Now that 1 week is over, it is time to shift focus to Mains. With barely 103 days left there is no time to waste.

@deceptrixI've never said that watermasses are formed only in deep waters. I've said most of them are formed in deep waters, plus the North Atlantic deep waters and Antarctic bottom waters can never explain maritime polar airmass formation above them.

Core geography knowledge is necessary now a days, don't know why but upsc has been asking such questions more so from 2017 with location of petroleum refineries, ocean salinity variations like vertical and horizontal. Similarly in 2019 like this watermass and Food processing industries which couldn't be explained without raw material, market, transportation, labour etc.

I understand its your first attempt, and that's why its quite normal to deviate from what has been asked either due to comparatively less knowledge or less practice. Still I wish you get average marks at least in this answer as you've drawn diagrams and wrote well for ocean currents.

Also this research paper net digging is a big fail, be it post prelims or post mains. Upsc works on logic and standard texts.

Hi i agree, i have not practised much and written out of my limited knowledge. Have to improve further. No expectations of very high marks but average marks only. Time will tell everything.

All the best to you and all! I wish every deserving candidate gets selected.

@deceptrixwish you the same.

And one more thing, one answer will never decide anything, maybe if the examiner overlooks, then you can get 50%+ marks in this answer also. What I really meant was to answer watermass impact and not deliberately link it with airmass just to show our innovation as airmass wasn't asked.

Even if we considered correlation between them, then airmass can never explain marine life impact which is specific to watermass.

Also you don't have to increase knowledge in this area of geography as it'd be a waste of time since your optional is different. Certain topics are specific where optional knowledge helps. Gain in one and loss in another so things are balanced.

Chill out till results, just 7 more days to go, don't overthink, you've got the potential, if not in this attempt, then in next maybe. There shouldn't be any hurry.

Hi guys.

Those who have been previously selected for interview round, what do you think are the definitive gauge to predict the selection? This was my first attempt.

My GS1 went well!
1 essay written superb and 1 essay okayish type.
GS2 went above average while GS3 went average.
Anthro Paper1 went well and 2nd paper above average.

Have not left a single question. And written mostly relevant answers. Except 3-4, 10 markers in GS2 & GS3 were not written well.

I fear that people who have written all answers with relevant and good content are only selected? Advise please.

Yes your fear is correct. Average, above average, superb are subjective, so no definite way to gauge your performance.

Can we pay our gratitude and thank you to UPSC for checking nearly 1 lakh copies in 60 days and provide us objective result. Why Other state PSC don't learn from UPSC, In many states results are pending for 4-5 years. Also UPSC provides us prelims result within 40 days.
BIG THANKS FROM MY SIDE for this crucial organization of great nation.

???LOVE U UPSC???

I also have a lot of respect for upsc though 4 a different reason. The way they set question is really commendable particularly in the last one year, they have tried their best to create a level playing field so that people like me who have never done any coaching stand a chance. Hats off to upsc.

true in last yr it has again proved that its indeed a very dynamic exam and way ahead of what coaching institutes can even think of
mjhe lgtahai 2017 ke gs 3 ke marks dekhke upsc walo ka khoon khaula hai

@dr-ahmednaaz8567agreed.Coaching institutes have captured almost all competitive exams, it's no longer a competition of intellect but a competition of means. Those who can afford fancy coaching easily sail through with minimum effort. The same Cannot be said about UPSC and that's what makes it's integrity indisputable. All hail the lords and ladies of UPSC who play God and let humans decide their own fate through hardwork and intellect.

but it too needs certain reforms like declaring ans keys for prelims after prelims so that ppl can decide their marks
optional remove krna chahiye
these all will make it more objective
pure sal khoon jaltahai jabtak logo ka name list me na ajye
