Mains 2021 Result declared - In or Out?

guys i probably made a blunder in essay. Hands that rock the cradle rule the world I ignored hindi translation and misinterpreted it. I thought rock means destroy, so I talked about population control for global welfare and all. Rocking the cradle I thought population control. :(

real is rational rational is real was intellectually most challenging. I am happy I did not know it was written by hegel despite being psir student (which is good since hegel is not part of psir syllabus and if someone frm psir still studies it then god bless them) as that would have clouded my creative imaginations. This also enabled me to start creatively instead of bringing hegel's ugly head in the introduction itself. However I did link  thinkers indulging in investigations on reason and reality including hegel in my essay but went much beyond his stupid philosophy. This also helped me to create my own philosophy which I put forward as :-

"Knowledge is the principal threat to castles of imagination"

5.3k views
@D503 exactly hegels dialectical materialism being philosophical basis of marx but marx being inspired by faeurbach for historical materialism and unlike hegel who believes consciousness being basic of all historical change and force for all social institutions, marx believed its your existence which determines your consciousness  i.e. material conditions of life determine historical change which is driven by mode of economic production all that is good. but if we learn real is ................ by hegel such in depth study of hegel is unnecessary and even counter-productive

@Declared_Dead  one 10 marker in gs1 , one 10 and 15 marker each in gs2, 2 ten marker and one 15 marker in gs3 and one 15 marker in optional total 85,  last time I attempted all questions each and every in all 9 papers  even language (lol) yet missed interview call by 6 marks. Despite attempting all in gs1 i got 70, 72 in gs2 and 79 in gs3.  This time I straightaway left questions i had no idea, eg. earn and learn scheme, american equality, gdp changes, led, who air lasagna and tried my best to attempt easy ones or moderate ones better. I personally feel in an exam of such large magnitude focus should more be on quality. missing few questions here and there doesnt matter.

further in 10 or 15  marker question where you had less knowledge or time to attempt them you dont actually miss 10 or 15 marks but 3or 4 marks. So we should not inflate the magnitude of loss that is accrued due to skipping the questoins. In short i dont think personally based on my experience that missing questions worth 160 marks is a big issue "Provided" other questions have a good decent quality. so dont feel guilty bro cheer up :D

but yeah if you have missed one whole essay out of two, then its entirely different story hehe

jab koi kisi 10 marker prashna ko gyan ya samay ke abhaav hetu chhodta he to "Technically" wo 10 mark ka prashna chhodta he lekin "Actually" wo 3 ya 3.5marks ka chhodta he, utna jitna use us prashna me milta gar wo us prashna ko attempt kar pata.

As plato says reality is shadow of ideas. estimate of loss as 10 mark is a reality which is merely a shadow of idea i.e. the true reality which is 3 or 3.5 marks. (application of philosophy to achieve some mental peace :D  )

@sstarrr 1. prepare limited material well, refer to anudeep durishetty or other toppers for material related guidance anudeep has excellent blog 2. take good sleep a night before exam even if that comes at cost of revising pending spectrum hands down 3. have confidence in yourself in exam, bouncers are there but it's on you to decide whether you fall prey to them or enjoy the advantage of lower cutoff they bring with them 4. when you make notes of mock test or any notes  of newspaper etc. for pre, remember that you will have to revise them many times so keep them very very very very concise 5.in exam i took a 10 minute break and did self counseling, motivated myself it may sound filmy but it worked in 2021 pre 6 don't panic if you aren't able to recall something just skip those questions and attempt at last like the "lender of last resort one" 7 have the faith that there are enough questions in the paper to let you sail through, don't let your performance in moderate and easy questions be affected by the intimidation accrued due to difficult, random or factual questions that are sprinkled here and there in the paper

Unpopular opinion : I hate drawing diagrams except in geography questions because it is hard to put down definitions in that diagram. In a circle, i can draw different sectors and put the points..but there is no space to explain them. Also perhaps .....the paper is descriptive.

