@Philip_Marlowe This trend is also visible in my optional.This time in paper 2 ,around 80 marks was bouncer, nowhere in the books and there was no choice left but to attempt them.

Kuch subject me jyaada hai kuch me kam

Over the years, increase in toughness is visible across all papers but randomly some subjects r very tough in certain years.

It becomes a matter of luck then.
People will say ki scaling will take care of toughness of paper but its not justified. 
In a very tough paper,the marks of toppers of that subject get reduced vis a vis other subjects. 
Average marks will be same though. 
If History or Geography of a particular year is too tough, eventually the topper of that subject suffer the most.

Funny thing is, people keep on flocking to history,1) thinking there's so much overlap in prelims and GS1, 2) the nostalgia factor from school days, when history was full of stories of kings and queens and could be read like a novel. By the time they realise that 1) you can't complete syllabus if you study factually and 2) UPSC don't give a damn about kings and queens, two years must've gone by. Then comes the sunk cost fallacy: now that I've spent two years in this, I'd rather continue with this, and not take risk with something new🤐😂

gs1: there is difference between difficulty and comfortability. a question may look easy in the first go but when one starts to write, he discovers the many layers of the question and finds it tough to answer it. true for almost all questions.

@zombieland when i look at rau ias solutions, it seems that i have written only a fraction of what they are answering. they should provide a caveat that their answers are meant to score 15/15 and 10/10 and that its not practically possible to execute that much in exam

Model answers are good for notes making. They should not b treated as wat one should write in exam.
