Mains 2021 Result declared - In or Out?

Hi guys! my throat is acting up a little, hopefully it’s just because of the weather and early morning routines but in worst case scenario, what happens if someone gets Covid? Are there any separate arrangements?

Just read UPSC guidelines, it says two separate rooms shall be available but someone here said that they sent back candidates at Dholpur house. I’m in Lucknow, if someone has any idea/ experience, kindly share

Thanks everyone, glad to know they won’t send me back or whatever.
Hopefully it’s nothing & I should be fine asap
all the best to you all :)

I actually screwed up last year’s CSAT because of this Covid scare, it was just viral but I didn’t qualify and I can’t believe it’s happening again.

Hey guys! People who have given mains before, what do you think about these analysis by vision ias? I have watched them before but I hadn’t written mains last year.. so I liked their in depth Solutions etc.

but this time it’s giving me anxiety…. I know obviously they didn’t prepare the answers in 3 hours, exam situation but … can anyone tell me roughly.. what % of content/answers should match with their analysis to feel content (to whatever extent possible) ? I hope you all understand what I’m trying to say/ask..

@krishna96 hahah 2-3 people have assumed I’m a brother hahaha, it’s sister :p

and yeah you’re right, I’m trying to chill but it’s really stressful. Like just watched Paper 2 ka for few mins, they said you ‘should’ mention section 6 of DPSE act in the CBI question to get marks.
now I’m wondering if I’m the only one who didn’t know about that?

@Celeborn right, this makes a lot sense. It’s not like they would have thought of it all in those 3 hours. One last doubt, so I only watched the first question of GS 1, which was about reforms. Has anyone written about the factors of rise of reforms, that vision ias talked about? I have only mentioned various reform, orgs etc, and then details about young Bengal and Brahmo samaj. I mean first of all the actual paper is smaller than those test series sheets, I felt plus 150 words and time pressure, how can we be writing it all?

@Apollo11 hi, please correct me if I’m wrong but there were only 2 questions that were obscure right ? Iyengar committee and I think the Devi Lal one ? The rest seemingly difficult ones can actually be done by just being more aware, revising Laxmikant well, reading newspaper well and using some common sense. And I say this as someone who definitely couldn’t use common sense and got few polity ones wrong.

But my point is that, the lesson here is to use more brains during those 2 hours than increasing sources. :)

@newworld I’m sorry but I don’t think they were complicated at all. Judicial and police custody we should know if not from general awareness ( difference b/w Police Thana and a jail) then at least from newspapers or movies etc. I don’t think it’s written out explicitly in any one book that we might come across during prep. Also in the context of article 20.

Also, if you think about it, parole/ custody etc have been in news so much in last couple of years with aryan khan, Umar Khalid etc. Devangana Kalita was on parole when her father died.
I fully understand that we don’t think all this during those 2 hours, in fact, I got federalism (v v easy) Q wrong. But that was because of exam pressure, not being calm/ confident. So yeah in my opinion no additional source needed. To each their own, though :)

@Capedcrusader1 actually yes, you’re right. It had one statement about no of seats one can fight from. So I think except Iyengar, polity wasn’t difficult. Some might say ‘State’ one but I honestly think unnecessary confusion was created by coaching institutes and people on here who wanted to believe that there answer was right. Happened with other Qs as well.

Also, ACE2 was in news. The Hindu

It’s so weird that few days after the Mains, everyone here was like ‘we can’t predict marks at all, it’s different each year’ and now suddenly im seeing these comments and getting anxious 😭😭

How do you guys know? I absolutely have no idea… especially for Essay/ Ethics. Only thing I know for sure is GS 3 me bilkul ache nahi khayenge 😭

@Capedcrusader1 sab predictions kar rahe hain one after the other.. pata nahi kaise. Because all the people I’ve talked to, and also from state PSC experience, always the opposite of expectations happens.

@Capedcrusader1  does that not happen always in all exams? I mean for example, there are 70 IAS UR posts and a SC candidate gets AIR 10. In final allocation list, they’ll  be counted among the 70 UR because it’s unreserved, not really for  ‘general’ students as we like to say.

That’s what I thought happens… correct me if I’m wrong.

@Sopranos Oh, that makes sense. But then shouldn’t it mean this - for example, there are 70 UR seats for IAS. In top 70, there are 5 Reserved category students w/o the $ sign- which means they are not taking UR seats, as per you. So shouldn’t general students upto rank75 be able to get IAS ? (Let’s assume no IPS / IFS in involved )

Anyone with history optional? What is the general opinion? While the paper, I know, can’t exactly be called difficult, it wasn’t very straightforward either, right? The first paper ? Good standard of questions, in my opinion.

@RaGa yeah, I agree. So we can’t really say the paper was easy & it wouldn’t be too stupid  to hope for lenient marks? 😅
 In fact I messed up medieval India 10 markers because of time, so god help me. If you have any past experience, does filling pages matter in optional?

@Sopranos I’m a first timer only so can’t exactly comment on its relative difficulty.  Because all the past year papers seem easy while seating at home 😅

there wasn’t any question that I went blank on, in both the papers.  But by not easy I mean, the questions weren’t straightforward and it won’t be easy to score good. For example, they asked ‘stages of feudalism’ ; varna-Samkara; one should have REALLY REALLY studied well to answer well.

@Duryodhan UPSC mains first time.

@RaGa any idea, why they put a political map for one year and then back to physical the next? Taking randomness to the next level

@Soprano yeah, fair enough.

@Duryodhan Sorry , I understand the feeling. Today was the first time I went to back the Mains papers after January 17th. That too only because people here were guessing their marks, which made me anxious.

@Admgenalanezh I am only commenting on those toppers’ jinki multiple copies I’ve seen (at least 2 from each paper) and yes, I do think they write well. By well I don’t mean jargon and something extraordinary.. but  better than the rest in terms of content, composition, relevance. (eg- Vaishaka (Singh?), Akshat Jain, Ria Dabi, Tina Dabi (acc to 2015 standards), Ankita (AIR 3 this year).
However, I absolutely don’t agree with the test series ‘best copies’ that vision / forum upload. Sometimes I think people have written those answers after going through the coaching solutions… coaching people want to stick to very narrow conventional content. And for some reason they love it when the innovation is shown in the way of writing (flow charts etc) giving content a backseat. So many times when I’ve scored less in test series and went on to compare with best copies, I felt like the evaluation has been really average & borderline unfair.

@aa12 I think  Kanishak Kataria also said something similar about coaching evaluation. Another example is Chandrajyoti Singh. If you see her answers, they’re far from the conventional ‘coaching template’, both in optional as well as GS. Ends up getting AIR 28 with History !

@masteroptimist nothing deep. Just that she was the first batch (I think) of this new pattern. And because of her humanities and good educational background, she had an upper hand in answer writing than rest of people that year. She wasn’t the only one though, includes another girl topper as well form that year, who was a doctor. Forgot her name, sorry.
 But now most people know how to write, not exclusive to humanities students

@fakirgyan yeah, you stole my words. Totally agree.

@RaGa yeah, you’re right. But her SSH marks were still very less for someone who scored in 130s and 140s in the actual exam.

Since, we’re discussing questions now. Can anyone tell me tribal knowledge me kya likhna tha? GS 1
2.9k views
@aa12 I haven’t watched any analysis from vision or anywhere. I think it’s better to trust people who thought and wrote in real time.

@musk oh wow, very detailed. I’ve written a very generic answer. In sync with nature etc etc. don’t even remember anymore.

@Forumite the worst part is I knew all this at the back of my mind but it was the second last question that I attempted, couldn’t recall specific points at the time.