agreed, infact there have been many toppers clearing exam without drawing flowchart and diagrams. i think evaluator is too mature to be tricked by diagrams here and there. if content is up to the mark, these rudimentary things don't matter

well he built the team in his own image and I feel there is a lack of natural leadership after him. I’m not sure KL Rahul will be that indispensable player himself who will be the long term leader. Like when Dhoni was getting old we all could see the natural leader emerging in Virat…now there is a massive vacuum. I think we as Indian fans should expect a period of slump before things fully settle

"natural leader" my foot.  Infact india is suffering from natural leadership deficit since dhoni because kohli himself is as incompetent a captain as a man can be, and even worse as a leader. when will you come out of this GREAT KOHLIAN ILLUSIONARY SPHERE mate. The records in international championship are in front of you. This BHAKTI in cricket has to stop.

Rohit was having below par career and was not a team regular till 2013 champions trophy. At that time Kohli appeared to be a natural choice for captain.

He has a stellar record as a captain and a player but the issue is he did not focus on nurturing players. Thus the chaos which we are witnessing today.

Just to give you the example, see the picture which was clicked by me. The chimney is there on the left side but emitting harmful gases from there would mean that the data captured will nullify any work on pollution. Solution? Just emit all the gas from the pellets, being put on the conveyor belt directly into the atmosphere during the early shift. That can be seen on the right side of the picture. Those gases have harmful SO2(reason of their yellowish colour), Pb, Cd, CO, Co2, PM 2.5.10 everything.

Impact of digital technology as reliable source of input for rational decision making is a debatable issue. Critically evaluate with suitable example.

How you attempted it in such haste. It says impact being debated. And, then puts critically evaluate and examples too in question header.

in positives i wrote about"anticipatory governance", use in planning and policy formulation, eg disaster management by hazard mapping done by digital modelling tools, etc in negatives i wrote about how lack of digitalsation is itself a problem in India, issues of data security as well as obvious limitations of digital technology. I wrote about failure of bhawantar bhugtan Yojana in madhya pradesh due to lack of digitisation of land records.

i wrote more but I'd be honest i am unable to recall anything else rn

A general doubt

In GS answers ,I answered the core aspect and maybe add another dimension either social/economic in most question that's the maximum dimensions I must have presented

Some model answers suggest all PESTEL dimensions , will that approach fetch more marks even when questions were too specific ?

it is to be remembered that folks preparing model answers take use of internet, spend hours researching, discuss and make answers working in group.

I strongly feel such facilities are not legally available to people writing the actual exam. further pestel has her own limitations. for instance it is difficult to write about problem of sexual harrasment at workplace dimension in question of blue led or talk about climate change in question related to terrorism. it is likewise difficult to talk about art and culture dimension in question of cbi, as it is equally difficult to mention about space science dimension in question of nhrc.

Don't ever compare to people making model answers. they possess the luxuries we don't and ever won't.

Which paper did this question come in? 😂 I don't even remember writing an answer for a question like this fml

Retrospectively, I think I'm being too hard on my self. We wrote ~110 answers and hundreds of mock answers before that. Just about having 7/11 minutes to think of a question and absolutely no time to go back to think about a question after one test is over. Pretty natural imo 😂 especially general questions.

I read a very beautiful quote in a game called "duet" which was :-

"Nothing else matters just this moment".

After writing upsc cse main I realised the quote wasn't essentially romantic

@captainhaddock Part of GS4

Damn. GS4 seems like a dream. More like a hangover. A terrible one.

Gs4 is as such designed to be "The Great Headache" . the way it's created, it will continue to haunt cse aspirants year after year. Whether the question is of time management or about cent percent assurance of having written decent answer, aspirants will never get a clear breakthrough to these questions no matter how hard they try. why? because the paper, it's syllabus, it's flavour everything is designed in such manner. It's so subjective so fluid so unique paper, in many ways it's worthy of being termed as a "Humble Tyrant"  :)

I wonder how members here can recall the points they have written in the answer sheet..

I don't remember if I came across this question 😂😂

people are able to recall their points only when they know what they have written which usually happens when one is able to manage time well. if one has written those answers in "great time deficit situation" it's not possible to recall much possibly because in matters of exigency it's far better to act than to think(hannah arendt).

