136 was in 2016, converted to 2020, it will be around 127. A very good mark any year.

@zombieland I feel conclusion can be skipped due to time issues, especially in 10 marks. But, intro seems to be so much wired in our systems that even time issues don't let us skip it. Also, feel with intri, answer would look very abrupt but without conclusion, not that much.

Its all about time managment and nature of question. In 15 markers IBC format shiuld be left only in exceptional cases.

But many 10 markers r very direct. There even if one dont follow penalty will not b higher. Moreover, tine gained by leavjng IBC format jn some questions can help in attempting more questions.

At the end ome should try to follow IBC format as far as possible. If there is time managmenet issue then IBC format can be left in some questions to cover more questions

Any idea how many of those who get recommended by upsc appear for the exam again.. I m talking about those who do not get IAS or IFS(it's obvious btw)

My personal opinion.. majority of them try to improve their rank..

But the question is.. how many of them succeed in making it to the list again..

VERY FEW...

Despite knowing what it takes to get into the list they struggle to secure a rank..

Doesn't that signify that this exam is very unpredictable..

Subjectivity of the evaluators and neck throat competition for each mark is what sums up the whole story..

Any comments folks...

Anudeep Durishetty is a good example. He was IRS 2014 but in 2015 mains got a low of 565. Maybe sometimes you just get lucky though hardwork is always there.

However, in next attempt he took a break year and revisited his whole approach to the exam and came with a 950 in mains 2017.

I think his blog is a treasure trove for aspirants. https://anudeepdurishetty.in/my-upsc-marksheet/

Anyone who has given mains in 2019 and 2020, how different was the marking pattern? Apart from ethics marking being stricter was there any difference at all??

Ever since I saw this essay question

Your perception of me is a reflection of you, and my response to you is an awareness of me

,I couldn't  but remember this epic scene from Rush Hour movie

Has anyone looked for some additional sources for Polity for Prelims, given how different the paper was in 2021 ?

@Apollo11 hi, please correct me if I’m wrong but there were only 2 questions that were obscure right ? Iyengar committee and I think the Devi Lal one ? The rest seemingly difficult ones can actually be done by just being more aware, revising Laxmikant well, reading newspaper well and using some common sense. And I say this as someone who definitely couldn’t use common sense and got few polity ones wrong.

But my point is that, the lesson here is to use more brains during those 2 hours than increasing sources. :)

@aa12 judicial custody and prison one?

@newworld I’m sorry but I don’t think they were complicated at all. Judicial and police custody we should know if not from general awareness ( difference b/w Police Thana and a jail) then at least from newspapers or movies etc. I don’t think it’s written out explicitly in any one book that we might come across during prep. Also in the context of article 20.

Also, if you think about it, parole/ custody etc have been in news so much in last couple of years with aryan khan, Umar Khalid etc. Devangana Kalita was on parole when her father died.
I fully understand that we don’t think all this during those 2 hours, in fact, I got federalism (v v easy) Q wrong. But that was because of exam pressure, not being calm/ confident. So yeah in my opinion no additional source needed. To each their own, though :)

@aa12 devilal was easy. i got it right by simple having assurity over other statements.
i couldnt get many s t questions like ace2 lemon grass etc

@Capedcrusader1 actually yes, you’re right. It had one statement about no of seats one can fight from. So I think except Iyengar, polity wasn’t difficult. Some might say ‘State’ one but I honestly think unnecessary confusion was created by coaching institutes and people on here who wanted to believe that there answer was right. Happened with other Qs as well.

Also, ACE2 was in news. The Hindu
