Mains 2021 Result declared - In or Out?

Is not being able to attempt 1-2 questions because you have absolutely no idea of what it is, a phenomenon specific to geography optional or is it the same across the board?

Mathematics giving you a high five. Though inability in attempting only 1-2 questions looks like a lucky day for an average maths aspirant :P

@DM daily recommended intake is 0.8g/ kg. Some say it should be increased to 1g/kg. By various surveys Indians consume less than 0.2g/kg protein

Does consuming chickpeas/chana/matar etc as a salad (just boiled and taken with a few other vegetables or fruits in a big bowl) as meals cover for some part of the protein requirement?
Or is it necessary to take supplements?
I have heard some people say that it messes up with the oil glands and lead to breakouts. Is there some truth to that?

@chamomile it doesn’t mess up with any bodily function. Supplement is only if your unable to meet requirements through food. Dm me if you want to know more about this dieting stuff. I would like to share on this page itself if there’s a general interest about that kind of stuff for people here

Yeah please do share! Learning about nutrition and meal planning has been number 1 on my list of "essential things to be learnt to live a healthy life" :P. Especially after I decided to start strength training.
Alternatively, there could be a separate thread for nutrition and health-related stuff if that is convenient.

@Shailputri I think there is a big misconception that working out make women look manly. That is why there’s a genera reluctance among women in working out. Hope to see that attitude change in coming days

In the videos that I use for working out, the trainer keeps on repeating the benefits and essentiality of strength training. So I finally gave it a go post prelims. Basically, started with the BWF primer of Reddit and eventually started doing some other exercises too. Though my strength level is still very basic. I am barely able to finish a routine with 1 kg of a dumbbell in each hand, but I mains made me realise how much my body has improved.

During prelims in csat session I had complete bodily exhaustion midway during the exam and had back pain for a day or two after it. Fast forward to mains, where we had to write 5 papers of 3hr each on three consecutive days, my body didn't face much of a problem. Especially the back which used to take a hit even with a very low amount of stress. Of course, the fingers were in a bad position but kassandra's wrist yoga kind of helped in that by making it manageable.
So guys, irrespective of gender, Strength training in particular and workout, in general, has immense benefits for each and every individual (except in situations where it is explicitly prohibited or if you doing a wrong form or any such thing).

I read a study where it says that the number of calories burnt on a thread mill is less than just jogging outside given same speed and duration of time. I dont like doing cardio in a gym. Gym only for muscle toning.

Do machines also have calorie issue?
I heard that most of the times changing engine oil making the machine as good as new. Isn't it the case for a machine gun? :P :P

Anyone can suggest good books to read? Something that can actually keeps mind occupied. Non fiction

Fareed Zakaria's 10 lessons for the post-pandemic world is great, short, crispy and fun to read.

Anyone with mechanical engg optional here? how was the paper?

During the break after the paper1, one guy asked me for my question paper (maths). I was very confused as to what possibly might be the purpose. So I asked him and he said he has mechanical optional and wants to see it for revision/pattern/overlap. I could hardly understand what he said but handed him my paper. He went through it for quite some time and gave it back to me, said thanks and then vanished.
I am still very confused about what possible benefit could the maths optional paper-1 have for the mechanical engg optional paper-2. Do you have any idea about it?

Which monthly magazine do you guys refer to?
I used to refer to vision but it is getting too overwhelming these days. Even the mains 365 was not of much significance. Any recommendation for crisp and fluff-free magazine out there?

Maths optional guys, how it went?

Somewhere between averagish and horrible. Not expecting much.

@Master  didn't have enough time to finish the syllabus, despite giving 80-90% time between prelims and mains to Maths only. could not attempt 110 marks worth of optional paper as a result. Attempted what I had studied decently well.
So, expecting a below average score overall.

300 plus club now seems a Ponzi scheme to me 😀 Few people got past that mark. And we the gullible people are lured to it. Understanding concepts and writing in the exam hall are two very different things even in Maths. Now things depend upon scaling. Let's see!

Even last year, I only saw Utkarsh Kumar cross the 300 barrier, the rest were in the 270-299 range. So that gives a little hope that the optional in general is not performing well and it's not only us who have screwed the paper.:P :P

Which monthly mag are you referring to?

I used to refer to vision but it is just getting too overwhelming with all the news in shorts stuff and putting everything under the sun in it. What could be a suitable replacement?

I checked out the forum one. It was short around 70-80 pages and neatly organised. However, in the intro, it was written that it would act as a supplement to ca class students and mgp ones. My concern is that if I am not a ca course student, would I miss any important issue which would have been covered by their ca course?

I have been referring to it. Don't think that you need to be a CA student. When I asked Sir what was the reason for mentioning it, he smiled and said - "It is a business decision.".

Thanks, it looks really time-saving and neatly organised!
Wondering if the business decision is meant to draw students towards the CA course or drive them away from magazine :P :P

Thanks for this.

Hill House is my all-time favourite show (even more than Mrs Maisel and the office, though they fall in a different genre altogether). It has a mix of everything- emotions, tragedy, horror, family bonds, love and amazing metaphors. Even after watching it for the 5th time, its beauty still remains unparalleled.
If you like it, you can check out the Reddit thread of it later. There, a user has written the background of each of the ghosts (more like their interlinked story/feud and how the house started feeding on the people).
But without that also, the story of Crains is way too engrossing in itself with the amazing cinematography.

I bought netflix on Jan 17th . I didnt watch even a minute. Is there a word for too many choices making us indecisive? Will this thread judge me?

Do machines get affected by the judgement of mere mortals?

Am I the only one who has forgotten what exactly I wrote in the exam? There are very few questions that I can recall very clearly. For mostly I only have a rough idea while a few I am completely blank.

@Philip_Marlowe,@Dip, as per your experience, would it be a bad decision to put IA&AS over IRS?

I've seen some videos where I got to know that in IRS though intake is low these years, is a bottom-heavy service. Hence slow promotions. IA&AS on the other hand is the only central service apart from IFS which gets promotions timely at the same level as all India services. Also, the work seems to be interesting with further specialisation into environmental or social audits.

Which all coaching mocks have a good panel and don't post the videos on youtube?

Nowadays nearly all have started posting them on youtube which is a bummer for underconfident, confused and awkward people.

Asking for a friend.