The forum is so quiet ...

Atleast no nonsense utterances take place here as on tele group... utterly low level texts are posted there.. I don't feel like opening tele now...

Experts may please shed some light on expected mains cut off this year.. how did you find as compared to 2019/2020 paper...

I'm not expert but another helpless aspirant. I strongly feel the reduction in cutoff in 2020 was antithetical to level of difficulty w.r.t. 2019. In other words, 2019 papers were tougher in aggregate than 2020, but  what would have made a difference is the marking related instructions to the evaluators.

My understanding of papers is

1. essay :- difficult than 2020 ( it's not just abstract, the quality of abstraction also increased unnaturally)

2.gs 1 easier than 2020

3. gs2 easier than 2020 if we look at quality of questions and depth of demand of questions of 2020, deeper than Mariana trench ( not even joking)

4. gs3 2020 was a child's play, elite school students of 9th class would get those questions as summer assignment. 2021 was hopelessly difficult.   "exact who guidelines" in terms of hard statistics, blue led, gdp metrics, technical statistics of that air defence system, and specifics of "glasgow gamble" were "soul shattering". So no match (atleast from my perspective and from perspective of common sense)

5. gs 4 - pretty much same 13 questions were easy but that is balanced by unique demands in case studies, where course of action was usually not asked but mere analysis of options available in 5 pages posed some challenge.

6. language - language to sabka ho jata he

7. optional- apna apna dekh lo, mere psir ke to asaan aae the  is baar

overall i hate to say this, but 2021 seemed to be easier as conpared to 2020, just like 2020 was easier as compared to 2019.

but we have seen from falling cutoff from 2019 to 2020 despite falling difficulty level , that aggregate complexity of papers is not the decider. the decider is the "instructions" given to evaluators regarding marking. that is the talisman. therefore it's not much use speculating cutoff since that talisman is beyond us all.

5.3k views

Has anyone of you improved more than 100 marks in mains?

Do you know any toppers who were able to do this without skipping an attempt..?

Scoring 100+ in GS is not so easy..

It sounds easy but needs a lot of hard work to reach 3 digit figures...

can totally relate. missed interview call by 6 marks because of gs papers in 2020 ruined them all despite godly performance in essay and above average performance in optional. never trust gs, they are bewafa papers. essay and optional are marriage material, trust them give them time and efforts and they will be by your side even in tough times. hoping to atleast experience interview this time, can't say anything beyond that because not convinced about gs this time again :(

I disagree with you, repeaters have luxury of experience and meticulous evaluation of their experience alongwith the knowledge of their marks in each subject facilitates performance gauging

Speculating cut off of a subjective paper is meaningless, as you will have to speculate on the marking pattern as well, unlike an objective exam like prelims. So it becomes speculation on speculation😅

Bro.. the cut off prediction is done assuming marking will be done as last year...

If any paper is checked strictly or marked liberally.. then cut off may rise or fall in the same proportion.. as all aspirants almost gain/lose similar marks...

Since you are experienced, I'd like to ask something. If marking is done liberally like in ethics 2019, would attempting all questions not put the aspirant at greater advantage in such situations than attempting one or two less but rest ones with precision and depth.

@masteroptimist people who write mains first time, even they cn evaluate themsleves then.papers across years are as it is not comparable nor is the marking pattern. the only thig then anyone (first time or repeater) can do his match his mock performance and his final performance.

completely agree, apologies for making mistake, gratitude for correction

@Declared_Dead  another question broda, i wrote 15 markers first then 10 markers so obviously 10 marker answers were not so charming and attractive, do you think a thing like first impression exists in evaluation?

4.2k views
@Akkku my font size is usually big. and increases as i increase speed. so in most questions, page filling was there

i also believe in filling pages being a engineering student

4.2k views
@masteroptimist i feel that in 3hours, there is no time to think. pick up pen and start writing. now if i know a question well, the relevant points usually start blinking in my mind which are incorporated in answer. In other questions, im hard wired to write intro body conclusion. By the time intro is done, some points usually enter my point. That will make answer average (i think). But in any case, all questions are to be answered.

don't go with extreme statement pal. people have cleared this exam and scored first rank despite leaving few questions. people have failed to enter interview despite answering all. your extreme statement may misguide other fresh aspirants so be careful with choice of words. your last sentence is extreme.

