Now that 1 week is over, it is time to shift focus to Mains. With barely 103 days left there is no time to waste.
No mock interview ?? Cruel joke.
My friend had in 2016 n 2017 cutoff plus 50 marks. He's the only son n momma's boy type so parents didn't allow him to come to Delhi for interview preparation. Both the times he got marks in 130s. He has not been yet selected n changed the course of his career.
Now take a call whether to join or not.
Moral of the story:--UPSC preparation me jyada cheetah nhi banna chahiye, nhi to upsc kah k le leti h.
@DreadfulMy comment is sarcastic.
Yes bro, I got it.
To buttress your argument only I cited this real life horror incidence.
@vvvikas0078212no-one needs interview guidance. This is just personality test. Just be honest. Please don't come to Delhi. U will waste ur money.
UPSC CSE is a very easy exam. One topper said that while filling form he was not aware that there three stages of the exam (even my maid knows there are three stages). While selecting optional he just arranged all the optionals in order and used this trick "aada pada kisne pada, miyan ji ka ghora pada". the word pada came on PSIR. So he selected PSIR as his optional. Again he did not prepare for GS4. he wrote from reflections of his life. Also he didnot write a single essay before mains. He did very smart study n prepared GS1+2+3 and optional in the gap b/w prelims and mains. So in just 5 months he became IAS.
So if your IQ is upto the level of this IAS, then no need to come to Delhi for interview as well. Also if you have any financial issue you can well sell your house as last year one topper sold his house for preparation. if you don't have house then you will have to sell your kidney.
Thank you
@zombieland

@TETRACYCLINEIf pre answer key is declared, people will go to court and then upsc won't be able to complete process on time. Mains ke question jaise bhi ho, but pre ke question ka standard itna ghatiya ho gya hai ki luck based hai. You can't know the answer for sure in some questions even if you have all sources.
upsc ne level playing field banane ke chakkar main luck playing field bana diya hain,
at least pre main toh
I personally do not think pre 2019 was luck based. We can't solve question by just googling and sifting through books...It needs devoting ample time to study...analysing do question and applying concept...The issue is that for prelims one need to be 10 marks above expected cut off to beat a little bit of luck which is inevitable in any endeavour
@zombieland
And also they used to study only for 3 to 4 hour mostly in metro while commuting.
@dr-ahmednaaz8567
pre 2018 was very horrific and it became luck based
many repeaters didnt qualify but 2019 was much better though it was very difficult including csat
Bhai plz name the guy else can't stop laughing n can't digest it.
Its Manohar kahaniya type fictitious story or maybe exceptional one but certainly not a rule so can't n generalized. I remember my childhood days in Bihar where such false stories were replete to fool others.
Ye to Rapidex English speaking course ( speak English in a month) se bhi fast nikla re bhai.
Chacha Chaudhary se bhi tej dimaag ( jo khud computer se bhi tej tha). Means he was not IAS but India's fastest supercomputer I guess.
@RealMangoI am not even trying to concentrate

One thing we need to keep in mind is, we all have an eternal urge to show how much different we are from crowd. Many people are here who wants to join the services to show ki हम भी कुछ है. We need respect, recognition and reward for our uniqueness. And scientifically we all are same. Same specie, hame harmonal changes, brain of equal size and all.so, to show our uniqueness, we create such stories to show that im different than you
Result provides us such opportunity to showcase this uniqueness. We all know we normally study for 8 to 9 hours a day. **So 2 types of toppers emerges because of their eternal urge of uniqueness.
- Who says he studied for 18 hours a day while you moron could n9t cross a 8 houts barrier.
- Who says he cleared exam with daily 2 hours of preparation while you aam janta couldn't clear it with 8 hours of preparation**.
In both case, while accepting their story wr need keep in mind above issues. Otherwise that story could make us feel inferior (which toppers ultimately wants)
@Dreadfuli guess that person was Varun Baranwal,2013 batch IAS
Some people are Karun Nayar, who accidentally gets triple century (read success) but don't cross even 30s in next so many innings.
Even Tej Pratap Yadav (Lalu Yadav's) son became youngest health minister but now him being a psycho mental is an open secret.
Some success too r accidental.
Many go unprepared for gs4 but psir idk must be very difficult to complete in 4 months....anthro still could be completed at least once in 3 months.@zombieland
@vvvikas0078212great... without giving interview a perspective can't be developed and without giving mock test one can't prepare for pre or mains... pamphlet batwa dijiye lage haath aur do char package bhi bataiye
@spriyadarshiI don't know about pre or mains. Different people follow different strategies, but I don't see why one shouldn't take Mock interviews for preparation if he can. Prepare krna better hai na instead of sitting at home and for upsc interview, mocks are must to get feedback on that preparation.

Case of upsc cs, nayar and yadav all are different.
Nayar had the ability and thats why he could make up upto national team. He had a practice of years. He didnt hit the triple tonn accidentally in a single ball. He was consistent for whole of his inings. His downgraded performance thereafter has many reasons.
Yadav became the HM, not because of his ability but because of his birth in a yadavs family. That was luck factor afterall.
In upsc cs, you have to write 25000 words in mains. That cannot be a mere luck or accident. You cannot accidentally write the economic data or constitutional articles. You have to put the efforts. What you tell people can be a different story than what you feel yourself. This things are called as lieing, image management, or PR.
Agree to your point too but upsc is not altogether flawless n luck has a great role to play.
In interview in 30 minutes your whole life script decided. Marks ranging from 90 to 220. Isn't there luck factor ??
Ira Singhal got from 150s to 200s in her different attempts. Y?? Is personality so volatile ?
Even my IPS friend of 2015 batch got 2 previous interview scores in 190s but when selected had only 150. Reason ??
Mains too is vague. I won't go anywhere else, my experience itself is illustrative. I WAS GIVEN only 49 in paper 3 in 2015 but110 in 2016. Even I had all India highest score of 168 out of 300 in 2016 IFoS mains gs paper. Reason ??
In my first attempt in 2014 without writing a single essay I got 127 which is equivalent to 140s of 2017 but ended up in just 121 in 2016 mains after writing so many essays. Reason??
There r so many such discrepancies.
So please stop living in dream world n thinking everything is just perfect with upsc. It has its own limitations.
Just 2-3 papers n interview accidental marks can push one into IAS n you become like of Karun Nayar n Tej Pratap Yadav.
Exactly thats what i want to say. Upsc is not a black and white organisation. It has its colourful shades. Definately luck plays a role. Even i have faced it many times. But, mere luck is not what needed to clear exam. Hard work is the basis on which luck favours. Upsc has too much of loopholes which can be exploited for once gain. But choosing optional by aada paada koun pada is not one of them. At some extent you might do that betweem pub admin and psir or in between socio and anthro. But claiming to do thay from entire optional is utter nonsensical. So imnot saying upsc is fullproof but im saying ki such exaggerated claims can be demotivating for other ignorant beings.
