffs for 2019, so how can you be sure that it was 82? What if they release the cutoff and it turns out to be above the expectations. Upsc 2019 key differed from coaching keys by a good 9-11 questions!!!!

Don't you think the answer is wrong for Indigo question, because UPSC asked about the beginning of 20th century, whereas the answer key of coaching institutes is giving the one that was the reason in late 18th century when technological progress declined our indigo export but in 20th century it was mainly the revolt against indigo cultivators and protest against system like nij and ryoti which led to decline in indigo cultivation. Both reasons are also given in NCERT.

Ye pichli br bhi log forum pr bol rhe the 103-104 arha h bht logo ka, one person said 107 arha h uska  and uska hogya  pre clear, n his frnd was getting 103 uska nahi hua... final upsc cutoff toh 98 tha.. inflate bh7 krte hain log best scenario se, n keys r also wrong. Kisi ko kuch nahi pta hai.

88.67 arha h mera forum key se. Shankar se 91.33 Gen UR. Kya pta thoda kismat sath de jaye 1 2 Question me, aur baki cutoff gir jae. Pichli br se girega cutoff, ye toh pakka h. N tough csat se bhi gs ka cutoff girega. I hope ye log special circumstance  consider krke Pre merit list jaldi nikale. Since mains k lie gap is also less.

PS. Is bar forum pr relatively shanti bhi jdi ho gyi h kya... like ppl hv accepted n settled...🤔

Yes u r correct. In new ncert it is given. In 1860 it was due to price fall but in 1910 onward it was due to farmers protest. However upsc can go either way.

@Rambo93 I am also on the border in CSAT , 31 correct out of 46 as per next IAS. I thought paper 1 didn't go well and CSAT got affected somehow :-(

GS marks are fine and above 100 as per two keys can't say if they are good to go,But right now I'm way too anxious regarding the CSAT scores.

@aknash20151351

@ank88 shared the UPSC's own link, which says cut-off was 82.

The uncertainty that you, @The_Renaissance_Man  and others from the SC/ST category are experiencing is doubly enhanced because there's no discussion at all happening here: most coaching centres putting out cut-offs either just skip the other categories or else do a blind general minus 10 = SC, SC -5 = ST approach (with very, very few speculating about PWD).

The two biggest factors in cut-offs are 1. the difficulty of the paper and 2. how people performed on the day.

I hate contributing to cut-off speculation, but since there's very little SC/ST speculation on this thread so far:

It's hard to see a scenario where SC/ST cut-offs are higher than last year's. The gap between SC/ST and general category cut-off tends to narrow in conventional papers that adhere to the usual set of books and tends to expand in papers that throw everyone for a toss, like the last 2-3 years' papers have been. IMO, this year's paper was even more off-base than last year's paper, so it's unlikely that the gap narrows, and it's unlikely that the gen cat cut-off rises.

All the same rules that apply to high-score discussion amongst gen-cat candidates apply even more so to sc/st scores. You will hardly see anyone posting about their 70s/80s scores because there's already a hesitation to post scores in the early 90s. That makes it really tough to get a gauge on what the sc/st market score is.

Faulty coaching keys are also not as big of an issue as people think. It's highly unlikely that someone is going to have benefitted from all 9 of ShankarIAS' errors during their calculations; that degree of correlation is just insanely bad luck. It's much more likely to have like 3 right and 3 wrong questions turn into 3 different right and wrong questions.