4.1k views
@Capedcrusader1 While attempting all questions is always advisable, it is not a necessity. I mean leaving any question for want of time is unpardonable but leaving questions for which you have simply no idea is not a sin as such. I know people who have gotten top 50 ranks with 18/19 attempts in GS.

that's my point. extreme statements tend to confuse freshers who may take such unnecessary sentences seriously and brain-train themselves to attempt all. Ira singhal mam scored first rank and she concedes that she skipped questions she didn't know.

my whole point is to avoid extreme statements not only in prelims exam but also in real life.

4.1k views
@masteroptimist also, if you dont attempt like 2 questions completely, you basically left arounf 4x2 =8 marks per paper if you left 10 marker and likewise for 15 marker. Now, while writing an average answer is not a herculean task in itself, completing all 20 questions is a huge difficulty. Unless you answered those 18 questions to the best possible way there is (by taking more time ofcourse), leaving questions is nothing less than suicidal. and exceptions are not rule.

forget leaving questions, even failing entire exam isn't suicidal, there's life beyond this exam. let's agree to disagree

4.1k views
In some questions I have not written conclusion, mostly 10 marker. Will that affect my marks?

if you write in paragraphs, last paragraph automatically becomes conclusion :p

4.6k views

Nothing to worry..

Time crunch is so much that we tend to forget key points sometimes leave alone the conclusion..

In the microfinance question.. I knew that malegam committee is related to it and I should mention it.. so I wrote in the question paper to write it in the body of the answer..

And guess what..

When I finished the paper and submitted it I saw the question paper again to realise that I missed writing it..

So what is done cannot be undone.. that's the beauty of the exam..

It's a race which u must enjoy and not feel pain due to minor shortcomings

now i realise how tough competition is. malegam didn't even cross my mind😂😂

I am a working professional. Have covered all GS paper syllabus roughly. Made notes of some topics (mostly GS2 and GS3). Have written 8 mock tests of Vision , but not in stipulated time.

Should I be focussed on prelims only from now? I am in dilemma because even after pre, 3 months are quite less.

Any suggestions ? Mains written/qualified people ?

if you have never cleared prelims as you mentioned and this is your last attempt as you mentioned and if you are still thinking about mains and getting confused as you mentioned then god bless you.

@masteroptimist You told about writing in paras. How was gs score ? And, all questions in para ? subheads ?

I was just joking, I never told write in para, I just said ""If"" you write in paragraph, last para automatically becomes conclusion

@masteroptimist how was your essay this year since all topics were abstract? Did anudeep's book help you?

How was my essay? Only ""Insiders"" know that. btw insiders also know when the life on earth will end, next financial crisis arise or who came first hen or egg.

@Declared_Dead Exactly, such precise infos show the credibility. 🤐 One such insider who is also admin in such groups and in past has given credible info told me about seeing his answer copies. 😌😌

I m unable to decipher whether it is statement in support of insiders or mockery of them...

That's not a statement in support. Clearly not, pal.

With the amount of absurdity regarding copy evaluation being discussed, someone should also come up and claim that the examiners roll dice and give marks accordingly. :)

Ese hi WhatsApp ne india me forwards limit nahi kie  Log chahe pan ki dukan par baithe ya upsc ki tayyari kre, afwaahe (aisi baatein jinka evidence ya proof nahi hota) to failaenge😂😂

Have a look regarding evaluation

i have already watched it before, it's useless because

1.that man didn't tell anything new

2. he was talking about optional whereas people are more concerned about gs

In 2019, i was confident of gs 1, was hoping to get 95, instead got 65, gs 2 went pathetic was expecting 60-70 and got 65 here too. There is simply no way I still can't compare how both the papers got similar marks.

But i have learnt one thing, that it's useless to think about marks once it's over. Sometimes feeling of elation after attempting may also be false. Better to simply focus on the task ahead and work for that, ie pre and interview prep, but we all know it's easier said than done.

What factors made u believe that you will score well in gs 1 in 2019..

How were your papers in 2020 and 2021...

I also came across a post somewhere.. the candidate was expecting 100+ .. drew 3 world maps for better presentation.. ended up getting 57 in gs 1..

""""""""drew 3 world maps for better presentation.. ended up getting 57 in gs 1.."""""""

to a person like me who drew zero flow charts, maps or diagrams in any paper, this gives me HOPE 😂😂

I believe it is easy to identify certain questions as tough.. like S400, GDP, WHO

But the other questions which we believe to have written well are not so simple and direct either..

It is the impression of familiarity with the questions which make us categorise the questions as tough or easy.. but marking pattern may be otherwise

totally agree, element of familiarity strongly shapes our opinions. we tend to consider familiar questions as automatically and hopelessly easy just like ***ghar ki (tandoori)murgi daal barabar(caves)***

First mains ,gave just iasbaba free mock a week before mains and few pyq on my own

In the few mocks I wrote ,I was struggling to complete 17 questions (marks were around 80) due to time constraints

But on the day of exam, I started attempting from 15 m and then 10m in GS ,in essay I just alloted 5 min for structure formation

Surprisingly I completed all questions on time and had 9-10 minutes remaining during which I added any missing terms ,underlining double underlining heading and terms like it's done in school

I'm sure that neither quality of answers nor handwriting was relevant and legible enough

The person sitting next to me gave a weird look like how the heck  you got time to underline stuff even in Ethics😬

I know the marks cannot be predicted but I'm really afraid on finishing fast my papers although the average content and legible handwriting was there ,did anyone else experience similar surprising powers in exam hall ?

This is great..

You are the first candidate I m coming across who claimed to have completed the papers 10 minutes before the scheduled time..

You can teach us on time management..

I also had the fortune of completing my second optional 10 minutes before time and guess what my score was below 100 in it 😂😂

Psir not doing well this year yeh speculation chl rhi h

Wo toh pichle 2 saal se History optional bani hui hai. While people in a thro are easily scoring 250, humare toppers 250-70 me fasse hue hai.

Edit - speculation ek dum galat hai. Meri gut feeling hai is bar PSIR me bhut log 300 paar 😆😆

Bhai tumhare muh me ghee shakkar

i have heard from some people that result could be due this week. Is it true? any one has any updates, i have exited all the telegram groups so im woefully unaware.

That is just to make mahaul..

I don't think results will come before 20 March..

Looks like speculation season is peaking

Don't expect before march end..

SC may delay the result due to pending case..

The interests of those who missed the exam due to covid must be protected..

What was their mistake in this..

Think about those whose last attempt got affected adversely..

This is gross injustice.. mains should be conducted again for those who have solid evidence of covid positive and missed the exam.

and what about those who gave the exam? is it correct to let them wait and waste their time for a few who missed the exams probably for not following covid protocols else how will you get covid obviously?

If I  used hindi/sanskrit quotes in devnagari script in the essay, while the medium opted was English..

Will it backfire??

Only 2 such quotes used.. regretted later

you are very lucky that I came across your post. i used one quote (shloka) in intro in 2020 essay, scored above average,so it won't backfire rest assured

guys whats up with ganging up on someone like that?

preaching morals with unnecessay quotes. how about learn to take others views too?

im in no way speaking for him, but what if he knew those questions others didnt know?

I have deep respect for you to stand up against this moral preaching. these "Ambassadors of cosmetic morality" and their attempts to stifle freedom of speech and expression by forming "Cartels of Morality" online on such forums has ruined everything.

Never ever abandon your freedom of speech and expression under cumulative pressure of any "snowflakes"

Excuse me folks..

I m not trying to be arrogant here..

Someone asked about my mains ,,so I said..

I m not claiming any rank.. I am guessing my performance in quantitative manner.. that's all..

I have tried my best this year..

Already scored 135, 141 in essay in earlier attempts..

258 in optional..

So please don't blame me for being overconfident..

I have said what I feel about my performance..

I don't mean to hurt sentiments of anyone..

I don't understand one thing..

People saying that I ruined my paper.. everyone gives sympathy to the person..

If someone says that I did well.. people will start labelling him/her ..

"If someone says that I did well.. people will start labelling him/her"

three words may explain this behaviour of people labelling you- Disbelief Frustration Jealousy.

don't ruin your mood for such people, you did nothing wrong. kuch toh log kahenge logon ka kaam he kehna😂😂😊

GS1 main

Ab balak log vishvaas karte nahin toh main bata deta hun kaun se chhodde

1. Persian Literary sources 15 marks

2. Indian Phlio and tradition 15 marks

3. PALA period (10marker)

4.circumpacific zone (10 marker)

Yeh waale

Apologies it was 50 marks . I accept the error

I think leaving a few questions may actually have a positive impact. it may show you as honest person not messing up with questions you don't and also make evaluator's task easy . obviously not glorifying skipping questions but don't find it making any sense to attempt them if you are not prepared. devoting that time to other questions has always been my stand.

I think the thread will touch 100 pages today for sure...

Discussion has become pretty interesting with someone expecting 800+ marks..

We were sympathising each other for average performance.. now grilling someone for performing a bit above our expectations...

Keep it up folks...

@WaitingForResult2021 Bhai mera optional History tha maine toh attempt kiye the , 78 aaye XD

you wrote that paper in point or para

3.9k views

can anyone tell me whats a dkt?

its been in news for quite sometime now

ok on basis of my understanding on this issue, I think dkt probably points towards a person who claimed to have scored very very very good in upsc main. i have reason to believe that probably that person didn't score as well as they claimed. also I feel before results were declared, that person showed passion in claiming that his papers went well.

but this is just the way i tried to make sense of things the way i did of *MODERNISATION THESIS* in psir optional paper 2, the term I read first time in the paper yet chose to solve that 20 marker😂😂

He is DKT !! Read all the comments made by him there
Very interesting Guy tbh

Also See his reply to beavancom !!
They both were rage in 2019

sire, in the paper of gs1 last year that you scored 78, could you please let me know if you answered that paper in points of para, there's a very relevant reason for me asking this seemingly dull question

@WaitingForResult2021 Actually, he shared the first few digits here. Then, boys were aware he appeared in Delhi. So, it became easier for them. To confirm, he was using initial letters of his names like many of us do and name also matched.

those "boys" should be provided "lateral entry" to "special crime branch" asap 😂😂

I went through the gs 3 question paper again today and found that it was indeed difficult.. each question had multiple dimensions.. I now feel I could have added many additional points which is necessary for decent marking..

Scoring 100 in GS 3 won't be easy.. rest let the results come to see to what extent our predictions are correct..

Bro you are taking unnecessary and unwarranted stress. Too much worry will only cast into ruins your peace of mind . It's your last attempt I guess so there's no point of looking at main paper again as you won't be writing it ever again. So chill and plan for interview and future exams.

There is something interesting and noteworthy..

I estimated my marks around 800..

I was called DKT PART 2.. Overconfident and what not..

Someone here expecting around 840.. but all praises to him.. and no labelling like DKT part 3 or something..

Anyways.. world works like this.. so no complaints..

I'm also estimating my marks to be 800 (not actually 800 but general category equivalent vis a vis my category)

@Philip_Marlowe HISTORY optional main 280 ka daawa .
we will watch your career with great interest DKT3

history optional is the easiest subject of the world, I may ace it with 21% consciousness. psir is most difficult subject of the multiverse, you cannot capture it... even "Lucy" with her 100 percent consciousness couldn't do it. the reason is because of the "intrinsic creative intellect considerations" that dominate the scoring parameters especially in paper 2 of international relations. in subjects like history we answer same boring questions of past but in psir we essentially deal with "hyperdynamic fragments of fluid realities" that continue to alter the discourses, perceptions and aspects of continuity of life. It's this playing the games of time and attempting to design future predictions fusing past and present with logic and knowledge that requires in-depth talent. History can be aced with books PSIR requires not the books but you to think afresh and create new intellectual content. PSIR is god level subject, history at best, may be a spartan.
